Entomopathogenic nematodes were isolated through the investigation of soil samples from various biotopes in south Korea, the efficiency of isolation for highly pathogenic nematodes to silkworms (Bombyx mori) was as high as 28 %. Twenty-eight strains of nematodes, selected among 100 samples by silkworms were confirmed the pathogenicity, multiplicity, and tolerance against various condition of preservation. Pathogenicity of the nematode isolates to agricultural and environmental pests such as Calliphora vomitoria, Pseufaletia separata, Palomena angulosa, and Melolontha incana were high. Mortality was varied from 20 to 100% by the pest insects and nematode strains. The high detectablity of entomopathogenic nematodes resulted from the methods of collection for soil samples within 10 cm depth after eliminating dried soil surface and the use of silkworm trap. High population of entomopathogenic nematodes represented the strong activity and broad action radius in the environment. Most of the nematode isolates were successfully cultured on the silkworm host as well as on artificial media, and proved their potential for the use of biological control agent.

Purpose: This study was aimed to identify the influencing factors on the COVID-19 infection prevention behavior of adults residing in Gyeongsangnam-do by examining relationships between anxiety, health belief and COVID-19 infection prevention behavior. Methods: The participants of this study were recruited from a website, and the total number of participants was 186. The self-report questionnaires were distributed during July 2020. Results: Multiple regression analysis revealed the significant factors affecting the COVID-19 infection prevention behavior of adult residing in Gyeongsangnam-do were perceived barriers(=-3.68, p<.001), perceived benefits(=3.39, p=.001), perceived susceptibility(=2.83, p=.005), sex(=2.59, p=.010). The total explanatory power of the study variables for COVID-19 infection prevention behavior was 35.0%(F=17.61, p<.001). Conclusions: Based on these findings, in order to promote COVID-19 infection prevention behavior, there is needed to reduce obstacles for carrying out infection prevention behaviors, and develop multi-faceted promotional strategies for infection prevention behaviors.
Dental environments are easily exposed to hospital microorganisms, so the risk of infection among workers is very high. Hand washing is one of the most important and basic way to reduce the risk of infection, as hands are an important medium of infection. Therefore, a convergence study was conducted between hand washing and health belief in orthodontic clinic. Analysis of differences between hand washing and health beliefs showed a significant relationship between importance of hand washing and experience in hand washing education (p=0.010) (p=0.000). Analysis of factors affecting health beliefs showed that the importance of hand washing control (p=0.014) and hands washing education experience (p=0.010) were significantly influencing factors. Infections management education is believed to be highly relevant in establishing a health when increasing interest in dental infections is expected to increase the importance of hand washing, a basic method.
This study was conducted to evaluate the methods used in nursing procedures for infection control. Skilled nursing procedures are related to prevention of hospital infection. The sample consisted of 301 nurses’ response to the questionnaire. Data were collected from Feb. to March, 1993 from 35 hospitals located in five major cities. The findings of the study are as follows : 1) Rotatively unsafe nursing procedures were reported for preperation of IV therapy, change of IV site and aseptic dressing on IV site, hand wash-ing and use of paper towels, use of sterile urine bottle with indwelling urinary catheter, management of dressing cart, disinfection of transfer forcep, ambu respirator, laryngoscope, humidifier and handling of incubator. 2) Relatively safe nursing procedures were reported for management of suction tube, marking for contaminated materials and waste collection. The rate of participation in education programs for infection control by the nurses was higher than in other research results. 3) Further study on procedures for IV site in-fusion and care of dressing cart are recommended.
Purpose: This study tested the effectiveness of brochure- and video-based education on managing surgical site infections by operating room health personnel. Methods: From April 20 to May 4, 2021, 34 operating room health personnel were subjected to training on surgical site infection management using brochures and educational videos. A survey was then conducted on knowledge, perception, and adherence regarding surgical site infection management. Results: After receiving training on surgical site infection management, the knowledge score increased significantly (15.15±2.09 vs.19.70±1.96, p<.001). However, the perception and adherence scores were already near perfect before the intervention and did not further increase after the intervention. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop and utilize continuous and substantive educational programs to improve perception and adherence of surgical site infection management.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge, attitude, infection management intention and educational needs among nurses with no experience of new respiratory infectious diseases (NRID: SARS and MERS). Data were collected from 162 nurses working at the general hospitals in B city using structured questionnaires from October 10 to 31, 2017. The infection management intention of NRID was high in those who were over 30 years old, married, highly educated, and had a total working experience of more than 5 years. Nurses' infection management intention for NRID showed a positive correlation between knowledge of NRID (r=.27, p<.001) and attitude toward NRID (r=.65, p<.001). In other words, the higher the knowledge score for NRID, the more positive the attitude and the higher the infection management intention. In addition, the knowledge score related to incubation period, treatment, isolation, and release criteria was low while the educational needs were high. Therefore, in preparation for the possibility of NRID relapse and other NRID in the future, a systematic program addressing these educational needs for nurses should be periodically implemented to enhance infection management.
The global outbreak of COVID-19 has underscored the pressing need for robust infection control practices in pulmonary function laboratories (PFL). However, the existing guidelines and regulatory frameworks provided by relevant authorities in the country have revealed certain deficiencies in effectively addressing this significant public health crisis. This study surveyed the infection control regulations, disposable item usage, ventilation facilities, spatial separation, and the configuration of entrance doors in 51 domestic hospital facilities from Oct 1, 2021, to Nov 2, 2021. The survey findings revealed that while there was a relatively satisfactory adherence to airborne, droplet, and contact precautions with adequate awareness and utilization of personal protective equipment, the environmental disinfection practices exhibited a suboptimal performance rate of 39.22% per patient. Depending on the specific survey domains, substantial variations were observed in the utilization of disposable items (81.05%), ventilation systems (45.75%), dedicated testing spaces (80.39%), separation of administrative areas (15.69%), and the installation of automated doors (19.61%). This study not only highlights the paramount importance of infection control in PFLs within domestic medical institutions but also provides foundational data for developing and enhancing standardized guidelines that align with international benchmarks for infection control in these settings.

This study was conducted to identify factors influencing turnover intention of nurses that were cohort quarantined during the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome(MERS) outbreak. Subjects of this study were 267 nurses from three hospitals that came in direct or indirect contact with diagnosed MERS and suspected MERS patients and were group quarantined during the 2015 MERS breakout. The data were collected from October 1, 2015 through November 30, 2015. The collected data were evaluated based on descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA and multivariate regression conducted using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. The factors influencing turnover intention were work experience and usual stress levels. While nurses tending to MERS patients had the highest stress levels (p<.001), different types of patient care during the MERS outbreak did not yield to a statistically significant turnover intention. Theresults of this study indicate that work experience and usual stress levels impact turnover intention of nurses and because the stress resulting from the MERS outbreak did not significantly affect the turnover intention, further human resource management is required to reduce the usual stress levels of nurses.

This study aims to assess how effective environmental management can be accomplished through monitoring of environmental conditions in patient discharge rooms within healthcare facilities through direct observation and the use of fluorescent markers. From March to July 2013, this study evaluated 448 check-out beds in wards and intensive care units before and 494 after intensive environmental monitoring activities. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 program. According to the study's findings, direct observation increased from 95.2% prior to the implementation of intensive environmental monitoring activities to 98.9% following the implementation, which was statistically significant. The non-detection rate of fluorescent markers exhibited an increase from 96.1% prior to the commencement of intensive environmental monitoring activities to 98.0% following their implementation. However, it should be noted that this observed increase was not deemed statistically significant. In light of the results of this research, it is imperative to evaluate the effectiveness of environmental management by employing a variety of assessment methods, including direct observation and fluorescent markers.
