Overall total length of hydraulic pipe to transport the hot water in the domestic district heating network is above 3,000 Km approximately. This long pipe network requires a lots of the transport pumping power by surface friction of fluid. In this study, the drag reduction(DR) of Amin Oxide $C_{18}$ as non-ionic surfactant according to the fluid velocity, temperature and surfactant concentration under the condition of above $80^{\circ}C$ fluid temperature were investigated experimentally. Results showed that new amin oxide $C_{18}$ surfactant had DR of maximum 30% in fluid temperature of $80^{\circ}C$ and had 15% DR in fluid temperature over $100^{\circ}$ under short time test condition. And amine oxide had 155 hours duration time to keep the DR characteristic in the fluid temperature of $80^{\circ}$ and 1000 ppm concentration. But duration time of DR was decreased when fluid temperature increased.
The purpose of this study was to develop a strainer that could protect a flow system by blocking the introduction of foreign substances into the pipe of industrial or architectural facilities. Strainers are installed at the front tip of valves, machines, or pumps in the piping line of clean water, oil, or gas. There are Y-type, U-type, and T-type strainers. The study identified problems with the Y-type strainers, develop a "C-type strainer with its inlet and outlet on a straight line" as a more improved new model, and compared them in functions in a full-scale strainer test. The study conducted a full-scale strainer test according to four situations at the flow laboratory of Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science by using the old Y-type strainer and C-type strainer 50A. The test results show that the C-type strainer had a higher capacity coefficient(Kv) than the Y-type one, recording 74.9% when there was no screen, 54.5% when there were no foreign substances in the screen, 54.2% when there was a 15% accumulation of foreign substances, and 52.4% when there was a 30% accumulation of foreign substances. The investigator conducted a test only with the 50A type due to the limitations of life-size strainers, but the results demonstrate that the C-type strainer had better flow characteristics than the Y-type one.

Coupons which have same figure as weld joint of the forged steel valves and 1 inch nominal weld thickness were manufactured using ASTM A182 F92 material. After welding with GTAW method, the welded specimens have been post-weld heat treated at $705^{\circ}C$, $735^{\circ}C$, $750^{\circ}C$, $765^{\circ}C$, $795^{\circ}C$ and $825^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour per 1 inch nominal weld thickness each (Group 1) to evaluate characteristics of welds based on various holding temperature. Indeed, 3 welded specimens were post-weld heat treated for 30 minutes, 1 hour and 2 hour (Group 2) at $735^{\circ}C$ to evaluate characteristics of welds based on various holding time. Hardness values were measured at the weld metal, heat affected zone and base metal to observe hardness change depending on the condition. As a result of the evaluation, appropriate holding temperature for PWHT is proved as $750^{\circ}C$ and $765^{\circ}C$ for 1hour per 1 inch nominal weld thickness. Indeed, holding for 1 hour per 1 inch nominal weld thickness was insufficient for PWHT effect when the holding temperature was at $735^{\circ}C$. The microstructure of post-weld heat treated weld metal was determined as tempered-martensite structure.
Purpose: Preamplifier and amplifier are very important parts for developing a portable counting or imaging gamma probe. They can be used for analyzing pulses containing energy and position information for the emitted radiations. The commercial Nuclear Instrument Modules (NIMs) can be used for processing these pulses. However, it may be improper to use NIMs in developing a portable gamma probe, because of its size and high price. The purpose of this study was to develop both preamplifier and amplifier and measure their performance characteristics. Materials and Methods: The preamplifier and amplifier were designed as a charge sensitive device and a capacitor resistor-resistor capacitor (CR-RC) electronic circuit, respectively, and they were mounted on a print circuit board (PCB). We acquired and analyzed energy spectra for Tc-99m and Cs-137 using both PCB and NIMs. Multichannel analyzer (Accuspec/A, Canberra Industries Inc., Meriden Connecticut, U.S.A) and scintillation detectors (EP-047(Bicron Saint-Gobain/Norton Industrial EP-047 (Ceramics Co., Ohio, U.S.A) with $2"{\times}2"$ NaI(T1) crystal and R1535 (Hamamatsu Photonics K.K., Electron Tube Center, Shizuoka-ken, Japan) with $1"{\times}1"$ NaI(T1) crystal were used for acquiring the energy spectra. Results: Using PCB, energy resolutions of EP-047 detectors for Tc-99m and Cs-137 were 12.92% and 5.01%, respectively, whereas R1535 showed 13.75% and 5.19% of energy resolution. Using the NIM devices, energy resolutions of EP-047 detector for Tc-99m and Cs-137 were measured as 14.6% and 7.58%, respectively. However, reliable energy spectrum of R1535 detector could not be acquired, since its photomultiplier tube (PMT) requires a specific type of preamplifier. Conclusion: We developed a special preamplifier and amplifier suitable for a small sized gamma probe that showed good energy resolutions independent of PMT types. The results indicate that the PCB can be used in developing both counting and imaging gamma probe.
Purpose: The conventional gamma camera is not ideal for scintimammography because of its large detector size (${\sim}500mm$ in width) causing high cost and low image quality. We are developing a small gamma camera dedicated for breast imaging. Materials and Methods: The small gamma camera system consists of a NaI (T1) crystal ($60 mm{\times}60 mm{\times}6 mm$) coupled with a Hamamatsu R3941 Position Sensitive Photomultiplier Tube (PSPMT), a resister chain circuit, preamplifiers, nuclear instrument modules, an analog to digital converter and a personal computer for control and display. The PSPMT was read out using a standard resistive charge division which multiplexes the 34 cross wire anode channels into 4 signals ($X^+,\;X^-,\;Y^+,\;Y^-$). Those signals were individually amplified by four preamplifiers and then, shaped and amplified by amplifiers. The signals were discriminated ana digitized via triggering signal and used to localize the position of an event by applying the Anger logic. Results: The intrinsic sensitivity of the system was approximately 8,000 counts/sec/${\mu}Ci$. High quality flood and hole mask images were obtained. Breast phantom containing $2{\sim}7 mm$ diameter spheres was successfully imaged with a parallel hole collimator The image displayed accurate size and activity distribution over the imaging field of view Conclusion: We have succesfully developed a small gamma camera using NaI(T1)-PSPMT and nuclear Instrument modules. The small gamma camera developed in this study might improve the diagnostic accuracy of scintimammography by optimally imaging the breast.
A prototype liquid scillatillator system for measurement of multiple beta-labeled mixtures was developed and its characteristic was investigated. The signal processing system consists of two photomultiplier tubes and the coincident count circuit. The characteristic of the system was analyzed using 4 beta-labeled samples $(^3H,\;^{14}C,\;^{36}Cl\;and\;^{90}Sr)$. Beta spectra from the samples were obtained without radiation shielding, and the detection limits for each nuclides were estimated based on the spectra. The estimated detection limits were compared to the legal regulation values. It is found that the liquid radioactive nuclides are detectable well below the legal regulation values.

Typically, a wedge is involved to generate effectively high inspection angle in pipe weld inspection using phased array ultrasonic technique. But the usage of this wedge for weld or access limited area can cause coverage limitation for the examination volume because of the wedge front length. Therefore, the shear wave phased array probe which can generate high inspection angle without wedge is essentially necessary. In this paper, the shear wave phased array ultrasonic probe which can generate high inspection angle designed by modeling and manufactured from the modelling result. And this shear wave probe tested whether it can detect and sizing for EDM test block that contains various depth. As results, the experimental results show that the designed shear wave phased array probe can detect and size with reliable accuracy. Therefore if this phased array probe apply in field inspection, it is expected that it show more reliable inspection result for plant structure having access limitation.

An investigation has been made on the relationship between characteristics of Acoustic Emission (AE) signal in welding flaw and the stress corrosion defect in-service for the high pressure pipe steel. In order to tackle the problem of welding flaw in high pressure pipe, specimens were made by the aid of the application of both corrosion liquid usage and a quenching method after local heating. The amplitude of signal was $60{\sim}75\;dB$ in the territory which is suspected for defect, and the specimens which only have welding flaw showed gradients of 0.034, 0.034, 0.035. Moreover, there is a certain increase in gradient even though the differences are very slight. That is, corrosion specimens showed new gradients of 0.040, 0.039, 0.041 which put welding flaw and corrosion mechanism together. After pressurizing 3 minutes, AE signal has been detected from welding flaw easily in each part of the section. It is possible to predict the occurrence and also prevent the damage of stress corrosion crack which has characteristics of cleavage fracture.

A pneumatic driving solenoid valve operates pneumatic control devices by opening/closing operating flow passage when the command is given by control system for the liquid-propellant feeding system of space launch vehicle. The simulation model of pneumatic driving solenoid valve is designed with AMESim to verify the designs and evaluate the dynamic characteristics and pneumatic behaviors of valve. To validate a valve simulation model, the simulation results of their operating durations of valve by AMESim analysis are compared with the results of experiments. In addition, the results of internal flow simulation with FLUENT are utilized to improve the accuracy of valve-modeling. Using the model, we analyze performance of valve; opening/closing pressure, operating time on various design factors; shape of control valve seat, drainage seat, rate of sealing diameter, volume of control cavity. This study will serve as one of reference guides to enhance the developmental efficiency of ventilation-relief valves with the various operating conditions, which shall be used in Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II.
In this study, we have fabricated a fiber-optic dosimeter using an organic scintillator and a plastic optical fiber. The dosimeter measure skin dose and percentage depth dose in a build-up region for an incident high energy photon beam. The scintillating light generated in the organic sensor probe embedded in a solid water phantom is guided by 30 m plastic optical fiber to a light-measuring device such as a PMT or an electrometer. In addition, using a fiber-optic dosimeter or a GAFCHROMIC EBT film, skin dose and percentage depth dose in the build-up region are measured and compared.
