A New High-Quality, Disease Resistance and High-Yielding Rehmannia glutinosa Cultivar, "Kokang" (고품질 내병 다수성 지황 고강)

  • Kokang is a high-quality, disease resistant and high-yielding Rehmannia glutinosa cultivar developed by the medicinal crop breeding team of National Institute of Crop Science, RDA, during the period from 1997 to 2005. The reproduction of Rehmania glutinosa has been accomplished mainly by vegetative propagation with its seedlings have many variants. The cultivar was selected from seedling of Jihwang 1. The plant type of Kokang is some rising from ground. It has higher disease resistance, catalpol content and extract content compared with Jihwang 1. Regional yield trials conducted at three site from 2003 to 2005. The root yield of Kokang was 11.8ton per hectare, which was increased 13% compared with a check variety, Jihwang 1. This cultivar is adaptable to the whole of Korea except for mountain areas.

Analysis of Slope Stability of Masonry Retaining Walls in Quarry (석산개발 지역 퇴적장 석축사면의 안정성 해석)

  • The slope stabilization analysis was performed by conducting survey and selecting the representative section in order to improve slope composition and management technology of masonry embankments in the quarry area, The mean slope of the masonry retain wall (A, B, C, D, E, F) was $38.5^{\circ}$, although the steep slope of the lowest slope (A) as $59^{\circ}$. The horizontal distance of the masonry embankments is 66.2 m and the slope height is 48.3 m. However, the inclination of the masonry embankments is relatively steep and visually unstable. The slope stability analysis for the slope stability analysis was taken into account during the drying and saturation. The slope stability analysis during saturation was performed by modeling the fully saturated slope. The strength constants of the ground were divided into two groups. The safety factor for dry period was 1.850 and the safety factor for rainy season was 1.333. The safety rate of dry period and rainy season was above 1.5 and 1.2. However, the weathered granite on the upper part of the masonry embankments at the time of heavy rainfall is considered to have a high risk of slope erosion and collapse. Therefore, it is considered necessary to take measures for stabilization through appropriate maintenance such as drainage installation.

Development of a Colorimetric Rapid Detection Method for Organophosphorus and Carbamate Pesticides using Gold Nanoparticle Aggregation Principle (금 나노 입자 응집 원리를 이용한 유기인계와 카바메이트계 비색-신속 농약검출법 개발)

  • A colorimetric rapid detection method based on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) was developed for the analysis of organophosphorus (OP) and carbamate (CB) pesticides. The AChE catalyzes acetylthiocholine into thiocholine having (-) and (+) charges, and the (+) charge results in gold nanoparticle (GNP) aggregation. The in-activation of AChE by OP and CB has been well known. In order to optimize the colorimetric method, optimal dilution times of commercial serum containing AChE, diameter of GNP, and concentration of acetylthiocholine were tested as a key parameter. The colorimetric detection limits of the method were 7.5 ng/mL for both dimethyl amine and carbofuran pesticides in 60% ethanol. No cross-reaction to other chemicals, such as aflatoxin B1 and ochratoxin A, which can be contaminated with pesticides in agricultural products, was observed. Recoveries from lettuce, sesame leaf, and cabbage lettuce spiked with known concentrations of dimethyl amine and carbofuran were found to be ranged from 83.85 to 133.16%. These results indicated that the colorimetric rapid method based on AChE can be a useful tool for the sensitive, specific, rapid, and accurate detection of OP and CB pesticides in fresh vegetables.

Training a semantic segmentation model for cracks in the concrete lining of tunnel (터널 콘크리트 라이닝 균열 분석을 위한 의미론적 분할 모델 학습)

  • In order to keep infrastructures such as tunnels and underground facilities safe, cracks of concrete lining in tunnel should be detected by regular inspections. Since regular inspections are accomplished through manual efforts using maintenance lift vehicles, it brings about traffic jam, exposes works to dangerous circumstances, and deteriorates consistency of crack inspection data. This study aims to provide methodology to automatically extract cracks from tunnel concrete lining images generated by the existing tunnel image acquisition system. Specifically, we train a deep learning based semantic segmentation model with open dataset, and evaluate its performance with the dataset from the existing tunnel image acquisition system. In particular, we compare the model performance in case of using all of a public dataset, subset of the public dataset which are related to tunnel surfaces, and the tunnel-related subset with negative examples. As a result, the model trained using the tunnel-related subset with negative examples reached the best performance. In the future, we expect that this research can be used for planning efficient model training strategy for crack detection.

A Study on the Effect of Household Loans on Financial Soundness in Banks (주택담보대출이 국내은행의 재무건전성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of household loan share on bank management soundness. The results of the empirical analysis are summarized as follows. First, as a result of estimating coefficient of the mortgage loan ratio shows a significant negative relationship with the BIS equity capital ratio of banks. In addition, it was found that the mortgage loan ratio had a significant positive (+) effect on Eunhae's BIS and equity capital ratio after the financial crisis. Second, as a result of the estimation coefficient of the mortgage ratio showed a significant positive (+) relationship with the NPL of the bank and below. In addition, it is estimated that the bank's secured loan ratio changed significantly before and after the financial crisis in the effect of banks' NPL and substandard-and-below loans. It is expected to make implication to financial policy and banking regulation and supervision. We believe that more efforts should be made to increase the soundness of household loans in preparation for risk factors that may arise from exogenous factors such as changes in the international financial environment and falling property prices.

Change in the Concrete Strength of Forest Road Drainage Systems Caused by Forest Fires (산불로 인한 임도 배수시설의 콘크리트 강도 변화)

  • As forest fires continue to increase in scale worldwide, the importance of forest roads in relation to forest fire prevention and suppression has become increasingly evident. To ensure effective functioning during a forest fire disaster, it is crucial to apply appropriate road planning and ensure roads' structural integrity. However, previous studies have predominantly focused on the impact of forest fires on firebreak efficacy and road placement, meaning that insufficient attention has been paid to ensuring the safety of these facilities. Therefore, this study sought to compare the strength of concrete facilities within areas damaged by forest fires over the past three years by using the rebound hammer test to identify signs of thermal degradation. The results revealed that concrete facilities damaged by forest fires exhibited significantly lower strength (15.6 MPa) when compared with undamaged facilities (18.0 MPa) (p<0.001), and this trend was consistent across all the target facilities. Consequently, it is recommended that safety assessment criteria for concrete forest road facilities be established to prevent secondary disasters following forest fire damage. Moreover, continuous monitoring and research involving indoor experiments are imperative in terms of enhancing the stability of forest road structures. It is expected that such research will lead to the development of more effective strategies for forest fire prevention and suppression.

Stability of a Natural Slope in Sedimentary Rocks (퇴적암 지역의 자연사면 안정성)

  • An unstable natural slope located at Icheon-Ri, Dasa-Eup, Dalseong-Kun which has been severely cracked during heavy rain fall in September, 1998, was investigated and analysed for remedial measures. Various geological data were obtained by performing a surface geological survey, a ground penetrating radar(GPR) exploration, four geotechnical borings with field and laboratory tests, and the precipitation records were also reviewed. Based on the these data, the probable sliding plane was determined as a bedding plane with dip angle of 20 to 25 degrees between sandstone and shale layers at depth of 6 to 8 meters. By performing back analyses with the limit equilibrium method, the friction angle and cohesion of the sliding plane were determined as 18$^{\circ}$ and 0, respectively. Based on these results, a series of stability analyses such as stereo-graphic projection method, limiting equilibrium method and numerical method were carried out. The remedial measures for the unstable slope were selected based on the results of the limit equilibrium analyses by considering various conditions expected at the site. Ground grouting or anchoring method with proper surface drainage systems could be employed for the long term safety of the slope.

A Method to Obtain Effective Ground Conductivity Value in the Middle Frequency Band where the Informations of Soil Characteristics are Insufficient (토양의 정보가 부족한 지형에 적용 가능한 중파대역 유효 대지 도전율 계산법)

  • In this work, a new method to obtain the effective ground conductivity value in the middle frequency band where the informations of soil characteristics are insufficient was proposed. The proposed method obtained the effective ground conductivity values with the measured field strength from sea reference stations and general attenuation model in the middle frequency band. In addition, the proposed method used statistical method to minimize the error between the measurements and the predictions. Then, the effective ground conductivity in Korea peninsular was obtained by using the proposed method. Finally, it was verified that the effective ground conductivity using the proposed method is useful to predict electric field strength in the middle frequency band.

  • 최근 디지털 TV, DVD 플레이어, 홈시어터와 같은 디지털 A/V 기기들을 통합하여 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 서비스 받는 홈 네트워크 기술에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이러한 환경에서 UpnP를 이용한 디지털 기기들의 상태를 모니터링하고, 사용자의 요청과 제어 명령을 전달하여, 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 서비스 받을 수 있도록 하는 연구는 매우 중요하다. 그러나 UPnP는 TCP/IP 기반의 프로토콜을 사용하기 때문에 사용자 인터랙션에 의한 전송 지연 시간이 발생한다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 셋탑 박스에 최적화된 UPnP AV 시스템을 구현하고 AV 컨텐츠의 효율적인 재생을 위한 UPnP프레임워크의 재생 기법을 제안한다. UPnP AV 시스템은 미디어 서버가 있고, 미디어 서버에 저장된 비디오/오디오 파일 등을 전송받아 재생하기 위한 셋탑 박스에는 컨트롤 포인트와 UPnP 미디어 렌더러의 통합 모델이 탑재된다. 이러한 기법은 다양한 기기를 제어하고 호환성을 제공하는 UPnP프레임워크가 될 수 있다.

Soil Improvement using Vertical Natural Fiber Drains (연직천연섬유배수재를 이용한 연약지반 개량)

  • A pilot test using environmentally friendly drains, was carried out to evaluate their applicability potential in the field. The pilot test site was divided into 5 different areas, with several combinations of vertical and horizontal drains installed for evaluation. Conventional natural fiber drains (FDB), new developed straw drain board (SDB) and plastic drain board (PDB) were used as vertical drains, while sand and fiber mats were used as horizontal drains. Surface settlement rates and excess pore pressure generation/dissipation tendency of PDB and FDB are almost identical except those of SDB. Cone tip resistance obtained from cone penetration test measured at the end of 1st consolidation stage for upper soft layer definitely increased irrespective of types of vertical drains. The monitoring and site investigation test data obtained at the pilot test site prove the vertical natural fiber drains can be used as substitutes of conventional plastic and sand material.
