  • EGR is an efficient method for reduction of NOx from diesel exhaust emission since it is simple to install with low cost and effective in its performance however it has demerits such as incresing wear on the moving parts of engines. stainning intake system and deteriorate lubricating oil. In order to reduce the soot contents in the recirculating gas to intake system of the engine, a proper filtering device was desined and manufactered for experiment system. It is aimed to grasp the characteristics of pollutant emissions including SFC on EGR system equipped with soot removal device.

Performance Characteristics of CNG Vehicle at Various Compression Ratios (압축비 변경에 따른 CNG차량의 성능특성 연구)

  • Natural gas is one of the promising alternative fuels for automotive vehicles, because it has lower exhaust emissions and better fuel economy characteristics than those of gasoline, and can be used in conventional gasoline engines without major modifications. In the present study, a conventional gasoline engine was modified to a CNG engine, which can be operated with CNG only, and an engine bench test was performed to calibrate the operating parameters of the engine such as air fuel ratio, spark advance, etc. at various operating conditions. The modified CNG engine, then, was installed on a commercial gasoline vehicle and a vehicle driving test on chassis dynamometer was performed to examine the fuel economy and exhaust emission characteristics. As a result, the prototype CNG vehicle showed lower exhaust emissions and better fuel economy characteristics, but slightly reduced brake horse power, compared to the gasoline vehicle.

  • 왕복동 내연 기관 실린더 내의 가스 유동은 기관의 성능 향상, 연소 개선, 배기 정화 등에 직접적 으로 영향을 미치는 인자로 되며, 최근 각종 유동의 측정 방법 및 측정 장치의 개발은 가스 유동 계측에 많은 발전을 가져 왔다. 특히 각종 열기관의 연소 성능 향상을 위한 노력은 기관의 성능 향상과 더불어 여소 배출물의 유해 성분 저감을 위한 연구에 더욱 박차를 가하게 되었다. 이에 따라서 기관의 최적 제어 운전, 자동 제어 연료 공급 및 분사장치 등에 이르기까지 많은 노력이 경주되어 왔다. 이러한 연구 개발에 못지 않게 중요한 것은 실린더 내의 연소 성능을 향상시키 는 것이며 이를 위해서는 먼저 기관 실린더 내부의 가스 유동을 밝히고, 유동의 모델링, 유동장의 계측, 연소장의 유동 측정 등의 연구가 매우 중요한 것으로 생각된다. 실린더 내의 연소 및 유 동장의 연구는 주로 연소 특성치를 관한 연구와 유동장을 중심으로 하는 흐름의 시뮬레이션을 비롯 유동장의 계측으로 크게 나눌 수 있다. 여기서는 주로 실린더 내의 가스 유동의 측정 방 법과 최근의 연구 동향에 대하여 몇 가지 측정의 보기를 중심으로 다루기로 한다.

  • In this study, the effects of oxygenated fuel such as ethylene glycol mono-normal butyl ether(EGBE) was investigated both DI and IDI diesel engine. Because EGBE includes oxygen content approximately 27.1 %, it is a kind of oxygenated fuel that the smoke emission of EGBE blending fuel is reduced remarkably compared with commercial diesel fuel. The focus of this study was to investigate the effects of the addition of oxygenated fuel to diesel fuel on the engine-out emissions and the performance. Smoke emissions of all EGBE blends were reduced substantially in comparison with conventional diesel fuel. This study showed that remarkable reduction of smoke with oxygenate blending fuels in diesel engines including DI and IDI combustion method. Besides, this study showed that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx emissions could be achieved by oxygenated fuel and EGR method that was applied to decrease NOx emissions increasing with smoke emissions reduction.

  • Due to the development of the industrial revolution, regulations on exhaust emissions have been continuously strengthened to reduce the rapidly increasing greenhouse gas emissions. The use of environmentally friendly fuels is essential to meet these regulations. Hydrogen has been attracting attention as a future environmentally friendly fuel, but due to its material properties, it faces significant challenges in handling and storage. As an alternative, ammonia has been proposed. Ammonia can be easily liquefied at room temperature compared to hydrogen and has a high energy density. In order to examine the applicability of ammonia as an engine fuel, experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of changes in combustion control parameters in a direct injection ammonia combustion engine. The experiments were conducted by varying two variables: spark timing and excessive air ratio. Observations were made on combustion stability and the trends of exhaust emissions such as nitrogen oxides and unburned ammonia under the conditions of an engine speed of 1,500 rpm and medium to high loads (brake torque of 200 Nm). By optimizing the combustion control parameters, conditions for stable combustion even when using ammonia as the sole fuel were identified, and plans are underway to apply strategies for future expansion of the operating range.

  • Owing to highly developed industries and the use of fossil fuels, environmental problems becoming becoming pressing issues globally. Therefore, a study of automobile exhaust is urgently needed. Generally, air is sucked into the engine through the intake manifold. The aims of this study were to reduce the exhaust from used cars and increase the output by removing carbon deposits, which are considered a reason for the increasing exhaust and reduction of output, and the reduction of exhaust, variation of output and stability of idle speed were analyzed. The formation of carbon deposits within the suction manifold was investigated through a test device (KD147). In the intake manifold, the exhaust cleaning effect was confirmed.

  • This paper deal with vehicle fire caused by damage of diesel particulate filter (DPF) on diesel passenger vehicles. In order to reduce particulate matters included exhaust gases, a DPF in the exhaust system were installed diesel vehicles. A DPF was broken by excessively trapped particulate matters, regeneration error with a malfunction of ECU and defect of suction system such as swirl valve. If the DPF was broken, hot exhaust gases was released to the bottom of vehicle and released hot exhaust gases lead to occur the fire through combustible materials around the exhaust system. When a fire happened in the diesel vehicle caused by damage of DPF, silicate inorganic compounds were attached to the exhaust ventilation pipe and muffler. The silicate inorganic compounds were created by DPF combustion consisting of raw material ceramics. If the silicate inorganic compounds attached to the tail pipe in the diesel passenger vehicles, its fire cause will be assumed damage of DPF.

  • Currently, exhaust gas emitted from thermal power plants and various combustion facilities that consume large amounts of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas contains high concentrations of $CO_2$ and is a major cause of global warming. Conventionally, as a countermeasure against this problem, research and development are being carried out from various fields, and it is considered to be one of the most promising methods for separating and recovering $CO_2$ in the exhaust gas. One of the reasons for the low use of carbon dioxide is oxidized among the carbon compounds and is present in the most stable state. From the viewpoint of $CO_2$ emissions, $CO_2$ immobilization technology, which converts $CO_2$ into chemically useful compounds, is considered to be more important.

  • To protect the environment, the regulation of emissions from off-road engines which are relatively neglected, is being reinforced. This paper deals with the robust design of off-road diesel engines considering the emission characteristics. Measurements of the NOx and PM levels based on the DOE were carried out. The injector hole number, injection timing and EGR rate were selected as the control factors. The orthogonal arrays table $L_9(3^3)$ was made from 2 or 3 levels for each factor and measurements of emissions were accomplished based on the table. The small-the-better SN ratio according to the Taguchi method was evaluated. The ANOVA (analysis of variance) for the SN ratio was conducted. The injection timing on the NOx emissions and the EGR rate on the PM have the largest effect on the low-load operation condition. The confidence levels of the control factors were more than 90%.

  • The characteristics of engine performance with fuel injection system in D.I. diesel engine were studied in this paper A fuel injection system has an important role in the performance and emission gas in a diesel engine. In this paper, an experimental study has been performed to verify the effect of the performance and the emission gas with the factors such as diameters of an injection nozz1e hole, diameters of an injection pipe and injection timing in the fuel injection system. The authors have obtained the results that optimizing the factors of fuel injection system is siginificant to enhance the performance of the engine system and consumption ratio of fuel, smoke, and NOx.
