Analysis of the Pedestrian Space System for the Negligent Accident Prevention (안전사고예방을 위한 보행공간체계분석에 관한 연구)

  • Pedestrian environment not only affects the quantitative degree in pedestrian movement, but also an impact on the local economics and environment that speaks within the greater dialogue of the qualitative life in an urban context. Recent urban planning issues have matured from a linear street development to a conversion of pedestrian friendly streets that synchronizes the entire pedestrian movement structures as a whole. Subject cases, Myung-Dong and Kwanchul-Dong, were selected from time regulated pedestrian streets in Seoul. Analysis of these streets was done through field studies and interviews. From the research, the outcome was helpful in providing the developers a greater perspective with the pedestrian movement structure that is not confined to a certain parameter, but in a larger scale within the urban environment. It was also useful in justifying ambiguous locations of pedestrian-only streets and crosswalks. Also, It aided in planning optimal scheme that concurs with the predictable pedestrian movement.

Preference Analysis for the Pedestrian Space in Large-scale Residential Complex by Multi Dimensional Scaling -Focused on the Haeundae New town in Busan- (다차원 척도법을 이용한 대규모 주거단지 보행공간의 선호도 분석 -부산광역시 해운대 신시가지를 대상으로-)

  • We analyzed pedestrian preference and features of preferential space by MDS (Multi Dimensional Scaling). As the result, features of pedestrian space in dimension 1 could be interpreted as "Segregation of Pedestrian and Vehicle", and features of pedestrian space in dimension 2 could be read like "Natural-City". And as a result of vector analysis about preferential of pedestrian, a pedestrian mall between housing complex, pedestrian space in pocket park, pedestrian space in neighborhood park, and pedestrian space around public facilities was the best preferential space. On the other hand, pedestrians tended to dislike pedestrian space between detached.

  • 본 연구는 보행자 시설 중 계단과 대기공간에 대해 공학적으로 합리적인 분석방법을 제공하고 이를 통해 안전하고 편리한 보행시설의 제공을 도모하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 본 연구를 위해 계단과 대기공간에 대한 외국의 조사방법과 분석방법을 참조, 비교하여 서비스 수준 결정기준을 정하고 용량 값을 산출하여 우리나라 현실에 맞는 적정한 설계기준을 산출하기 위해 노력하였다. 계단의 경우 효과척도로 보행 교통량을 그리고 대기공간에 있어서는 1인당 점유면적을 사용하였다. 현장 조사 결과 계단에서의 보행량은 보행자가 군을 형성했을 경우와 그렇지 않은 경우 최대 보행량에 차이가 나는 것을 고려하여 보행자 군의 형성 여부에 따라 서비스 수준의 기준을 다르게 제시하였으며, 대기공간의 경우에는 1인당 점유면적을 한국인의 평균체형을 기준으로 하여 서비스 수준의 기준을 제시하였다. 계단과 대기공간에 있어서 이러한 조사와 분석을 통해 산출된 결과는 외국의 경우와 다른 값을 나타내는데, 계단에 있어서는 실질적으로 이용할 수 있는 유효계단 폭에 따라 최대 보행 교통량의 타이가 크게 나타났으며, 대기공간의 경우에는 한사람이 점유 할 수 있는 용량상태에서의 공간이 0.2$m^2$/인으로 외국의 경우보다 적게 나타난다.

  • 경제적인 풍요가 어느정도 이루어지면서 깨끗한 도시환경속에서 삶을 누리고자 하는 욕구도 증가되었다. 이를 반영하듯이 최근들어 환경에 대한 시민들의 관심이 어느때 보다 더욱 커져만 가고 있다. 이와 더불어 도시계획적 흐름도 물적계획에서 비물적계획인 인간중심 위주의 가치관으로 전환되고 있으며, 공원녹지체계의 정립, 도시경관관리방안, 자전거도로의 도입, 보행자도로의 계획과 설계, 대중교통의 활성화 등 많은 환경친화적 프로젝트들이 수행되어져 왔다. 본 연구에서도 기존의 주요 보행자공간으로 다루어져 온 보도공간에 대하여 조사연구하였으며, 도심의 외곽에 위치하고는 있지만 대구시의 남북을 관통하는 주요간선도로변에 접해 있고 보행량에 비해 보도가 지나치게 넓어 비효율적인 토지이용을 보이는 보도공간을 대상으로 하였다. 특히 도심의 외곽지 보도에 관한 연구는 통행량이 많은 도심지의 상업지나 주택지의 보도에 밀려 상대적으로 소홀히 다루어져 왔다. 이 가운데 대표성과 보편성을 가지는 곳으로 선정하여 연구를 수행한 결과 기존의 단순목적 보도공간을 4개의 공간 즉 보행자공간, 자전거도로공간, 차단 및 가로시설공간, 녹지 및 편익공간으로 재구성하였다. 이는 적은 비용과 노력으로 보행의 순기능인 쾌적성과 안전성을 보다 강화시켜나갈 수 있었다. 매연과 소음이 없고 도시민의 건강성를 확보한다는 이유로 여러 선진국에서는 수 년전부터 각광을 받고 있는 것이 보행교통과 자전거교통의 개념인 녹색교통이다. 이러한 녹색교통은 공해감소의 편익도 있지만 무엇보다 매력적인 도시환경의 창출과 인간중심적이라는 가치관에 그 의의가 있겠다.

  • Walking is one of human functions and has been the base of the development of human civilization. Walking ability had made the first village and urban pattern of the mankind. Cities had been constructed for pedestrian's convenience and happy life. But conventional cities have been crowded by the rapid increasing vehicles and population since material civilization had developed. On the other hand, pedestrian space has been neglected urban districts. Chose this study to suggest a direction for improvement by following the direction of the city characteristics and roadside pedestrian space. 1. Investigate the relationship and the significance and problems of pedestrian space by finding survey of the literature and discussion with those that affect the behavior of the pedestrian environment around. 2. For a comfortable pedestrian space on the improvement of the pedestrian area of space (physical and psychological) and gait characteristics, service levels and basic data. 3. Chose how to extract the most appropriate of the best alternatives presented several proposals based on the above survey of the literature data and field survey.

An Improved LOS Analysis Method for Pedestrian Walkways Using Pedestrian Space (보행 점유공간을 이용한 보행자도로 서비스수준 분석방법론 개선 연구)

  • This study describes an improved model for estimating pedestrian LOS (Level of Service) by utilizing the space occupied by pedestrians. The method introduced the concept of conflict along the bi-directional pedestrian flow which enables calculating conflict area and average travel time in walking. Especially, the method incorporates the idea of generalized density concept which can consider effective walking area and pedestrian flow rates that might vary during the analysis period. After establishing methodology, adjustments of pedestrian LOS criteria in term of walking space occupied by pedestrians were performed. As a result, walking-occupied space at capacity level is 0.68 and corresponding pedestrian flow rate was calculated as 80 persons/min/m, while different pedestrian-occupied spaces were ordered to classify LOS at the points where the gradient changes. Furthermore, the statistical verification of service levels has shown that there is significant difference among all LOS categories at 5% significance level.

  • Pedestrian facilities encompass pedestrian roads, stairs, and queuing areas exclusively designed for pedestrian use. The Korean Highway Capacity Manual provides guidelines for analyzing the capacity and level of service of pedestrian facilities. However, there is a lack of analysis methods tailored specifically for pedestrian facilities. Therefore, in this study, we introduced a new standard of pedestrian space to account for changes in the Korean body ellipse. Furthermore, based on this newly defined pedestrian space, we proposed a new standard value for the level of service of queuing areas. The results of on-site surveys confirmed that the proposed level of service can effectively reflect the actual walking situation.

Pedestrian Road at the Wall Space between Old Apartment Sites (공동주택단지 담장공간을 이용한 보행자도로 설치 가능성 연구)

  • Residential site should have pedestrian road passing through the center of the site just for convenience and safety. However, apartment complexes developed in the past, the sites are just stuck by walls and pedestrian roads are not placed, inhabitans have difficulties for facility use and safety. Therefore, residents solve the problems as follows: they utilize the spaces, between apartment building and the wall, as walking route, and demolish the parts of the wall for connecting sites. In this study, it was thought that pedestrian road could be emplaced at the wall space between sites. For this, a low-rise apartment complex in Gwangju was selected developed in 1990s, and whether the space for pedestrian road was examined. The width from 2.4m to 8.0m could be secured, and there could be placed the pedestrian road at the wall space. However, this study is limited for the possibility of securing space, for the opinion of residents that might be damaged from the pedestrian road did not reviewed.

Analysis of Spatio-Temporal Parameters of Gait in Elderly by Various Walking Pathways Width (보행경로 너비에 따른 노인의 시 · 공간적 보행 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in temporospatial variables in healthy elderly and healthy adults during usual walking, narrow base walking and centerline-guided walking. Twenty healthy elderly and nineteen healthy adults were participated in this study. In each conditions, the subjects were walked on a 6m walkway at comfortable self-selected speeds under three conditions : (1) usual walking, (2) walking within a 50% of the distance between the subject's ASIS (3) walking along a centerline. GAITRite system was used for kinematic analysis to assess the temporospatial variables. There were no significant changes in healthy adults(p>.05), but walking speed, cadence, H-H base support, functional ambulation performance were significantly decreased progressively as pathway narrowed in elderly adults(p<.05). The results show that elderly people had more difficulty with walking on narrow pathway for fear of falling. This study provides data for use in basic research into safe walking and preventing falling for elderly.

A Study on factors that make busy of Street space - Focused on a Comparison between the Pedestrian Mall of Korea and Japan - (가로공간의 번화함을 만드는 요소에 관한 연구 - 한국과 일본의 번화가 보행공간의 비교분석을 중심으로 -)

  • The study compares busy streets with the ones that are not and finds out what makes people think the street is busy. Based on this comparison and analysis, the study reflects on measures to make streets busy. First of all, busy streets are classified into three parts: shopping zone, business zone, and the combination of the two. The study analyzes whether the street is busy due to the certain system or structure of the street or it is busy due to certain design of the street, and the analysis is done in those three categories mentioned above. The research was carried out in busy streets with similar characteristics in both Korea and Japan. Physical factors that turn ordinary streets into busy ones are focused and analyzed. The visual perception is analyzed. As a result, similarity and difference between designs of physical factors of streets in both countries are discovered. Ideal arrangement and design of physical factors that contribute to the making of busy streets are also found. Based on these data, design that makes busy streets with different characteristics is presented here.
