A triplet line array has a capability for solving left/right ambiguity problem and high directivity of line array. For this, high computational powers and correlation between nearby sensors must be considered. Hardware powers are dramatically increased, so various adaptive beamforming techniques and signal processing techniques can be adopted for large triplet line array. To investigate the optimum signal processing method and improve the target detection capability, we need to analyze the noise correlation among the triplet line array sensors in real environment. In this paper we analyze the experimental data in the East Sea, investigate noise correlation between three hydrophones in triplet sensors, among the triplet sensors and time varying properties. Based on the acquired results, it is possible to verify some information for beamforming and signal processing methods with considering the properties of the triplet line array.
The discrimination studies between earthquakes and underground nuclear explosions have been carried out by various seismologists(Nuttli and Kim, 1976; Dahiman and Israelson, 1977; Masse, 1981). The discrimination between local microearthquakes and artificial underground explosions(epicentral distance not greater than 400Km), however, has not been actively studied so far in the light of seismological aspects. Futhermore this kind of research has never been performed in Korea even if it is of great importance for IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) to clearly analyze the military nuclear power of North Korea at present. This research has been carried out by using some of the artificial underground explosions(about 100 events) have occurred in North Korea for the last six years. The azimuths, apparent incidence angles, epicentral distances and locations are determined using a single station of 3 - component data. The detection, location and identification are performed through the polarization and the bandpass filtering. This technique can be also applied to study the inhomogeneous crustal structure finding the converted waves.

The radar operated to detect/track aircraft targets is divided into a search radar that operates while the antenna rotating device rotates for the purpose of detecting the target according to the mission characteristics, and a tracking radar that periodically steers and tracks a beam to the predicted position of the target. The tracking radar has a shorter target information acquisition preiod than the search radar. Due to this characteristic, the tracking accuracy is better than that of the search radar, but as the prediction error increases due to the speed error at the beginning of the tracking, there are many cases in which tracking fails at the beginning of tracking due to failure to perform beam steering normally. In this paper, in order to solve the above-mentioned problems, we propose an algorithm for improving the accuracy of track initiation using radial velocity measurements in addition to the position of the measured, and confirm the performance of the proposed algorithm by comparing with the two point differential algorithm
In this paper, we propose shading functions to the appropriate focused beamforming for near-field target estimation. This near field shading functions are based on Chebychev and Manning windows. In order to obtain the optimum sensor weighting values with the help of the proposed shading technique, we assume that the sensor positions associated to the non-uniformly distributed array are precisely known. We calculate a series of sensor weighting values from the FFT operation of given shading functions in time domain. By applying the shading weights on the sensor array, we can see that the level of sidelobe becomes diminished and the performance of estimating range and azimuth gets improved. In addition, we propose a non-uniform structure in terms of frequency bands, which may minimize the attenuation of incoming signals.

This paper describes on the system and method for automatically tracking and real-time monitoring the position of target ships relative to the own ship using a PC based radar system that displays radar images and electronic charts together on a single PC screen. This system includes a simulator for generating the GGA and VTG information of target ships and a simulator for generating the TTM and OSD outputs from a ARPA radar and then host computer accepts NMEA0183 sentences on the maneuvering information of target ships from these simulators. The results obtained are summarized as follows;1. The system developed this study can be used as a range finder for measuring the distance between two ships and as a device for providing the maneuvering information such as distance and bearing to target ships from own ship on ECS screen. 2. From the result of position tracking for a selected target ship tracked with an update rate of 5 seconds using the $\alpha$-$\beta$ tracker, we concluded that the smoothing effect by the $\alpha$-$\beta$tracker was very effective and stable except in the time interval until about one minute after the target is detected. 3. From the fact that the real-time maneuvering information of tracked ship targets via a local area network (LAN) from a host computer installed a radar target extractor was successfully transferred to various monitoring computers of ship, we concluded that this system can be used as a sub-monitoring system of ARPA radar.
Typical underwater acoustic transducers detect only the magnitude of an acoustic pressure and they have the limitation of not being able to recognize the direction of the sound signal. Hence, the authors of this paper proposed a new vector sensor structure based on Tonpilz transducers that could detect both the magnitude and the direction of a sound pressure. In the proposed structure, the piezoceramic ring was divided into four segments, and proper combination of the output voltages of the segments in response to the external sound pressure could provide the information on the orientation of the sound source. In this paper, a Tonpilz transducer has been fabricated to have the proposed structure and its characteristics has been measured to confirm the validity of the proposed structure.

To detect the ground moving target, forward-looking SAR images obtained from the FMCW radar can be exploited. However, the quality of the SAR image is deteriorated due to the turbulence or fluctuation because of the flight path condition during the missile movement. We herein propose an entropy-minimizing autofocus method to compensate the motion error of forward-looking SAR. In particular, owing to the geometry of the forward-looking SAR, the motion error affects the SAR image in the two-dimensional (2D) form (azimuth and time axis). Therefore, we suggest a 2D autofocus method for the motion compensation.

In location finding system using spaced multi-sensor, Depending on the signal source's location and the location of the sensors Position estimation accuracy is determined. This phenomenon is called GDOP effect. and to minimize these effects, research is needed on how. In this paper, I will describe how to minimize GDOP effect, estimating GDOP using angle of arrivals of multi sensors, and removing sensor error factor.
Two specimens of mortar containing artificial slit and Geochang granite containing the straight notch were selected to be used in this research. Source mechanism of micro-crack by radiation pattern based on dislocation the-ory was estimated by the first motion of longitudinal wave and spatial distribution between the location of transducers for monitoring acoustic emission and source coordinates determined by the application of the least square method. Result of analysis showed that the orientation of dislocation surfaces due to shear dislocation and tensile dislocation squares considerably with crack direction visually observed. The ultimate goal of this study is to provide fundamental information for source mechanism of micro-crack within materials.

Brightness temperature spectra acquired from FTIR(Fourier Transform Infrared)-SCADS (Standoff Chemical Agent Detection System) could be available for detection and identification of the chemical agents and pollutants from different background. IR spectrum range of 770 to 1350 $cm^{-1}$ is corresponding to "atmospheric window". A 2-dimensional(2D) brightness temperature spectrum was drawn from combining each data point through automatic continuous scanning of FTIR along with altitude and azimuth. At higher altitude, temperature of background was decreased but scattering effect of atmospheric gases was increased. Increase in temperature difference between background and blackbody in SCADS at higher temperature causes to increases in peak intensity of $SF_6$. This approach shows us a possibility that 2D visual information is acquired from scanning data with a single FTIR-SCADS.
