The development of the digital compression technology and the broadcasting receiver's processing power make it possible to apply a multi-view function to the broadcasting services. The multi-view function is usually utilized to provide simultaneously several programs to viewers or to implement a multi-angle service of a sports program that allows a viewer to choose a video of his/her prefer viewpoint. The paper proposes an integrated method for utilizing a multi-view function in the digital broadcasting environment in which more than 100 programs are on air and there may be various data services which want to use multi-view video clips. For the purpose, a method of composing and transmitting multi-view videos and related information has been devised and a Java API to utilize the rapid editing function of a decoding chip-set has been implemented to clip, resize, and display parts of the multi-view videos.

It has become five years since comprehensive programming licenses were rendered in Korea. Allocating a lion's share of their air time on live news and news commentaries, those channels have established a unique live production system or a broadcasting system which is heavily live production-oriented, to be exact. The live commentaries are filled with a mixture of news flashes, conventional news commentaries, and debates. Those channels get their news and commentary programs made through subsidiaries' where production directors and studio staffs belong. They, being very sensitive about viewer rating, tend to be aggressive about reruns of highly rated programs and they do not even seem to care when the regular programs actually went out. This kind of reckless strategy to pursue a higher viewer rating could limit not only new programming attempts but also exposure diversity.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the broadcasting industry has been greatly affected, to the extent that the footprint of travel programs has disappeared. Although travel programs have been back on the air since 2022, there remains a task of recovering the stagnant desire for travel. Based on a study that travel programs have a positive impact on viewers' travel intentions, this study examined a data service that provides preferred additional information on travel programs, considering the broadcasting environment of satellite broadcasters that transmit multiple travel programs through various channels. Specifically, preferred additional information was investigated for travel programs of various genres and formats, and a feature model based on FODA was designed to be used when the satellite broadcaster decides the data service configuration. In addition, the necessary information for operating the data service was defined based on the feature model, and a method of transmitting it using the DVB-S SI, a domestic satellite broadcasting standard, was devised. The feasibility of this study was also confirmed using a DVB-MHP based data service prototype.

디지털방송은 다수의 채널 공급을 가능하게 하는데, 이러한 다채널 환경에서는 각 채널로 일일이 전환하지 않고도 어느 채널에 어떤 정보가 방송되고 있는지를 일목요연하게 파악 할 수 있는 전자 프로그램 가이드(EPG : Electronic Program Guide)가 필연적으로 요구된다. 본 논문은 EPG의 한 구현방법으로서 방송을 통해 TV에 전달되어 실행되는 Downloadable EPG를 설명하고 우리나라 디지털 위성방송 표준인 DVB-MHP규약을 따르는 구현방법과 구현결과를 기술하였다. 본 논문은 데이터 방송과 EPG의 구현에 관련된 참고 기술자료가 미비한 현실에서 디지털 방송의 EPG 개발자들이나 응용프로그램(application) 개발자들이 DVB-MHP 규약에 따라 다양한 종류의 EPG를 개발하는데 도움이 될 것이다.

자막방송은 지상파 방송 수신을 통해 시청 가능한 자막 서비스를 의미하며, 현재 모든 지상파 방송 프로그램에 대해 자막방송이 제공되고 있다. 자막방송을 위한 자막 데이터는 일반적으로 속기를 통해 입력되며, 방송에서 속기를 통해 작성된 자막 데이터는 파일로 저장되어 해당 방송 프로그램에 대한 메타데이터로 활용되거나, 동일한 프로그램이 재방송으로 편성될 경우의 자막방송에 활용될 수 있다. 하지만 재방송의 경우 편집으로 인해 본방송과 내용상의 차이가 발생할 수 있으므로 편집이 발생한 부분을 포착하여 자막 데이터에도 동일한 편집을 적용한 후에 자막방송으로 활용되어야 한다. 따라서 재방송 송출에 기존 자막파일이 활용될 경우 반드시 전처리를 통해 자막과 영상의 내용을 일치시키는 과정이 필요하다. 그러나 방송 현장의 재방송 편성/송출 워크플로우에서는 자막 전처리를 위해 필요한 정보들이 갖춰지지 않는 예외적인 경우가 종종 발생하기 때문에 이를 해결하기 위한 방법이 필요하다. 이에 본 논문에서는 방송 현업의 재방송 편성/송출 워크플로우에서 파일기반 자막송출 기능을 안정적으로 사용하기 위해 자막 전처리 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 오류들에 대한 대처방법을 설명하고, 그 방법을 구현한 시스템을 소개한다.

최근 디지털 TV 방송의 활성화에 힘입어 수많은 채널을 통한 TV 프로그램 방송이 가능하게 되었다. 이로 인해 디지털 TV 시청자들은 신문 또는 TV 가이드와 같은 기존 인쇄매체를 통해 자신이 원하는 TV 프로그램 스케줄을 얻기가 사실상 매우 어렵게 되었다. 이와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위해 디지털 TV 환경에서는 전자 프로그램 가이드(EPG: Electronic Program Guide)를 제공한다. 현재 제공되고 있는 EPG 서비스들은 대개 디지털 TV 화면 또는 각 방송사 웹 사이트 그리고 이동 단말기 등을 통해서 서비스 되고 있다. 대부분의 기존 연구들은 EPG 정보를 화면상에 시각적으로 제공하는 측면에만 초점을 두고 있다. 하지만 실질적으로 사용자 입장에서는 원하는 방송 프로그램의 스케줄 정보를 찾기 위해서 수백 채널에 달하는 방송 프로그램에 대한 정보를 일일이 검색하는 것은 매우 힘든 일이다. 게다가 사용자가 원하는 키워드를 직접 입력하는 방식 또한 사용자를 매우 번거롭게 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 EPG 서비스 방식에 VoiceXML 관련 기술을 접목하여 이동 단말기상에서 간단한 음성입력을 통해 EPG 서비스를 제공받을 수 있는 음성 인터페이스를 제안한다.

As the nonlinear viewing patterns are getting generalized, the needs for VOD service of consumers are increasing in TV, webTV. But today's VOD system is all automated, except the part for posting contents. This study proposes the method for automation of the content posting. For this we analyzed the broadcast program structures by genre in order to detect the transition point between the advertisement and the contents. It was found that regular black frames were set in the transition during fade in and out. We propose an efficient approach to automatically detect the black frames using RGB values of each frame that enable VOD content posting and replace an advertisement in VOD service.

본 논문의 목표는 개인용 리치미디어 플레이어에 대한 연구이다. 개인용 리치미디어 플레이어는 아날로그 지상파, 케이블 방송, DVD VCR등과 같은 미디어로부터 아날로그 컨텐츠를 받아 H.264 Encoder를 상용하여 디지털화하여 유무선 인터넷을 통해 개인에게 직접 재전송 해 주는 플랫폼이다. 전 세계적으로 아날로그 방송을 디지털 방송으로 전환하고 있으나, 아날로그 방송을 시청하는 사람들은 상당히 많다. 대부분의 시청자들은 집에서 TV를 통해 프로그램을 시청하고 있다. 광대역 인터넷이 일반화 되면서 많은 사람들이 인터넷상에서 UCC나 VOD서비스 같은 멀티미디어 서비스를 이용하고있다. 하지만, 이러한 서비스들은 실시간으로 방송되는 프로그램을 서비스해주지는 못하고있다. 본 논문에서 개발한 개인형 리치미디어 플레이어는 실시간 방송 프로그램을 H.264로 인코딩하여 시청자가 인터넷에 접속할 수 있는 곳이면 어디든지 인터넷상으로 방송 프로그램은 즐길 수 있다. 본 논문에서 개발한 플랫폼은 ARM CORE와 H.264 Encoder를 사용하여 실시간으로 방송 컨텐츠를 인코딩하여 RTP, RTSP Protocol을 이용하여 유무선으로 전송하게 된다. 운영체제는 uClinux 26이고 Streaming Server는 실시간으로 네트워크 상황을 인지하여 다이나믹하게 전송 레이트를 조절함으로써 QoS를 구현하고 있다.

본 논문은 국내의 지상파 디지털 방송 표준인 ATSC표준을 이용하여 디지털 방송 시 제공되는 PSIP (ATSC A/65) 정보를 기반으로 한 전자프로그램가이드를 구현하는 시스템을 제안한다. 이 시스템은 PSIP 파서를 이용하여 방송국으로부터 수신된 MPEG-2 트랜스포트 스트림에서 PSIP 정보를 파싱하고, 이를 토대로 전자프로그램가이드에 필요한 정보를 만들어 DTV에서 보여주게 된다. 일반적으로 방송국으로부터 제공되는 PSIP 정보는 프로그램정보를 비롯하여 다양한 형태로 데이터 방송에 응용될 수 있는 정보를 포함할 수 있는데, 본 논문에서는 임베디드 리눅스 기반의 홈서버 시스템에 적용하여 구현하였다.

지상파방송국들인 KBS, MBC, SBS 등의 방송국들은 다양한 프로그램들을 생산하고 방송하는 미디어 스테이션의 역할을 하고 있으며 TV조선과 같은 종합편성채널 및 케이블 채널이 가세하여 다양한 형태의 방송프로그램을 쏟아내고 있는 현실에서 시청자는 리모콘이라는 강력한 무기를 가지고 방송국들을 심판하고 선택하게 되는데 방송국들은 선택받기 위한 노력으로 프로그램의 질적가치를 높혀서 시청자들의 만족감을 높이려는 노력과 더불어 방송국 자체의 정체성을 확고이하고 이를 알리는데 홍보의 중점을 두려하는데 이것이 스테이션 아이덴티티에 각 지상파방송국들이 투자하고 있는 이유이기도 하며 이 스테이션 아이덴티티를 통해서 자사의 이미지를 제고하고 프로그램의 안정성을 확보하려는 방송국들의 전략을 볼 수 있다.
