Seed Development and Germinability of Unripened Seed in Peanuts (땅콩 종실의 발육과 미숙종자의 발아력)

  • Pods and kernels of two peanut(Arachis hypogaea L.) cultivars, a Shinpung type, Shindaekwangtangkong and a Virginia bunch type, Namdaetangkong were harvested periodically after the gynophore earthing in the field condition and their developments were monitored by observation of the changes in size, weight and moisture content. Seed germinability and seedling vigor were tested to set up a method for hastening the generation advancement in breeding procedure. Pods and kernels reached the maximum in size at 30 to 40 days after gynophore earthing and at that time the kernels had one hundred percent germinability and the seedlings sprouted from those kernels exhibited practically acceptable viability enough to grow for the next generation.

  • (주)테크팩솔루션은 50년대 국내 최초로 유리병 산업에 진출한 이래 지금까지 국내 유리병 산업을 선도해 오고 있다. PET, 알루미늄 캔 등 액체제품 포장관련 해서는 명실공이 국내 최고로 인정받고 있는 종합포장재 회사인 것. 이런 (주)테크팩솔루션의 발전에는 경기도 이천 대월면에 위치한 이천공장의 역할이 컸다. 이곳은 1980년에 국내 최초로 알루미늄 투피스캔(two-piece con)을 생산하기 시작한 곳으로, 현재는 이를 통해 연간 600~700억원의 매출을 올리고 있다. 즉 (주)테크팩솔루션의 주력이다. 이처럼 이천공장이 우수한 성과를 내고 있는 비결이 무엇일까? 이에 대해 이곳 관계자들은 '안전'을 그 이유로 꼽는다. 철저한 안전관리로 재해가 없으니 기계가 멈출 일이 없고, 근로자의 공백이 생기는 일도 없다는 게 그 이유다. 다실 말해 안전성을 바탕으로 사업장이 흔들림 없이 꾸준한 성장을 거듭해 올 수 있었다는 것이다. 실로 이곳 안전관리자의 실력에 찬사가 나올만한 대목이다. 안전으로 회사의 매출증대까지 일궈내게 만든 (주)테크팩솔루션 이천공장의 김문선 차장을 만나 이야기를 나눠봤다.

Occurrance of Peanut Web Blotch Caused by Phoma arachidicola Marasas, in Korea (Phoma arachidicola Marasas 에 의한 땅콩 그물무늬병의 발생)

  • Since it was firstly identified in Suweon during the growing season in 1986, this fungus of peanut web blotch, Phoma arachidicola, has been widely distributed to the major peanut growing areas throughout the whole country. Disease symptoms appeared on the adaxial surface of peanut like ink drop lesion with net form, and finally turned to dark brown blotch. The fungus isolated was revealed to form dark brown colonies on PD agar at $28^{\circ}C$, resulting 4.5 mm mycelial extension per day. Hyaline conidia were observed to be either aseptate or single septeted, and sized with the ellipsoidal to cylindrical shape $3.0{\times}14.5\;{\mu}m$. The optimum temperature was ranged 24 to $26^{\circ}$ in the grwoth. Virginia type peanut was more resistant to the fungus than Spainish type in the field reaction.

Soil Transmission of Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus and Its Control Mensures in Watermelon (수박에 오이녹반모자이크바이러스의 토양전염과 예방대책)

  • Soil transmission ratio of Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV) was 0.2 to 3.5 % in watermelon growing fields naturally infested with the virus. Biological activities of CGMMV lost after 17 months in moist well-aerated soil but still continued more than 33 months in waterlogged soil. To inhibit the virus infection through soil, the roots of watermelon seedlings were soaked in 10% solution of skim milk prior to transplanting. The seedlings treated with skim milk solution were not infected, while 5.0 to 7.6% out of control seedlings were infected. The roots treated with skim milk were coated with membrane around the roots under scanning electron microscope.

  • Recent occurrence of virus diseases on watermelon plants cultivated in Jeonnam province was investigated from 1998 to 2002. While virus diseases were severely occurred on watermelon cultivated in green house in 1998, those of open field were severer than in green house since 2000. When 128 samples collected from different fields were examined by electron microscopy, 87.8% of the samples contained rod-shaped or filamentous virus particles. RT-PCR analysis of the samples revealed that Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV) was only detected from collected samples at May. Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV) was most frequently found and CGMMV and Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) were slightly at June and July. However Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and Papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) have not been detected.

  • The SS (Bacillus subtilis 10%), WS (Microbial extract 70%), and DS (Sulfur 78%) agents were selected by mycelial growth inhibitory effect test against kiwifruit soft rot pathogen (B. dothidea) with 11 kinds of environment-friendly agricultural materials on PDA medium for 10 days. They showed at 94.2%, 65.2%, 58.9%, respectively. The control value of WS and SS agents were better than DS in storage experiment. It was effective SS and WS single application, DS-WS and WS-SS alternate application in the field trial.

Effect of Chemical Treatment on the Control of Strawberry Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum sp. (딸기탄저병의 약제방제효과)

  • A total of 55 Colletotrichum isolates from strawberry plants with anthracnose symptoms(crown rot) were inhibited in mycelial growth on potato-dextrose agar(PDA) amended with fungicides in variable degrees depending on the chemicals used, especially showing no growth on PDA with 1 mg/m/tricyclazole. However, in the detached leaf test by treating chemicals before or after inoculation of Colletotrichum sp., tricyclazole was little effective in controlling symptom development; instead azoxystrobin, which had low in vitro inhibition of mycelial growth, inhibited strongly the symptom development. Some chemicals were tested for the control of strawberry crown rot in greenhouse using three methods, sprays soil drenching and plant dipping. No or little control effect were made by chemical spray and soil drenching, but plant dipping in chemical solution, especially azoxystrobin: reduced crown rot development by about 50% in the greenhouse suggesting that the azoxystrobin treatment may be an effective control method of the crown rot of strawberry. No differences in the control efficacy were noted according to the dipping time and chemical concentration of azoxystrobin not less than 10 min and 250 mg/m/, respectively.

Simple Method to Discriminate the Fungicide Resistant Botrytis cinerea Strain in Tomatoes (토마토 잿빛곰팡이병균 약제저항성 간이 판별법)

  • Grey mold infection rate in tomato was investigated with the inoculation of dead flowers on Botrytis selective media. The grey mold infection rate of flower after fruiting were higher in the order of after 45 days, after 25 days, and fruiting day with 100%, 87% and 65%, respectively. The number of infected flowers were increased with time increase after the flowering before fruiting. BSM (Botrytis selective medium) was used to check grey mold infection rate depending on the flowering stage and cultivar. Grey mold infection rate depending on the flowering stage was similar in all the beef-tomato cultivar as 1.5~5% at preflowering, 1.5~45% at flowering and 75~90% at fruiting. On the other hand, cherry tomato cultivar "KoKo" had lower infection rates of 0~3.5% at pre-flowering, 10~30% at flowering and 20~50% at fruiting. These resulted from the fact that beaf-tomato cultivar have much bigger flowers and larger amount of pollens compared to those of cherry tomato cultivar. The amounts of falling pollens of Botrytis spp. were checked for beaf-tomato cultivar and cherry tomato cultivar using BSTM. The amounts of falling pollens were increased as growth period was extended, and the amount of spores increased rapidly during the outbreak of grey mold. Twelve field trials in Buyeo and Iksan areas showed that Fluazinam, and Diethofencarb+Carbendazim were effective fungicides to control tomato grey mold, and these results were similar to those of field trials with BSTM. This is the first report of Fluazinam as a effective fungicide for the control of grey mold of tomato even though it has not been registered yet for the control of gray mold in tomato.

Estimating Traffic Accident Reduction Effect of Road Safety Facilities in Intersesctions (교차로에서의 도로·교통안전시설물의 교통사고 감소효과도 추정)

  • Accident Black Spot Improvement Project is the representative road safety intervention to eliminate environmental risk factors on the roadway by installing road safety facilities. Although it is one of the main road safety projects in Korea, there has been a lack of effort analyzing the traffic accident reduction effects of this project. In this study, therefore, we selected 4,171 road black spots from 2004 to 2013 and investigated the traffic accident reduction effects of 5 road safety facilities by using "Comparison Group(C-G)" method. Through the analysis, it was found that the number of traffic accidents were lowered by 4.45% with traffic islands, 32.17% with road paved markers, and 24.13% with speed cameras, respectively. However, 0.61% with pedestrian fencing and 1.67% with skid resistant pavement were increased on the other hand. In addition, we also analyzed traffic accident reduction facilities' performance on specific types of collision mentioned in manual on road safety facilities by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. It was shown that the number of bad weather traffic accidents were reduced by 52.96% with road paved markers, pedestrians accidents were reduced by 62.77% with pedestrian fencing and rear-end collisions were reduced by 26.00% with skid resistant pavement.
