  • Concern about air pollution is gradually rising up in domestic and foreign, automotive and fuel researchers are trying to reduce vehicle exhaust emissions, through a lot of approaches, which consist of new engine design and innovative after-treatment systems, using clean (eco-friendly alternative) fuels and fuel quality improvement. This research is proceeding by two main issues : exhaust emissions and PM particle emissions of gasoline vehicle. Exhaust emissions, non-regulated emissions and PM (particulate matter) particles of automotive are causing many problems which ambient pollution and harmful effects on the human body. The main particulate fraction of automotive exhaust emissions consists of small particles. Because of their small size, inhaled particles can easily penetrate deep into the lungs. The rough surfaces of these particles make it easier for them to combine with other toxins in the environment. Thus, the hazards of particle inhalation are increased. Based on the oxygenated fuel additive types (MTBE, Bio-ETBE, Bio-ethanol, Bio-butanol), this paper discussed the influence of oxygen contents on gasoline vehicle exhaust emissions, non-regulated emissions and nano-particle emissions. Also, this paper assessed exhaust emission characteristics at 2 type test modes. The test modes were FTP-75 and HWFET. All measurement items be verified less than the value of regulated emissions. It could be known difference increase and decrease by each measurement item depending on increase the oxygen contents.

  • 교토의정서 발효는 전력산업에도 많은 영향을 미칠 것이며 국제환경규제 강화에 대응하기 위하여는 온실가스 배출 저감기술이나 에너지효율 향상 등의 기술시장 활성화가 필요한 시점이다. 온실가스 배출량 산정은 기후변화협약과 관련하여 전력산업의 위험요소와 기회요 소를 파악하기 위한 기초 자교로서 본 연구는 전력사 온실가스통계 통합기반 구축의 일환으로 국내 도서지역의 전력 수급 실적을 분석하고 이에 따른 온실가스 배출계수를 산정 하였다.

  • In this paper, as a determining factor of the Environment Kuznets Curve hypothesis, we analyzed the impact of technological innovation. In this paper, in order to empirically validate the role of technological innovation to an inverted U-shaped Environments Kuznets Curve hypothesis, we utilize the 2SLS considering relationship between R&D and the GDP per capita. Also, using the Panel VAR (Panel Vector Auto Regression) model to analyze with what time lag R&D per capita has impact on the emissions of greenhouse gases per capita. Empirical results show that R&D per capita(proxy of innovation) is a important factor to explain Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis, and that the external shock such as R&D per capita reduces greenhouse gas emissions per capita with about 3 time lag.

  • 천연가스 자동차의 배출가스 정화특성은 가솔린보다 우수하며 대기오염물질이 전반적으로 매우 낮아 천연가스 자동차의 저공해성을 확인할 수 있다. 이를 위한 촉매개발 기술에서는 Pb촉매가 메탄의 산화에 유리하며, 촉매구조는 Single-bed 보다 Dual-bed type이 메탄의 정화율에 유리하다는 것을 알았다. 각종 배기성분의 공존영향에서는 공존하는 NOx, H$_{2}$O가 메탄의 산화반응을 억제하는 요인으로 작용함을 알았다. 그리고, 천연가스 전용촉매는 초기 내구성이 급격히 저하하는 특성이 있는데, 이는 Lanthanoid 조촉매를 사용하므로써 개선의 가능성을 보이고 있다.

  • 우리나라의 자동차 등록대수는 90년대 중반 이후 1,000만대를 돌파하여, 2002년 12월 현재 1천 4백만 대에 육박하고 있다. 2000년 전국 대기오염물질 배출량 조사결과의 수송부문의 기여율은 58%로서, 자동차 오염물질이 국내 대기질 악화에 중요한 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있으며, 이 중에서도 특히 경유자동차는 중요한 오염물질 배출원으로 알려져 있다. 경유자동차 저공해화 대책의 일환인 천연가스차 보급으로 대형 경유차에 대해서는 저공해화 기반이 마련되었으나, 중ㆍ소형 경유차에 대한 대책은 상대적으로 미흡한 실정이었다.(중략)

Effect of Compression Ratio Change on Emission Characteristics of HCNG Engine (압축비 변화가 수소-천연가스 엔진의 배기특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study focused on a heavy-duty natural gas engine fuelled with HCNG (CNG: 70 vol%, hydrogen: 30 vol%) and CNG. To study the emission characteristics of an HCNG engine with high compression ratio, the exhaust gas of CNG and HCNG fuel were analyzed in relation to the change in the compression ratio at the half load condition. The results showed that the thermal efficiency improved with an increase in the compression ratio. Consequently, $CO_2$ emission decreased. CO emission increased with inefficient oxidation due to the low exhaust gas temperature. $NO_x$ emission with high compression ratio was increased at the same excess air ratio condition. However, $NO_x$ emission was not affected by a compression ratio exceeding ${\lambda}$ = 1.9 because of the same MBT timing.

  • In orderto cope with the post-2020 in accordance with the Paris Agreement, greenhouse gas (GHG)reduction in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and its contributions to post-2020 were discussed. The 26 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) administered by Geum-River Basin Environmental Office from 2010 to 2019 were analyzed for reviewing GHG mitigation measures. From the case study, it was found that the assessment of GHG emissions reduction and climate change adaptation were not appropriately performed. In this study, the following measures are proposed to improve the inappropriate assessment of 'GHG subject matter' associated with EIA according to post-2020, 1) allotment of enforced charge on GHG emission during the EIA process, 2) addition of the 'GHG subject matter' in 'establishing permissible discharge standards' which is based on "Act on the Integrated Control of Pollutant-discharging Facilities", and 3) the participation of stakeholders in early EIA stage for governance. Also the details on the EIA for the preparedness of post-2020 were discussed here.

Estimation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Korean Livestock During the Period 1990~2013 (1990년부터 2013년까지 우리나라 축산부문 온실가스 배출량 평가)

  • According to the "Framework Act on Low Carbon, Green Growth", publication of annual national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory report is mandatory. This annual GHG inventory report is used as basal data for GHG mitigation strategies. In the livestock sector, GHG emission trends from year 1990 to 2013 were estimated based on the 1996 IPCC guidelines with the Tier 1 methodology. GHG emissions from the livestock sector in 2013 were 9.9 million tons $CO_2-eq$., where emissions from enteric fermentation were 4.4 million tons $CO_2-eq$, increased by 47.4% over 1990 mainly due to the increase in non-dairy cattle population. On the other hand, GHG emissions from livestock manure in 2013 were 5.5 million tons $CO_2-eq$, increased by 75.5% over 1990 mainly due to the increase in non-dairy cattle, swine and poultry populations. Additional research is required to develop country-specific emission factors to estimate GHG emissions precisely from livestock in South Korea.

  • Korean government is enforcing 'Greenhouse gas target management' in order to achieve Greenhouse gas reduction target. To attain Greenhouse gas reduction target, companies in Korea must establish their GHG inventory system and analysis their GHG emissions characteristics for deduction of mitigation measures. LMDI(Log Mean Divisia Index) decomposition analysis is widely used to understand characteristics of GHG emission and energy consumption. In this paper, the characteristics of GHG emission from the line of railroad in Korea is respectively analyzed in terms of conversion effect, intensity effect, production effect and distance effect. Data of railroad GHG emission from 2000 to 2007 are used. As a result, total effect of railroad's GHG emission is $96,813tCO_2eq$. Production effect ($39,865tCO_2eq$) and distance effect ($327,923tCO_2eq$) affect increase of railroad GHG emissions while Conversion effect ($-158,161tCO_2eq$) and intensity effect ($-112,814tCO_2eq$) influence decrease of the emissions.

  • Natural gas is one of the most promising alternative fuels for automotive vehicles. However, natural gas varies in compositional between the originating fields and may be further modified due to processing and additional mixing. These variations are known to affect engine performance and emissions through changes in fuel metering and combustion characteristics. In the present study, the effect of gas compositions on vehicle performance such as fuel economy, driveability and exhaust emissions was examined. Analysis are made of using 3 types of NGVs which were made by automakers and 6 different fuels which are selected in consideration of the variation in fuel composition on the worldwide market. The results may be utilized to develop natural gas natural gas engine in automaekrs and/or to establish the fuel standard in the refueling stations.
