The surface settlement of the back ground of a braced wall due to the ground excavation has the great influence on the safety of the surrounding area. But it is not easy to predict the settlement of the surrounding area due to proud excavation. Estimation of the settlement of the surface ground induced by the deformation of the braced wall is performed by FEM and empirical method (Peck, Clough etc). In this research, surface settlement of the back ground braced wall depending on the joint dips in rocks during excavating the composit ground was measured at the large scale model test (standard: $0.3m{\times}0.3m{\times}0.5m$). The scale of model test was 1/14.5 and the ground was excavated in ten steps. Earth pressure on the braced wall and ground surface settlement on the back ground of a braced wall were investigated. The surface settlement during the excavation depended on the joint dips in rocks on of the ratio of rock layer. Maximum earth pressure and maximum surface settlement were masured at the same excavation step. In accordance with the increase of the rock layer dips and rock layer ratio, the ground surface settlement increased. The maximum ground surface settlement was 17 times larger at 60 degree joint dips in rocks than that of the horizontal ground conditions. And the position of the maximum surface settlement by empirical method was calculated at the point, which was 17%~33% of excavation depth. In accordance with the increase of the rock layer dips and rock layer ratio, the ground maximum surface settlement increased. The ground surface settlement of composite ground is smaller than that of the empirical.
This paper deals with the characteristics of earth pressure to the debris-fall prevention walls which usually are installed in front of steep slope. Such walls have narrow backfill width where the active soil wedge can not be developed fully. The earth pressure to such walls ue affected by the movement of wall and arching effects due to the friction developing on the surface of adjacent ground slope and wall and therefore cannot be analyzed and calculated reliably. The study is carried out through laboratory model tests using centrifuge test. Test results reveal that the earth pressure to the debris-fall prevention wall depends largely on the inclination angle of the ground slope and the wall movement. The earth pressure reduction due to wall movement was observed at the upper half of wall, while the arching effect was significant at the lower half especially in the case of steep ground slope. It can be said that from the result of this study in the design of a debris-fall prevention wall the earth pressure should be determined considering the inclination of ground slope and the condition of wall movement during and after construction.
Together with the wall stiffness, a berm has the role of deciding the stability of a temporary retaining wall before structure installation after excavation. Especially in case of loose or soft soil excavated ground, the role of berm is very important. In this study, the measurement data obtained from the temporary retaining wall in the bermed excavation site in urban and numerical analysis are used to investigate the effects of berm's dimension (width and slope), excavation depth and ground property on the maximum horizontal displacement of the temporary retaining wall. The measurement data indicated that the wall displacement varied to the berm's width. That is, as the berm width decreased, the wall displacement increased. As a result of numerical analyses, the maximum wall displacement increased as slope increased and berm width decreased. This means that the berm is effectively restrained to the wall displacement. As excavation depth increased, the effect of berm's slope and width increased. In case of the same berm condition, the wall displacement restrained as ground property increased.
Lateral earth Pressure distributions due to the ,randy soil backfill behind the rigid vertical walls for three different wall movement modes are obtained by the elasto-plastic finite element analys of soil deformation, and these earth pressures are compared with both Rankine's and Dubrova's active earth pressures. Thereby, the effects of the magnitude and the mode of wall displacement on the earth pressure distribution are investigated. Three different modes of wall movement considered in this study are the rotation about bottom, the rotation about top and the translation. For the case of the wall rotation about top, the earth pressure distribution is shown as a reverse S-curve-shaped distribution due to the arching effect. Consequently, the point of application of the lateral thrust is much higher than one-third of the wall height from the base. And, comparing the other modes of wall movement, the magnitude and the point of appliestion of the lateral thrust for the wall rotation about top are larger and higher, respectively. The wedge-shaped plastic zone in the backfill at active failure is developed only for the mode of wall rotation about bottom. The lateral earth pressure distributions on the walls with inclined backfill of several different slopes are shown for the mode of wall rotation about bottom.
This study examined the magnitude and distribution of earth pressure on the support system in a jointed rock mass due to the different joint sets as well as varying the rock type and joint condition (joint shear strength and joint inclination angle). Based on a physical model test and its numerical simulation, a series of numerical parametric analyses were conducted using a discrete element method. The results showed that the induced earth pressure was affected significantly by a joint set depending on the inclusion of the joint inclination angle, which induces a joint sliding condition, but the number of joint sets alone was not important, even though the earth pressure could be increased slightly as the number of joint sets is increased. In addition, the study results were compared with Peck's earth pressure for soil ground, which indicated that the earth pressure in a jointed rock mass could be considerably different from that in soil ground. The study suggests that the effects of joint sets as well as rock type and joint condition are important factors affecting the earth pressure in a jointed rock mass and they should be considered when designing a support system in a jointed rock mass.

In this study, the design and numerical analysis method of the inclined self-supported wall using cement treated soil were studied. In the case of the inclined self-supported wall, the active earth pressure decreased due to the decrease in the coefficient, Ka according to the slope (angle) and the weight decreasing effect, thereby increasing the overall stability. The wall with the slope caused a change in failure mode from overturning to sliding on the excavation side, and the optimal slope was evaluated to be about 10°. Compared to the strength reduction method, the overall stability in numerical analysis results in conservative results in limit equilibrium analysis, so it was found that this method should be attended when designing. As a result of the parameteric study, the stability on bearing capacity and compression failure did not significantly increase above the slope of 10° when the surcharge was small (about 20kPa or less). In the case of cohesion of the backfill, The results similar to numerical analysis were found to consider cohesion. It was evaluated that stability on sliding, oveturning, shear, and tension failure increases in proportion to the thickness of the wall, but there is no significant change in the stability on the bearing capacity and compressive failure regardless of the thickness of the wall above a certain angle (about 10°).

Inclinometer has several problems of 1)difficulty installing inclinometer casing, 2) measuring 2D local lateral displacement of retaining wall, 3) measurement by manpower. To solve such problems, a 2D LiDAR sensor-based retaining wall displacement measurement system was developed in previous studies. The purpose of this study is to select a displacement analysis algorithm to be applied in the retaining wall displacement measurement system. As a result of the displacement analysis algorithm selection, the M3C2 (Multiple Model to Model Cloud Comparison) algorithm with a displacement estimation error of 2mm was selected as the displacement analysis algorithm. If the M3C2 algorithm is applied in the system and the reliability of the displacement analysis result is secured through several field experiments. Convenient management of the displacement for the retaining wall is possible in comparison with the current measurement management.
Most large cut slopes of open pit mines, roadways, and railways are steeply inclined and composed with rocks that do not contain soils. However, these rock slopes suffer both weathering and fragmentation. In the case of steep slopes, falling rock and collapse of a slope may often occur due to surface erosion. Cast-in place concrete and rubble work are the most widely used earth structure-based pressure supports that act as restraints against the collapse of the rock slope. In order to overcome the shortcomings of conventional retaining walls, a segmental grid retaining wall is being used with connects precasted segments to construct the wall. In this study, laboratory model test was conducted to estimate deformation behavior of segmental grid retaining wall with configuration of rear strecher, height and inclination of the wall. In order to examine the behavior characteristics of a segmental grid retaining wall, this research analyzes the aspects of spacial displacement through relative displacement according to change in the inclination of the wall. Also, the walls behavior according to the formation and status of the rear stretcher which serves the role of transferring the load from the header and the stretcher which make up the wall, the displacement of backfill materials in the wall, and the location of the maximum load were surveyed and the characteristics of displacement in the segmental grid retaining wall were observed. The test results of the segmental grid retaining wall showed that there was a sudden increase in failure load according to the decrease in the wall's height and the size of the in was greatly decreased. Furthermore, it revealed that with identical inclination and height, the structure of the rear stitcher did not greatly affect the starting point or size of maximum horizontal displacement, but rather had a stronger effect on the inclination of the wall.
This study employs traditional statistical auto-regressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) and deep learning-based long short-term memory (LSTM) models to predict the deformation of earth retaining walls using inclinometer data from excavation sites. It compares the predictive capabilities of both models. The ARIMA model excels in analyzing linear patterns as time progresses, while the LSTM model is adept at handling complex nonlinear patterns and long-term dependencies in the data. This research includes preprocessing of inclinometer measurement data, performance evaluation across various data lengths and input conditions, and demonstrates that the LSTM model provides statistically significant improvements in prediction accuracy over the ARIMA model. The findings suggest that LSTM models can effectively assess the stability of retaining walls at excavation sites. Additionally, this study is expected to contribute to the development of safety monitoring systems at excavation sites and the advancement of time series prediction models.
