This paper studies the applicability of the method of caustics into anisotropic materials under mode I and mixed static loading conditions and introduces the procedure to obtain stress intensity factors(S.I.F.) in anisotropic materials by the method of caustics. The mapping equations for initial and caustic curves in anisotropic materials were introduced and their computer graphical images were compared to the experimental ones to check the validity of the mapping equations proposed in this paper. The agreement between them was found to satisfactory. Two kinds of method to determine S.I.F. in anisotropic materials by the method of caustics were proposed in this paper and applied into the orthotropic materials under various loading conditions. In the case of mode I loading condition, the S.I.F.'s obtained by this paper's methods were found to be quite similar to the results by other method, boundary element method(B.E.M) and in the case of mixed loading condtion, the S.I.F's by this paper and B.E.M. showed a little differences(2.2-24.4%) with respect to the slanted angle of crack.

Before cables are constructed, tower of suspension bridge is behaved as a cantilever type. Buffeting occured by unsteady loading of the tower due to velocity fluctuation in the oncoming flow has a wind velocity consistent with fundamental frequency of the tower and may give rise to large response by the tower resonance. To reduce the dynamic response by buffeting, the behavior of tower with TMD(Tuned Mass Damper) has studied using finite element method in time domain. The buffeting was obtained by transforming the velocity spectrum in frequency domain to random variable in certain time domain. The most probable maximum displacement which can be occured during the time interval was obtained using peak factor. The optimum location for TMD installation and TMD specification were decided by parametric study. Also, the effect of vibration control about various wind velocity was studied by the TMD which has optimum specification and location.

In this paper, the fluid-structure interaction of large floating structures has been rigorously analyzed and the shear effect on the structural deformation has been investigated in oblique waves. A constant panel method(CPM) based on the Green function method is implemented for computing the hydrodynamic pressure, while a finite element method(FEM) is applied for the structural response based on the Mindlin plate theory with including shear deformation. In order to validate the method, we compared numerical results with experimental ones of Mega Float carried out by Yago & Endo in head waves. General behavior shows good agreement but the local displacement at the ends is slightly different. The numerical results show that the radiation pressure due to the fluid-structure interaction is locally larger than that of wave excitation and mooring devices greatly reduce the response. It is observed that the shear effects among the total deformation constitutes about 4% in the case of Mega Float in oblique waves.
Current trends in steel construction include using tapered, non-compact sections to minimize the use of excess material as much as possible by choosing the cross-sections instead of the classical approach of using prismatic members. In addition, snug conditions, especially the end-plate type, have the advantage of incurring less construction costs and shorter assembly times as opposed to full pre-tensioned conditions. On the other hand, it is important to predict the collapse of the PEB system due to over-loading. Large-scale tests of tapered steel portal frames with non-compact sections were conducted. The primary test parameters included the bolt connection method and the loading condition (vertical and horizontal load). The test results on initial stiffness and load capacity were investigated. Furthermore, comparisons between the analytical and experimental data for load-displacement curves were initiated. In addition, we evaluated the applicability of a snug bolt for the PEB frame in the field.
A finite element formulation based on the CFT(Compression Field Theory), considering the effect of compression softening in cracked concrete, and macro-scopic and rotating crack models etc., was presented for the nonlinear behaviour of structural concrete. Considering the computational efficency and the ability of modelling the post-ultimate behaviour as major concerns, the Incremental displacement solution algorithm involving initial material stiffnesses and the relaxation procedure for fast convergence was adopted and formulated in a type of 8-noded quadrilateral isoparametric elements. The analysis program NASCOM(Non1inear Analysis of Structural Concrete by FEM : Monotonic Loading) developed in this way enables the predictions of strength and deformation capacities in a full range, crack patterns and their corresponding widths, and yield extents of reinforcement. As the verification purpose of NASCOM, the predictions were made for Bhide's Panel(PB21) and Leonhardt's deep beam tests. The predicted results shows somewhat stiff behaviour for the panel test, and vice versa for deep beam tests. More refining process would be necessary hereafter in terms of more accurately simulating the effects of tension-stiffening and compression softening in concrete.

In this paper, we studied on dual reflector adjusted to monopulse antenna system. As a result, when the efficiency of main reflector is more than 70%, The size of reflector is 30 wavelength of maximum frequency and minimum frequency gain is 37.9dBi, and Maximum frequency gain is 38.6dBi. Also, when a radius is D and Focus-distance is $F_e$, a scheme for efficiency improvement of Sub Reflector is to increase the Focus-distance to Diameter Ratio. In this case, Cross polarization in Far field improved and spherical spreading loss in circumference of reflector reduced. The influence of Radiation pattern followed by the side displacement of feed antenna(at $x_sy_s$) is decreased, it is confirmed that performance of scanning is improved.

This paper presents the geotechnical characteristics of the soil mixed with various waste(waste soil) in the landfill. The physical and mechanical tests were conducted to find out the waste soil. The tests include the gradation, consistency tests, shear and compression and the consolidation tests using both the Rowe cell and the constant ration stress. The analyses of the test results show the waste soil belongs to the well graded sand(SW) in the laboratory and sand-gravel(SG) to fine sand(SF) in the field monitoring based on the unified classification soil system. The shear strength is increasing with increasing the shear displacement, however, the peak of the shear strength does not appear through the test and there is no distinct peak value of the strength obtained. The compression index(Cc) results in as increasing the amount of the sludge included and the compression index is proportional to the sludge included, which means more settlement is expected. The hydraulic conductivity of the waste soil ranges between $1.6{\times}10^{-5}cm/sec$ and $1.8{\times}10^{-7}cm/sec$.

Because of the high specific stiffness and strength inherent in the sandwich structure composed of facesheet that resists in-plane loads and a core that resists out-of-plane loads, it is often used for large and light-weighted structures. However, inevitably the increased flexibility allows greater deformation-based disturbances in the structures. Thus, it is necessary to analyze the structural safety. To obtain more accurate analytical results, the input disturbances must more closely simulate real load conditions; to improve accuracy, non-linear elements such as gust effects were considered. In addition, the structural safety was analyzed for the iso-grid sandwich panel structure using fluid-structure interactions. For a more realistic simulation, flow velocity fields, which consider the effects of irregular gust fluctuation, were generated and the coupled field was analyzed by mapping the pressure and displacement.

Cellulose Electro-Active Paper (EAPap) is attractive as a biomimetic actuator because of its merits: it is lightweight, operates in dry conditions, has a large displacement output, has a low actuation voltage, and has low power consumption. Cellulose is regenerated so as to align its microfibrils, which results in a piezoelectric paper. When chemically bonded and mixed with carbon nanotubes, titanium oxide, zinc oxide, tin oxides, the cellulose EAPap can be used as a hybrid nanocomposite that has versatile properties and that can meet the requirements of many application devices. This paper presents trends in recent research on the cellulose EAPap, mainly on material preparation and its use in devices, including biosensors, chemical sensors, flexible transistors, and actuators. This paper also explains wirelessly driving technology for the cellulose EAPap, which is attractive for use in biomimetic robotics and micro-aerial vehicles.
