Device Authentication Protocol for LR-WPAN using Pre-Authentication Mechanism (LR-WPAN에서 사전인증기법을 이용한 기기 인증 프로토콜)

  • This paper proposes a new authentication protocol for the LR-WPAN. In order to guarantee the reliability and safety of a protocol, this protocol uses the hierarchical authentication approach. In addition, in order to reduce the impact of the denial of service attack, the proposed protocol performs the authentication between a parent router and a joiner device prior to the authentication between a trust center and the joiner device. Moreover, this protocol reduces the authentication delay by decreasing the number of message exchanges during authentication procedure. This paper evaluates the safety of the proposed protocol by the security analysis and reliability of the proposed protocol by the GNY analysis. This paper also compares the number of message exchanges of the ZigBee authentication protocol and the proposed protocol when denial of service attack occurs to evaluate the resistance of the proposed protocol against the denial of service attack. We also analyze the delay for authentication of the joiner device through the implementation of both protocols. Those results show that the proposed protocol effectively protects networks from the denial of service attack and reduces the time for authenticating the joiner device up to maximum 30% as the number of hops increases.

A Scheme for Secure Storage and Retrieval of (ID, Password) Pairs Using Smart Cards as Secure and Portable Storages (안전한 휴대 저장장치로서의 스마트카드를 활용한 (ID, 패스워드) 쌍들의 안전한 저장 및 검색 기법)

  • Despite the security weakness of reusing passwords, many Internet users are likely to use a single ID and password on various sites to avoid the inconvenience of remembering multiple credentials. This paper proposes a scheme for securely storing, retrieving, and updating randomly chosen (ID, password) pairs by using smart cards as secure and portable storages. The scheme makes a user free from remembering her (ID, password) pairs for Internet accesses. By splitting and scattering the (ID, password) pairs of a user across the user's smart card memory and a remote server's storage, it can protect the logon credentials even from the theft or loss of the smart card. Also, a user, if deemed necessary, can issue and let the server to delete all information belonging to the user. Hence even an attacker who cracked the smart card memory would not be able to obtain any (ID, password) pair of the victim thereafter. The scheme requires a user to input a site information and pass-phrase to her smart card to obtain the logon credentials, but it should be an acceptable overhead considering the benefits of not remembering the freely chosen (ID, password) pairs at all.

  • The development of public-key-based technique that enables a variety of services(E-government, e-banking, e-payment, etc.) evaluated as having complete safety. On the other hand, vulnerabilities(e.g, heartbleed bug, etc.) are constantly being discovered. In this paper, a public key infrastructure to verify the safety and reliability, the collision rate using OpenSSL key pair was analyzed. the experiment was performed using the following procedure. Openssl was used to create five private certification agencies, and each of the private certificate authority certificates to create 2 million, generating a total of 10 million by the certificate of the key pair conflicts analysis. The results revealed 35,000 in 1 million, 0.35% chance of a public key, a private key conflict occurred. This is sufficient in various fields(E-payment, Security Server, etc.). A future public-key-based technique to remove the threat of a random number generator, large minority issues, in-depth study of selection will be needed.

  • Currently there are wide variety of web services and applications available for users. Such services restrict access to only authorized users, and therefore its users often need to go through the inconvenience of getting an authentication from each service every time. To resolve of such inconvenience, a third party application with OAuth(Open Authorization) protocol that can provide restricted access to different web services has appeared. OAuth protocol provides applicable and flexible services to its users, but is exposed to reply attack, phishing attack, impersonation attack. Therefore we propose method that after authentication Access Token can be issued by using the E-mail authentication. In proposed method, regular user authentication success rate is high when value is 5 minutes. However, in the case of the attacker, the probability which can be gotten certificated is not more than the user contrast 0.3% within 5 minutes.

  • The IoT technology is a field that applies and converges the technologies in the existing industrial environment, instead of new technologies. The IoT technology is releasing various application services converged with other industries such as smart home, healthcare, construction, and automobile, and it is also possible to secure the work efficiency and convenience of users of IoT-based technologies. However, the security threats occurring in the IoT-based technology environment are succeeding to the vulnerability of the existing wireless network environment. And the occurrence of new and variant attacks in the combination with the ICT convergence environment, is causing damages. Thus, in the IoT technology-based environment, it would be necessary to have researches on the safe transmission of messages in the communication environment between user and device, and device and device. This thesis aims to design a safe communication protocol in the IoT-based technology environment. Regarding the suggested communication protocol, this thesis performed the safety analysis on the attack techniques occurring in the IoT technology-based environment. And through the performance evaluation of the existing PKI-based certificate issuance system and the suggested communication protocol, this thesis verified the high efficiency(about 23%) of communication procedure. Also, this thesis verified the reduced figure(about 65%) of the issued quantity of certificate compared to the existing issuance system and the certificate management technique.

  • Wi-Fi is a rapidly spreading communications network with Smart phone's publication, the technology has become Ubiquitous-based core network which is connected to personal computers, laptops, and tablet PC. Wi-Fi can send currently a variety of data standard due to developed wireless LAN communications network. One of Wi-Fi standard protocols, which is IEEE 802.11n, use 2.4GHz and 5GHz band. 2.4GHz band is used for 802.11b/g protocol because wavelength is long, diffraction and receiving distance is enough to connect other device. 5GHz band has more available channels to use than 2.4GHz band, so there is no frequency interference of other wireless device such as Bluetooth, RFID. Moreover, there is low interference between channels due to small users in each bandwidth level. In the thesis, we are going to analyze 802.11a/b/g protocol which has used since the beginning of Wi-Fi protocol and 802.11n protocol which is used lately. Furthermore, we look into development and direction for standardization of the next generation wireless LANs which are 802.11ac and 802.11ad. In addition, we will consider for the security, vulnerabilities and its countermeasure in Wireless LAN.

A Study on the Factors Affecting User Behavior of Internet Medical Apps (인터넷 의료 애플리케이션 사용 행위에 영향을 미치는 요소에 관한 연구)

  • Due to the recent economic development and the improvement of income level in China, the desire for quality medical services is increasing compared to the past. As an alternative to satisfy these needs, various applications using smart phones and the like are being developed. The new corona that occurred in December 2019 began to show great interest in non-face-to-face telemedicine services using smart phones due to the worldwide spread of the coronavirus. Therefore, in this study, a total of 200 people were surveyed on the top three mobile medical applications in China, and the data of 120 people who actually used medical applications were analyzed based on Venkatesh's UTAUT2 theory. A study was conducted on the intent to use and the factors affecting the in-law behavior. First, it has become clear that the interactive characteristics, expectations for effort, price value, interest in privacy, habits, and promotional conditions have a positive impact on the user's use. Second, it was investigated that the user's intention to use influences the behavior of use, and among the intentions of use, it was found that the mobilization characteristic expectation, hedonistic motivation, price value, habits, and promotion conditions affect the use behavior. Third, a study result was derived that the controlling variables such as gender, age, school age, and annual income do not affect the user's intention to use mobile medical applications as a controlling variable. Finally, due to the nature of mobile devices that use the Internet, various security vulnerabilities exist, and this can cause great damage or personal and social impact. Therefore, for the development of mobile medical services in China, it is necessary to re-establish a research model through comprehensive and in-depth considerations to supplement these problems in the future.

Static Identification of Firmware Linux Kernel Version by using Symbol Table (심볼 테이블을 이용한 펌웨어 리눅스 커널 버전 정적 식별 기법)

  • When acquiring a product having an OS, it is very important to identify the exact kernel version of the OS. This is because the product's administrator needs to keep checking whether a new vulnerability is found in the kernel version. Also, if there is an acquisition requirement for exclusion or inclusion of a specific kernel version, the kernel identification becomes critical to the acquisition decision. In the case of the Linux kernel used in various equipment, sometimes it becomes difficult to pinpoint the device's exact version. The reason is that many manufacturers often modify the kernel to produce their own firmware optimized for their device. Furthermore, if a kernel patch is applied to the modified kernel, it will be very different from its base kernel. Therefore, it is hard to identify the Linux kernel accurately by simple methods such as a specific file existence test. In this paper, we propose a static method to classify a specific kernel version by analyzing function names stored in the symbol table. In an experiment with 100 Linux devices, we correctly identified the Linux kernel version with 99% accuracy.

Performance Analysis of DoS/DDoS Attack Detection Algorithms using Different False Alarm Rates (False Alarm Rate 변화에 따른 DoS/DDoS 탐지 알고리즘의 성능 분석)

  • Internet was designed for network scalability and best-effort service which makes all hosts connected to Internet to be vulnerable against attack. Many papers have been proposed about attack detection algorithms against the attack using IP spoofing and DoS/DDoS attack. Purpose of DoS/DDoS attack is achieved in short period after the attack begins. Therefore, DoS/DDoS attack should be detected as soon as possible. Attack detection algorithms using false alarm rates consist of the false negative rate and the false positive rate. Moreover, they are important metrics to evaluate the attack detections. In this paper, we analyze the performance of the attack detection algorithms using the impact of false negative rate and false positive rate variation to the normal traffic and the attack traffic by simulations. As the result of this, we find that the number of passed attack packets is in the proportion to the false negative rate and the number of passed normal packets is in the inverse proportion to the false positive rate. We also analyze the limits of attack detection due to the relation between the false negative rate and the false positive rate. Finally, we propose a solution to minimize the limits of attack detection algorithms by defining the network state using the ratio between the number of packets classified as attack packets and the number of packets classified as normal packets. We find the performance of attack detection algorithm is improved by passing the packets classified as attacks.

Control Method for the Number of Travel Hops for the ACK Packets in Selective Forwarding Detection Scheme (선택적 전달 공격 탐지기법에서의 인증 메시지 전달 홉 수 제어기법)

  • A wireless sensor network which is deployed in hostile environment can be easily compromised by attackers. The selective forwarding attack can jam the packet or drop a sensitive packet such as the movement of the enemy on data flow path through the compromised node. Xiao, Yu and Gao proposed the checkpoint-based multi-hop acknowledgement scheme(CHEMAS). In CHEMAS, each path node enable to be the checkpoint node according to the pre-defined probability and then can detect the area where the selective forwarding attacks is generated through the checkpoint nodes. In this scheme, the number of hops is very important because this parameter may trade off between energy conservation and detection capacity. In this paper, we used the fuzzy rule system to determine adaptive threshold value which is the number of hops for the ACK packets. In every period, the base station determines threshold value while using fuzzy logic. The energy level, the number of compromised node, and the distance to each node from base station are used to determine threshold value in fuzzy logic.
