  • Consumers evaluate stores by comparing stores that we, in their minds, similar and are competitive with one another; and in this way, the term "consideration set of stores" is defined as those store alternatives the consumer is aware of and evaluates positively. The purpose of this study is to aid in understanding the consideration set of stores in store choice processes in apparel product purchases. More specifically, this study aims to clarify the relation between consideration set of stores and importance of store image. As a result, the respondents of quantitative study were classified into seven groups by the number of stores and store types they considered: 1) "small-road shop sets group" ; 2) "small-market sets group" ; 3) "small- department store sets group" ; 4) "small-department store/outlet sets group" ; 5) "large-department store/market sets group" ; 6) "large-department store/road shop sets group" ; and 7) "large-department store sets group". Further, significant differences among the groups in the importance of store image were observed. For example, low prices were an important factor in both the small-market considering group and large-department store/market considering group when choosing a retail store, there were also differences in the considering groups in that for the small-department store considering group, store mileage-discount cards were important whereas ample space for relaxation around the stores were important retail store selection factors for the large-department store/road shop considering group. This study may provide a useful direction to retailers in finding out who the target customers and competitive stores are and allow retailers to make proper marketing strategies.

In addition, by comparing the types of stores, we tried to suggest alternatives that can be practically applied to companies producing composite origin products. For this purpose, this study is applied to the analysis of bi-national product by product categories, such as public luxury, public luxury, private luxury, and private necessity, based on the psychological bases of consumers. The types of stores are divided into department store/direct store, outlet/discount store to elaborate measurement. As a result of the verification, it was found that brand evaluation and store evaluation had interactive effects depending on product type and store type. Specifically, in the case of public luxury goods, outlets/discount stores in both brand evaluation and store evaluation showed positive evaluation than department store/direct store. In the case of private necessity, there was no significant difference in brand evaluation, but in store evaluation, department store/direct store was confirmed that they had a relatively positive evaluation than outlets/discount stores. • A systematic brand value management starts from its measurement. Accordingly, a number of studies have proposed to measure the value of the brands. However, most of them deal with the brand value of the tangible products. Also, in many cases, such an effort did not bring long-lasting effects because either it ended up with an one-time measurement or it employed a different measurement method each time, thus hampering the comparability of the results and the accumulation of knowledge over time. So, this study has measured retail brand value index of the discount stores and the department stores of Korea every year between 2002 and 2004. And then it provides what they have found over that period. In addition this study examines the significant relationship between retail brand value components and the market performance.

  • In this study, we used the Q methodology, which is considered an effective way to identify and assess the characterization of the human subjective consciousness, and we intended to carry out a scientific approach to classify cosmetics consumers in a department store. The purpose of this study is to identify the dimension of recognition and the characterization of Korean women who use a department store, as well as to classify cosmetics consumers in a department store. The analyzed data was divided into the top 10 questions and 10 sub-items, and it was then classified into six consumer types, depending on typicality of three factors. The three factors were 'effectiveness', 'goal' and 'congestion of shopping'. We named and analyzed the features of each type through in-depth Q workshops in which 22 professionals participated. This study is meaningful as it used the Q-methodology instead of statistics which had been used before to classify the consumers, so that the 'subjective' estimation was analyzed into 'objective' types. The results of this study are expected to be useful for creating a marketing strategy for the cosmetics industry.
