Desalination Effects of Capacitive Deionization Process Using Activated Carbon Composite Electrodes (활성 탄소 복합 전극을 이용한 Capacitive Deionization 공정의 제염 효과)

  • Desalination effects of Capacitive deionization(CDI) process using activated carbon $TiO_2$ composite electrode. In this study, we made the activated carbon electrod and activated carbon $TiO_2$ composite electrode, which analysed at cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge. The results measured for discharge capacitance in cyclic voltammetry were 125 F/g in activated carbon electrode and capacitance of activatd carbon composite electrode was increased about two time, 243 F/g. The $TiO_2$ content of activated carbon composite electrode was 10 wt.%. When it was added wtih TiO2, electric double layer adsorption content was increased, so it was increased 25% in ion removal ratio of activated carbon electrode.

A Research on the Estimation Method for the SOC of the Lithium Batteries Using AC Impedance (AC 임피던스를 이용한 리튬 전지의 충전상태 추정에 관한 연구)

  • Lithium batteries are widely used in mobile electronic devices due to their higher voltage and energy density, lighter weight and longer life cycle compared to other secondary batteries. In particular, high demand for lithium batteries is expected for electric cars. In case of lithium batteries used in electric cars, driving distance must be calculated accurately and discharging should not be done below the level of making it impossible to crank. Therefore, accurate information about state of charge (SOC) becomes an essential element for reliable driving. In this paper, a new method of estimating the SOC of lithium polymer batteries by using AC impedance is proposed. In the proposed method, parameters are extracted by fitting a curve of impedance measured at each frequency on the equivalent impedance model and extracted parameters are used to estimate SOC. Experiments were conducted on lithium polymer batteries with similar capacities made by different manufacturers to prove the validity of the proposed method.

  • $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ (LTO) is an anode material for lithium ion battery, and the cycle performance is very good. The volume change of LTO during insertion and deinsertion of lithium ion is very small, so the cyclibility is very high. In this experiment graphene and CNT was added to increase the low conductivity of LTO which is the weak point of LTO. When graphene was located on the surface of LTO the conductivity did not increase so much because of the nano size LTO. Addition of CNT increased the conductivity because of the formation of the conducting network between LTO particle and the graphene. Carbon material addition was changed before and after the LTO manufacturing, and the capacity and the cyclibility was compared.

Synthesis and Electrochemical Properties of $LiNi_{1-y-z}(M_1)_y(M_2)_zO_2$ for the Development of Cathode Materials with Large Capacity (고용량 양극재료 개발을 위한 $LiNi_{1-y-z}(M_1)_y(M_2)_zO_2$의 합성과 전기화학적 특성)

  • [ $LiNi_{0.995}Al_{0.005}O_2$ ], $LiNi_{0.990}Ti_{0.010}O_2$ and $LiNi_{0.0990}Al_{0.005}Ti_{0.005}O_2$ were synthesized with a combustion method by calcining in an $O_2$ stream at $750^{\circ}C$ for 36 h. The X-ray diffraction patterns of these synthesized samples showed $-NaFeO_2$ structure of rhombohedral system(space group; $R{\bar{3}}\;m$) with no evidence of impurities. Among these samples, $LiNi_{0.995}Al_{0.005}O_2$ exhibited comparatively high first discharge capacity and discharge capacity, and the best cycling performance. $LiNi_{0.995}Al_{0.005}O_2$ had the first discharge capacity of 165.2 mA h/g and a discharge capacity of 116.7 mA h/g at the 50th cycle at 0.1C rate. It showed the first discharge capacity of 141.0 mA h/g and a discharge capacity of 93.5 mA h/g at the 50th cycle at 0.5C rate.

Electrochemical Characteristics of Electrolyte Additives and Nano-Pb/AC Anode for Ultra Batteries (울트라 배터리 용 전해액 첨가제와 Nano-Pb/AC 음극의 전기화학적 특성)

  • In this study, the electrochemical properties of nano-Pb/activated carbon (nano-Pb/AC) composites and electrolyte additives were examined to improve the performance of ultra batteries. Physical properties of the prepared nano-Pb/AC composites were analyzed using FE-SEM, TEM, XPS and BET. The electrochemical performances of ultra batteries were performed by cycle, rate performance and impedance tests. The cycling performance of nano-Pb/AC (Pb : 9 wt%) coated ultra battery increased by 150% with respect to the lead acid one, and the discharge specific capacity increased by 119-122% for 1-5 C rate tests. As a result of the impedance test, it was confirmed that the internal resistance decreased as the nano lead content increased. The cycle performance of the ultra battery containing 0.45 vol% electrolyte additives showed 140% longer than that of no electrolyte additives.

Structural and Electrochemical Properties of Spin Coated LiCoO2 Cathode Thin Film in Lithium Secondary Batteries (스핀코팅법에 의한 리튬 2차전지용 산화물 양전극 LiCoO2 박막의 구조 및 전기화학적 특성에 대한 연구)

  • The LiCoO2 thin films were prepared on the Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate by spin coating using citrate sol. The citrate sol was spin-coated on substrate and dried at 380oC for 15 min. to evaporate the solvents and remove the organic materials. The as-deposited films were annealed at 750oC for 10 min. in air for crystallization. The X-ray diffraction patterns for the film have been indexed hexagonal system with space group R3m. The active area of LiCoO2 films for electrochemical test was about 11cm2. A Li foil and 1M LiClO4 in propylene carbonate(PC) and ethylene carbonate(EC) (1:1)were used as an anode and an electrolyte, respectively. The galvanostatic charge-discharge test was carried out at constant current density ranging from 5 A/cm2 in the voltage window between 4.2 and 3.0 V. The first discharge capacity of the film is 0.35Ah/cm2-m. The cycling behavior of the LiCoO2 film is also reported.

Characterization of electrochemical behaviour for supercapacitor based on porous activated carbon composite with various contents of metal-organic framework(MOF) (금속유기골격체(Metal-organic Framework)의 함량에 따른 다공성 활성탄소 복합재료 기반 슈퍼커패시터의 전기화학적 거동 분석)

  • We have fabricated the supercapacitor composed of porous activated carbon, metal-organic framework (MOF) with polymer based solid state electrolyte as a "ion gel" and characterized its electrochemical behaviour as a function of the MOF contents. The electrochemical properties of the supercapacitor were analyzed via cyclic voltammetry(CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and galvanostatic charge/discharge test. As a results, the supercapacitor based on porous activated carbon/MOF composite showed the highest capacitance value at 0.5 wt% of MOF contents and decreased capacitance with increase MOF contents over the 0.5 wt%. Consequently, the porous activated carbon/MOF composite based supercapacitor is applicable to various aspect for energy storage device.

진공 플라즈마 용사코팅시 분말 이송가스 유량이 적층효율에 미치는 영향

  • 열플라즈마는 주로 아크 방전에 의해 발생시킨 전자, 이온, 중성입자(원자 및 분자)로 구성된 부분 이온화된 기체로, 국소열평형상태를 유지하여 구성입자가 모두 수천에서 수만도에 이르는 같은 온도를 갖는 고속의 제트 화염 형태를 이루고 있다. 이렇게 고온, 고열용량, 고속, 다량의 활성입자를 갖는 열플라즈마의 특성을 이용하여, 종래 기술에서는 얻을 수 없는 다양하고 효율적인 산업적 이용이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 용사코팅은 노즐 출구를 통해서 외부로 방출되는 열 플라즈마 화염을 이용하는 것으로 이 화염의 와류 특성으로 인하여 외기의 가스가 화염내부로 침투하는 특성을 가진다. 이러한 현상은 열원의 냉각효과 외에도 외기를 구성하는 기체 분자의 내부 유입을 의미하는 것으로 대기 상태에서 공정이 이루어진다면 열원 내로 유입되는 대기 내의 산소가 모재 표면과 반응하여 산화가 진행된다. 이러한 산화과정은 용사 코팅의 품질을 저하시키는 요인이 되므로, W, Ti 등과 같은 반응성이 높은 재료의 코팅은 산화과정을 방지하기 위하여 진공에서 코팅을 하여야만 한다. 진공 플라즈마용사코팅은 진공 또는 저압의 불활성 분위기 중에서 열플라즈마 화염에 용사재료를 투입하여 플라즈마 화염 내부에서 순간적으로 이를 용융시킨 후 고속으로 분출, 모재에 적층시키는 코팅공정이다. 이때 분말상의 용사재료를 고속으로 화염 중심에 투입하여 최대 에너지 전달이 이루어지도록 하는 것이 적층효율 및 코팅품질을 향상에 필수적이다. 하지만 플라즈마 화염 내부를 고속으로 이동하는 입자의 온도와 속도 및 궤적을 측정하여 제어하는 것은 매우 어렵기 때문에, 통상 형성된 코팅의 구조와 두께로부터 경험적으로 파라미터를 결정하는 것이 일반적이다. 본 연구에서는 초고속 레이저 카메라와 이미지 분석용 소프트웨어를 이용하여 플라즈마 화염내의 비행입자 궤적을 추적하고, 이를 통해 분말 이송가스의 유량이 코팅 효율 및 미세구조에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 플라즈마 화염은 중심부가 가장 높은 온도와 속도를 가지고 있기 때문에, 분말 이송가스의 유량이 적을 경우 투입된 분말은 단지 플라즈마 화염의 상부 경계면을 지나는 궤적을 갖게된다. 이로 인해 분말의 용융이 충분히 이루어지지 않아 적층 효율이 낮고 미용융 입자 및 기공이 많은 미세구조를 보였다. 이송가스 유량을 증가시키게 되면, 분말의 궤적은 플라즈마 화염의 중심부를 지나게 되어 적층 효율이 증가하고 미세구조 또한 개선되었다. 하지만 이송가스 유량이 지나치게 클 경우, 투입된 분말 입자는 플라즈마 화염을 조기에 관통하게 되어 비행궤적은 온도와 속도가 낮은 영역에 형성되었다.

Studies on Formation of Passivation Film on KMFC Anode with Initial Charge Temperature (탄소 부극에서 초기 충전온도별 부동태 피막 형성에 대한 연구)

  • When carbon electrode is used as an anode in Li ion battery, passivation film forms on the electrode surface during the initial charge process due to so called Solid-Electrolyte Interphase (SEI). The passivation film formed by solvent decomposition during the initial charge process affects charge/discharge capacity. In this paper, 1 M $LiPF_6,EC:DEC$ (1 : 1, volume ratio) electrolyte with $Li_2CO_3$, at various temperatures, the electrochemical characteristics of passivation film formed on Kawasaki Mesophase Fine Carbon electrode surface were investigated by using chronopotentiometry, cyclic voltammetry, and impedance spectroscopy. Experimental observations indicated that as solvent decomposition occurred, the decomposition voltage was strongly dependent on ionic conductivity, which was low in the process at low temperature. The impedance of passivation film formed during the initial charge process, were dependent on the temperature.

Electrochemical Property of CNT/Co3O4 Nanocomposite for Anode of Lithium Batteries (리튬 이차전지 음극용 CNT/Co3O4 나노복합체의 전기화학적 특성)

  • In this article, we report the fabrication and characterization of $CNT/Co_3O_4$ nanocomposite for lithium ion batteries. We expected that the composition with CNT is effective method to compensate for the low electronic conductivity of $Co_3O_4$ and suppress the stress from phase transition of $Co_3O_4$ during cycling. $CNT/Co_3O_4$ nanocomposites were composed of nano-sized $Co_3O_4$ particles, which were homogeneously distributed on the surface of CNTs. The $CNT/Co_3O_4$ electrode presented higher capacity than commercial graphite, good rate capability and stable cyclic performance. This implies that the $CNT/Co_3O_4$ could be a promising anode material for lithium ion batteries.
