Study on the Method to Create a Pedestrian Network and Path using Navigation Data for Vehicles (차량용 내비게이션 데이터를 이용한 보행 네트워크 및 경로 생성 기법)

  • In recent years, with increasing utilization of mobile devices such as smartphones, the need for PNS(Pedestrian Navigation Systems) that provide guidance for moving pedestrians is increasing. For the navigation services, road network is the most important component when it comes to creating route and guidance information. In particular, pedestrian network requires modeling methods for more detailed and vast space compared to road network. Therefore, more efficient method is needed to establish pedestrian network that was constructed by existing field survey and manual editing process. This research proposed a pedestrian network creation method appropriate for pedestrians, based on CNS(Car Navigation Systems) data that already has been broadly constructed. Pedestrian network was classified into pedestrian link(sidewalk, side street, walking facility) and openspace link depending on characteristics of walking space, and constructed by applying different methodologies in order to create path that similar to the movements of actual pedestrians. The proposed algorithm is expected to become an alternative for reducing the time and cost of pedestrian network creation.

Automatic Walking Guide for Visually Impaired People Utilizing an Object Recognition Technology (객체 인식 기술을 활용한 시각장애인 자동 보행 안내)

  • As city environments have recently become crowded, there are many obstacles that interfere with the walking of the visually impaired on pedestrian roads. Typical examples include ballads, parking breakers and standing signs, which usually do not get in the way, but blind people may be injured by collisions. To solve such a problem, many solutions have been proposed, but they are limited in applied in practical environments due to the several restrictions such as outside use only, inaccurate obstacle sensing and requirement of special devices. In this paper, we propose a new method to automatically detect obstacles while walking on the pedestrian roads and warn the collision risk in advance by using only sensors embedded in typical mobile phones. The proposed method supports the walking of the visually impaired by notifying the type of obstacles appearing in front of them as well as the distance remaining from the obstacles. To accomplish this goal, we utilized an object recognition technology applying the latest deep learning algorithms in order to identify the obstacles appeared in real-time videos. In addition, we also calculate the distance to the obstacles using the number of steps and the pedestrian's stride. Compared to the existing walking support technologies for the visually impaired, our proposed method ensures efficient and safe walking with only simple devices regardless of the places.

A Study of Pedestrian Navigation Service System for Visual Disabilities (시각장애인용 길안내 서비스 시스템에 대한 연구)

  • This paper is a study on the design and realization of Pedestrian navigation service system for the visually impaired. As it is an user interface considering visually impaired, voice recognition functioned smartphone was used as the input tool and the Osteoacusis headset, which can vocally guide directions while recognizing the surrounding environment sound, was used as the output tool. Unlike the pre-existing pedestrian navigation smartphone apps, the developed system guides walking direction by the scale of the left and right stereo sound of the headset wearing, and the voice guidance about the forked or curved path is given several meters before according to the speed of the user, and the user is immediately warned of walking opposite direction or proceeding off the path. The system can acquire stable and reliable directional information using the motion tracker with the dynamic heading accuracy of 1.5 degrees. In order to overcome GPS position error, we proposed a robust trajectory planning algorithm for position error. Experimental results for the developed system show that the average directional angle error is 6.82 degrees (standard deviation: 5.98) in the experimental path, which can be stated that it stably navigated the user relatively.

  • In some cases, despite the pedestrian jaywalking pedestrian traffic lights to red, or even wait for the walk signal to stand down in the driveway. If this is the case may be liable to lead to a traffic accident. Thus, using an infrared sensor wateuna adopted the approach that the warning announcement when a pedestrian enters the driveway, curved pedestrian crossing the intersection in this case, it is difficult to install. In this paper, we propose a Fitness referral system utilizes a built-in sensor of the Android mobile devices. For this purpose, the sensor is a proximity sensor using an acceleration sensor. The proximity sensor has a number of disadvantages compared to the high precision battery power, the acceleration sensor accuracy, fast response time, on the other hand, the disadvantage is the lower. Close to reduce battery consumption of the sensor, BMI of the user sensor control mechanism and increase the accuracy of the acceleration sensor (Body Mass Index) obtained after the index was applied to the recommendation algorithm, which like the movement mechanism.

  • In accordance to rapid aging of population, the accidents of elderly pedestrian and pedestrian safety are becoming very important issues. In terms of smartphone technologies, older people are increasingly looking for useful and friendly ICT services that which can add a value on their silver life. This paper introduced a new IT-based service for elderly walking assist using a smart-phone accompanied by a wearable watch. We describe the functional requirements and a systems architecture model with an interface between a smart-phone and wearable watch. Moreover, this study attempted to verify what services are needed and to estimate elderly pedestrians' WTP (willingness to pay) for IT-based walking assistance device. A total of 189 elderly pedestrians were randomly surveyed through face-to-face interviews. The questionnaire consisted of 3 categories: (1) questions pertaining to socio-economic status, (2) 12 questions regarding walking attitudes, and (3) a question to measure WTP. With this gathered data, factor analysis and path model estimating were conducted. The results identified the elderly user requirements and the use-value of new innovative products for IT-based walking assistance services by two groups(latent elderly and elderly). The modeling result shows that elderly's service preference would increase the possibilities for the commercialization of IT-based walking device with improving their walking safety.

  • The Context-Awareness technology which can provide the appropriate information to the human after estimating a lot of information exceeds the time and space in the ubiquitous environment is being developed now. GIS (Geographic Information System) and LBS (Location Based Services) based context awareness is one of these kinds of technology. The context awareness based transfer guide service which can provide useful information, according to the different information which was got from different sensors which were set in different places, to the pedestrian who is using the transfer center will be introduced in this paper. About the result of the service prototype which was tested in test-bed, the context awareness information such as the inside location and density calculation's accuracy is 90%, and the response time of the service is in 10 seconds, and also, the reliability will be higher if more advanced based infra will be used, so it is consider that it can be used to provide service enough.

  • 현재 대규모 실내공간이 증가하고 있고, 이에 따른 화재 등의 사고가 발생함에 따라 화재대피시스템과 같은 실시간 실내 응용에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 그러나 학문적 연구 또는 상업용 시스템에서 사용되는 화재모델이내 보행자 모델은 대부분 2D 기반의 CAD와 같은 파일구조를 기반으로 하고 있으며 가상데이터를 이용한 시뮬레이션에 초점을 두고 있다. 따라서 이들을 실내 센서 등을 이용한 실시간 시스템으로 구축하기 위해서는 몇 가지 문제점들이 해결되어야 한다. 우선, 실내공간의 의미 있는 관계정보를 포함하는 위상적인 3D 모델이 필요하다. 또한, 실내 센서들에 의해 감지된 보행자의 이동을 저장하고, 저장된 데이터를 이용하여 실시간 안내를 위해서는 실내데이터 구축에 공간 DBMS를 이용해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 실내보행자 모델에서 두 가지 개선점을 제시하고자 한다. 첫째는, 간단한 3D 실내 모델구축과 공간 DBMS와 연계된 보행자 시뮬레이터를 구현하는 과정을 제시한다. 둘째는, 보행자의 가시성(visibility)에 대한 영향이 반영된, 개선된 floor field 모델을 제안한다. 이와 같은 과정을 캠퍼스 건물에 적용하고 시뮬레이션을 수행하는 과정을 예시하였다.

Satisfaction Evaluation for the Pedestrian Improvement of Street Spaces - Focused on the Commercial and Residential Areas in the First District of Administrative-Centered City - (가로공간 보행증진을 위한 보행만족도 평가 - 행정중심복합도시 1지구 상업·주거지역을 대상으로 -)

  • A new urban paradigm that moves from a vehicle-centric to pedestrian-centric culture should be considered to improve the quality of the pedestrian environments for women, children, senior citizens, and disabled persons as well as to promote community unification by providing general movement rights to everyone. This study was implemented to provide decent alternatives to improve street spaces. The street spaces around the Commercial and Residential Area No.1 located in the Administrative-Centered City, Sejong Special Autonomic City, were selected to analyze and define the status of the walkways and the street spaces. Satellite imagery and numerical maps were used to collect geographic data. Practical and actual surveys for the selected sites were performed to analyze the street status and the pedestrian status. Based on the all collected data, analysis results, and literature reviews, the questionnaire was made, and 315 inquiries qualified for analysis. The physical status of all four study sites was the highest level, Grade A, and green open spaces were relatively sufficient. As a result, the factors obtained from the factor analysis have an impact on the satisfaction of the pedestrian streets in the commercial area. The factors are as followed Design > Convenience > Roadside trees and rest areas > Safety > Safety protective facilities > Transportation and information facilities > Continuity > Basic state of road surfaces > Comfortability, and in the residential area: Transportation and information facilities > Basic state of road surfaces > Comfort > Convenience > Continuity > Design > Illumination and crime prevention facilities > Safety > Roadside trees and rest areas.

  • 보행의 제한은 시각장애인의 자립적인 생활을 어렵게 하며 안전에도 큰 영향을 끼친다. 본 논문은 YOLOv5(You Only Look Once version 5)를 활용하여 안전한 보행을 돕는 방법을 제시한다. 제시하는 방법은 자동차나 자전거, 전동킥보드 등의 움직이는 사물과 사람을 실시간으로 인식하여 시각장애인에게 알림으로써 보행에 도움을 줄 수 있으며 시각장애인의 안전한 보행에 도움을 줄 것이라 기대한다.

  • As the world's elderly population increases, the proportion of visually impaired is also increasing, and there are still many restrictions on the use of outside activities, such as safety problems and lack of guidance information. To solve this problem, research on smart devices such as smart glasses with optical character recognition (OCR) function is being actively conducted. In this paper, we propose a system that recognizes obstacles ahead and informs information by voice, and also guides the way to the destination. Using the deep learning object recognition model Yolo, it let them to recognize the risk factors as obstacles such as stairs and Larva cones. and it also deliver the information with a voice. so you can expect that the visually impaired can do a lot of different activity even more now that system takes the visually impaired to the destination by using the directions API, voice recognition, TTS library.
