Properties Evaluation of Thermochromic Gel Compounds for Detecting Overheating (과열감지용 열변색 겔성형체의 특성 평가)

  • In this research, gel compounds containing thermochromic ingredients were manufactured and evaluated to prevent the transition hazards of fire and explosion, which they are one of the methods for detecting abnormal conditions caused by overheating of special materials early. And also, compounds of viscoelastic and brushing types were manufactured as the kind and content of raw materials, and manufacturing process to enlarge the application for overheat-detecting targets. Test methods were conducted as chromism test, viscosity profile, starting time of thermochromism, and FT-IR analysis. Thermochromic gel materials exhibit chromism properties that can detect abnormal conditions effectively, and then they are possible to various applications.

  • This study, by selecting 3 kinds(Polish T, H, C) of metal polish being frequently used for silver archival objects treatment at present, a polish having excellent conservative property that minimizes damage of silver surface while effectively removing its yellow discolored layer by each using tool was intended to be discovered by comparing performance of tarnish inhibitor, corrosion inhibitor contained in each polish. As a result of analysis, it was confirmed that specimen that was cleaned with cotton swab and lint-free wipe by using Polish C provides not only uniformed surface expression and minimum damage but also removal function of corrosion layer. In addition, even though tarnish inhibition film should be formed after polish treatment, discolored phenomenon is unable to be prevented but among those polishes, Polish C was represented to be most stable against UV and yellowing and it showed relatively better features than that of Polish H and T in terms of hydrophobic, dispersive property. Through this, it is confirmed that Polish C would show the most excellent performance among polishes being used for conserving silver archival objects.

EFFECT OF CARBON DIOXIDE LASER ON INHIBITION OF DEMINERALIZATION AND REHARDENING OF PRIMARY TEETH (이산화탄소 레이저의 유치 탈회억제 및 재경화 효과)

  • The purpose of study was to investigate the effect of carbon dioxide laser on demineralization inhibition and rehardening of primary tooth enamel according to its power and irradiation time. 2mm diameter circle on the primary enamel surface was irradiated by defocused $10.6{\mu}m$ superpulse carbon dioxide laser at 6 Watt 2 seconds or at 3 Watt 8 seconds, before or after demineralization by Coca-Cola for 24 hours. Enamel surface change was measured by the Diagnodent. The results were analyzed with the former study results of 3 Watt 4 seconds and 6 Watt and 4 seconds. Diagnodent scores increased significantly after demineralization of irradiated enamel at 6W 2s or 3W 8s (P<0.05). Among the four groups, only 6W 4s group showed obvious demineralization inhibition effect. Diagnodent scores reduced significantly after 6W 2s or 3W 8s irradiation of demineralized enamel(P<0.05). Among the four groups, 6W 4s showed nearly complete rehardening effect, and the other groups showed partial effect. Tooth discoloration only occurred at 6W 4s. It seemed that caries inhibition and tooth discoloration depend on laser power more than total irradiation energy.

  • The effect of the heat treatment on electrochromic properties of $MoO_3$ thin films is investigated by studing optical modulation, optical density, response time, and cyclic voltammetry. From the results of XRD analysis, heat-treated at $450^{\circ}C$ in air for 1 hour $MoO_3$ thin films are found to be crystalline while as-deposited film and heat-treated at low temperature (${\leq}300^{\circ}C$) are amorphous. The electrochrornic devices using as-deposited $MoO_3$ films exhibits good electrochromic properties compare to those using the heat treated $MoO_3$ films. It has shown that the heat-treatment affected the stability and the electrochromic properties of $MoO_3$ films.

Studies on Photoprotection of Walnut Veneer Exposed to UV Light (자외선 노출에 의한 Walnut 베니어의 광 변색 방지 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of several chemical treatments to prevent photodegradation of wood veneer by external UV (Ultraviolet) light. Of woods, walnut veneer is selected as a raw material for this study since it is known as a luxurious wood with dark color giving an esthetic effect. Alcohol-benzene, hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) and sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) solution were used for investigate the effect on color stabilization. Despite the removal of the extractive compounds, which is known as a discoloration component, a significant color change of walnut wood veneer was observed. Meanwhile, the veneers treated by 20 and 30% $H_2O_2$ solution at $75^{\circ}C$ for 1 h also showed the no positive effect of color stability exposed to UV light although they have a bleaching effect on wood veneer. Besides, it was difficult to maintain the original color of walnut veneer due to the elution of the extractive compounds. On the other hands, the veneer treated by NaClO solution indicated the good performance on color stability despite of the intensive UV light test. However, when the concentration exceeds 3%, surface roughness and fiber damage occurred simultaneously. Therefore, the walnut species should be treated with proper concentration when sodium hypochlorite is applied to the veneer.

  • This study aimed to compare the effects of applying different types of dentin bonding agents (DBAs) on tooth and on the sealing ability of CSC in regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs). Specimens were made from 120 human first premolars and categorized into the following groups based on the presence and the type of DBA: Group I, no bonding; Group II, One-Step; Group III, Clearfil SE Bond; and Group IV, Single Bond Universal. Subsequently, the groups were categorized into Subgroup a and Subgroup b, in which Endocem MTA® Premixed Regular and Biodentine were used, respectively. The CIE L*a*b* on the photos taken prior to TAP placement (S0), 1 week after TAP placement (S1), 2 weeks after TAP placement (S2), 4 weeks after TAP placement (S3) and 2 weeks after CSC placement (S4) was used to assess discoloration. The samples were submerged in a 2% methylene blue solution and magnified by 30 times under a stereomicroscope to assess microleakage. The application of DBA during REP reduced crown discoloration, while Biodentine showed minimal discoloration with or without DBA and regardless of the DBA type. Additionally, the application of DBA did not increase microleakage.

  • The difference of oral environment improvement effect of the test dentifrice was examined by applying the Centella Asiatica extract on the oral dentifrice composed by above ingredients. And by using the double blind manner the plaque, gingival index and probing pocket depth were measured and the corresponding changes were set to be verified.

  • This study investigated the effect of salt and glucono-${\delta}$-lactone (GdL) on the cold-set binding of restructured pork washed and pressurized at 200 MPa. Binding strength, PH, water holding capacity (WHC) and color were determined. NaCl improved pH, WHC and binding strength. GdL also increased binding strength while decreased WHC and pH significantly (p<0.05). However, low GdL level combined with NaCl showed high pH and WHC, compared to control. In color, NaCl decreased $L^*$-value with increasing $a^*$-value significantly (p<0.05). In contrast to NaCl, GdL increased $L^*$-value and decreased $a^*$-value. GdL tended to decrease $b^*$-value and significant differences were found when GdL was added above 1%. Pearson's correlation coefficients presented that NaCl had a significant effect on binding strength (0.6632) and lightness (-0.7330) while GdL had a significant correlation with all parameters barring binding strength. The results indicated that under washing and pressure treatments, GdL had a potential effect on cold-set binding with reducing NaCl concentration, especially when low GdL concentration combined with NaCl was added.

  • 식품에 대한 고압의 영향은 이미 19C말이나 20C초부터 연구되어 왔다. 본 논문에서는 식품의 보존기간(shelf-life)에 미치는 고압의 영향과 고압(HHP, High Hydrostatic Pressure)하에서 단백질의 3차 구조가 어떻게 변화하는 지에 대해 살펴 보고자 한다. 보통 식품가공에 적용되는 고압은 몇 초 내지 몇 분 동안에 50∼1000MPa 정도의 압력이 가해지는 것을 말한다. 소비자들이 식품을 선택할 때 가장 먼저 민감하게 느끼는 점은 식품의 색이다. 그러나 색은 가공과정이나 유통기간중에 변색이 쉽다. 따라서 색이나 풍미성분의 손실을 최소화하면서 식품의 보존기간을 늘리기 위해서 고압처리 기술이 주목을 받게 된 것이다. 식품의 색은 소비자들로 하여금 그 식품의 품질을 미리 짐작하게 하는 중요한 요소로서, 과일의 경우는 당도까지도 예측하게 한다. 그러므로 식품의 색이 소비자에게 주는 정보를 과소 평가해서는 안된다.

Studies on White Potato Processing for Mixed Cooking with Rice as Main Dish (PartII)-Polyphenol oxidase inactivation and safety of treated potato granules- (감자 주식화(主食化)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (제2보(第2報))-감자쌀의 변색방지(變色防止) 및 안정성(安定性)에 관(關)하여-)

  • In order to establish methods of potato processing for mixed cooking with rice as main diet, treatment for polyphenol oxidase inactivation in potato tissues, and safety in regard to sanitation were studied. The results were summarized as follows: 1. Cut potato granule which were blanched in boiling water are practical and best in color within $3{\sim}6\;minutes$ dipping. 2. Dipping treatment of potato granules in a saline solution is not pratical because of the resulting color and saline taste. 3. Dipping treatment of potato granules in a boiling saline solution is not practical because of residual salt. 4. Dipping treatment of potato granules in low concentration of hydrochloric acid solution is not effective in color changes but dipping treatment from 0.1N concentration for 4-10 minutes to 0.5N concentration for $1{\sim}10minutes$ shows good effects. 5. Dipping treatment in boiling hydrochloric acid solution of 0.04-0.068N concentration for 3-5 minutes dipping is practical for its resulting color. 6. Dipping treatments in 0.05% of $K_2S_20_5$ solution for $50{\sim}60\;minutes$ and in 0.06% for $40{\sim}60\;minutes$ and 0.065% for $10{\sim}60\;minutes$ shows a small palatability in color but its boiled potato granules shows good color 7. Treatments for any time in $0.01{\sim}0.03%$ of boiling $K_2K_20_5$ solution after predipping in its cold solution for longer time than 30minutes show effective in the color and palatability of the potato granules and their cooked ones. 8. From the view of food sanitation, dipping treatment of the potato granules in the solution of $K_2S_20_5$ is safe because of the few residual amount of $SO_2$. 9. All the methods of treatment that potato granules are dipped for any time at 0.01% of $K_2S_20_5$ solution are safe from the view of fond sanitation. At 0.03% of $K_2S_20_5$ solution, nothing but the methods of treatment that they are dipped within 30 minutes and boiled within 4 minutes are safe.
