Development of Visual Inspection System for Culvert in Levee Using Checklists and Smart Phone (육안점검표 및 스마트폰을 이용한 하천제방 배수통문 육안점검시스템 개발)

  • Culverts are structures constructed across river levees. Since river levees are to be constructed continuously, constructions of culvert are known to reduce the stability of river levees. In order to establish an effective inspection system of culverts, a visual inspection system using checklists and smart phone was recommended in this paper. It was determined that the recommended visual inspection checklist is applicable in establishing the investment priority based on the culvert's repair plan establishment, repair and precision safety inspection.

An Experimental Study on Suppression of Cavity Development by Enlargement of Base Plate of Box-Culvert Installed at River Levee (하천제방 배수통문의 저판확폭을 통한 공동발생 억제기법 연구)

  • Generally, the Box-Culvert in levee is destroyed by various reasons. Especially when Box-Culvert is installed over the pile foundation in soft ground, the failure occurrs for 1) the weakness of compaction in Box-Culvert side by the differential settlement between outer ground and inner soil prism, 2) hydraulic fracturing and disturbance of Box-Culvert side soil by the repeated acting of seepage pressure at flood time. Also the side of Box-Culvert is difficult to compact and the shear resistance is reduced by more than 1/3 for the reduction of friction caused by the difference of material property. In this study, a series of model tests are conducted for the analysis of the development mechanism of outer ground and inner soil prism by the differential settlement using the pile foundation in soft ground, and cavity suppressed technique is suggested by the analysis of base plate enlargement effect.

Numerical Studies for the Safety Estimation of Box-Culvert in Levee (수치해석을 이용한 하천제방 배수통문의 안정성 평가 연구)

  • In this study, 2-D seepage analysis is conducted for the evaluation of Box-Culvert installation, Cut-off Wall Length, permeability reduction of soil under the Box-Culvert effects on Levee Box-Culvert safety. The result of analysis it is obtained that the safety of seepage and slope stability of levee is declined by the installation of Box-Culver. And also obtained that the piping from poor compaction and cavity around Box-Culvert Is Prevented by the Cut-off wall installation below breast wall and levee toe, so it is recommended that the Cut-off Wall below breast wall and levee toe must be installed. And the Cut-off Wall installed below levee center is considered when the safety of piping is declined for the whole levee section. On the other hand, for the realistic analysis it is recommended that the 3-D seepage analysis is more suitable for the safety evaluation of Box-Culvert installed levee when it is considered that the saturated field is dispersed to the ground.

  • 하천법에서 정의하고 있는 하천시설은 시설은 제방과 수문을 포함하여 20여종에 달한다. 이 중 하천유지 보수 매뉴얼(국토교통부, 2016)에서 정한 유지관리 대상은 총 14종이며, 국가 및 지방하천 정비와 유지관리에 4대강살리기사업 완료 시점인 2012년 이후 연간 약 1.3조원의 예산을 투입하고 있다. 연간 막대한 예산이 투입되어 관리되고 있는 하천관리의 효율성을 제고하기 위해 하천시설에 대한 생애주기관리기법적용 연구가 진행 중이며 이를 위해서는 하천시설의 성능에 대한 정확한 평가가 선행되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 배수통문에 대한 성능평가모델을 산정하는 방법을 제시하였다. 우선적으로 배수통문의 설치년도와 시설물안전등급을 조사하고 등급별 평균사용연수를 산정하고 시설물 성능예측 기본식의 계수를 산정하여 성능평가모델 산정식을 도출하였다. 배수통문 성능평가모델 산정식과 등급별 평균 사용연수를 비교하여 산정식의 적용성을 검증하였다. 본 연구를 통해 하천시설의 사용연수에 따른 성능을 개략적으로 예측하여 유지관리예산 투입의 우선 순위를 결정하는데 기초자료로 활용이 가능하다고 판단된다.

  • 2-D and 3-D resistivity surveys were carried out at the Deok-In2 levee during the period of arid and rainy seasons to assess the waterproof effectiveness of sheet pile and grouting sections and detect the location of pipings. Inverted resistivity sections clearly indicated the boundaries of sheet pile and grouting sections and the locations of pipings observed at the ground surface. Besides, GPR survey was carried out to verify the rear cavity of culvert in levee which is thought to be the major cause of levee breakdown, But the quality of GPR data was very poor due to the steel reinforcements buried in the culvert. Because it is not easy to apply various geophysical surveys upon concrete structures, newly designed hydraulic response test was proposed to assess the continuity of rear cavity of culvert in this study.

  • After choosing twenty sluice culverts located at national rivers by detailed appearance evaluation, hydraulic response test and acoustic televiewer in addition to surface geophysical explorations were carried out to investigate the cavities which exist at the boundary of sluice culvert and ground. Tapping, GPR, 3-D resistivity surveys and acoustic televiewer imagery obtained successful results in limited conditions according to characteristics of the sites. On the other hand, hydraulic response test successfully detected cavity existing at the lower part of sluice culvert and its continuity. However, hydraulic response test can not supply the quantitative informations on the scale and the shape of cavity. Thus it is very important for accurate investigation to make comprehensive interpretation after supplying various surveys proper to site characteristics.

Seepage Behaviors of Enlargement Levee Containing Box Culvert Constructed on Soft Ground (연약지반에 설치된 배수통문을 포함하는 하천 보축제체의 수문 위치에 따른 침투 거동)

  • In the case of the enlargement levee on the soft foundation, the existing levee and the enlargement levee connection can be damaged due to heterogeneous subsidence such as differential settlement at the joint of the box culvert passing through the levee. This study selected the downstream region of the Geum River and then confirmed the influence of the piping possibility on the levee by performing a 2D seepage analysis and analyzing the seepage tendency according to the position of the box culvert's gate. As a result, the flow velocity and the hydraulic gradient are larger in the upper breakage than the lower breakage, and the upper leak was more vulnerable to the piping than the lower leak. If leaks occur in the gate located on the riverside land, the risk of piping is increased when the water level rises and is maintained highly. In the case of the gate located on the inland, it could be predicted that the leakage could damage the stability of levee by increasing the water pressure inside the levee. As a result, if leakage occurs at any position in the box culvert, the pore water pressure is increased or decreased compared with the case when no leakage occurs. Therefore, if the pore water pressure is drastically reduced or increased compared with the normal case, leakage may occur. However, the result of this study is based on a 2D seepage analysis, and it is likely to be different from actual cases. Therefore, more detailed analysis by 3D analysis is recommended.
