New feeding structures using linearly and exponentially tapered lines to planar microstrip resonators are proposed. These can overcome the design problems from coupling losses and impedance mismatching by increasing the coupling efficiency. The variation of its feeding angle is evaluated for the insertion loss and bandwidth and the feedline length is optimized at ${\lambda}_g$/2. The ring resonators and patches fed by the tapered line have been designed and implemented. The experimental results show that the insertion loss is enhanced by about 7 dB. Both rings and antennas are better matched, without disturbing the single-mode resonance or distorting their radiation pattern

In this paper, we have proposed a hexagonal patch UWB antenna with a band notch characteristic where the notch band of 5.15 ~ 5.85 GHz band of WLAN was induced by inserting a circular slit in the patch. The impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna meet the band width criteria of UWB communication system where is mentioned as frequencies range form 3.1 ~ 11.8 GHz. The characteristic band at 5.2 ~ 5.8 GHz notch band was observed. The radiation pattern of the antenna shows a directinal radiation pattern at $0^{\circ}$ and $180^{\circ}$ in XZ-plane and YZ-plane is an omni-directional pattern, respectively. In addition, it is observed that increase in frequency results in increases of the antenna gain whereas the notch band section is decreased. The proposed antenna was designed TRF-45 substrate with thickness of 1.62 mm, a loss tangent of 0.0035, a relative permittivity of 4.5 and designed were used Ansys Inc. HFSS.

In this paper, we proposed a wideband design of planar inverted-F antenna(PIFA) using two-layer, patches and modified ground structure. The antenna consists of two layer patches with common feed and modified ground plane to control resonance frequency and antenna input impedance. The measured bandwidth is 1,492 MHz(BW: 67.7 %, 1,457${\sim}2,949$ MHz) for VSWR<2, and 1,170 MHz(BW: 21 %, 4,970${\sim}$6,140 MHz) for VSWR<2.5. It covers service bands of DCS1800, DCS1900, UMTS(WCDMA), WiBro, WLAN(IEEE 802.11b), satellite DMB. WLAN(IEEE 802.11a) in Korea and radiation patterns shows constant figure with frequency change.

This paper proposes an antenna of the fork type structure that operates in the UWB (Ultra Wide Band) frequency band (3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz). The proposed antenna is attached a circular patch in order to obtain the UWB band characteristics to the fork-type patch antenna. The ground plane is implemented in a arc-shape configuration. The effect of various parameters of the modified fork type radiating patch and partial arc ground plane for UWB operation is investigated. The proposed antenna is made of $34.0{\times}50.0{\times}1.0mm^3$ and is fabricated on the permittivity 4.4 FR-4 substrate. The experiment results shown that the proposed antenna obtained the -10 dB impedance bandwidth 8200 MHz (2.7 ~ 10.9 GHz) covering the UWB bands. This result satisfied the characteristics of ultra-wideband and the proposed antenna will be applicable to an ultra wideband system.

The radiation characteristics of a microstrip circularly-polarized aperture-patch $8\times8$ array antenna are investigated at X-band. The radiator consists of a truncated square aperture on the ground plane with an inclined rectangular patch inside, and it is coupled by a microstrip line on the opposite side of the ground. The element spacing of the array was chosen as $0.8\lambda_0$so as to minimize the mutual coupling and maximize the gain. A corporate feed network was employed to distribute the power to each element through four Wilkinson and two T-junction dividers. Measurement results for the $8\times8$ array at 10 GHz showed a directivity of 26.3 dBi, a gain of 22.2 dBi, an axial ratio of 2.97 dB, and a side lobe level of -12.7dB. It was observed that when the array size increases, the directivity increases while the efficiency decreases.

In this paper, miniaturized ${\lambda}/4$ folded microstrip antennas is presented for parking monitoring base station system. The proposed antenna reduced a width of the radiating element for miniaturizing a size and we changed an aperture such as folded shape for reducing a length of the antenna by the pertubation effect by reducing a width of the antenna. Finally, the ${\lambda}/2$ length of the folded microstrip antenna to ${\lambda}/4$ folded microstrip antenna was miniaturized by reducing the length. The proposed antenna was designed to receive 425 MHz of center frequency that can be used without permission. Dimensions are $134mm{\times}143.85mm{\times}20.1mm$($0.19{\lambda}{\times}0.2{\lambda}{\times}0.028{\lambda}$, ${\lambda}$ is wavelength at 425 MHz) that are compared with basic microstrip patch antenna miniaturized 97.2%. Also, Measured -10 dB bandwidth was 2.44 MHz(0.57%). On the other hand, measured radiation patterns was 1.82 dBi at E-plane $15^{\circ}$.

This paper proposes an antenna incorporating a bandstop filter to miniaturize the rectenna used for wireless power transmission with the emerging interest these days. To suppress the harmonics that can be re-radiated, this paper proposes a microstrip patch antenna that can suppress the harmonics while maintaining the size of the antenna by inserting a U-slot, which acts as a bandstop filter, on the ground plane of the antenna. As a result, S11 of the second harmonic(4.6GHz) was reduced from -5.61dB to -0.338dB and the efficiency was suppressed significantly from 29.76% to 1.5%. In addition, the maximum gain was reduced to -12dBi from 2.89dBi. On the other hand, at the fundamental frequency (2.45GHz), the S11 value was reduced from -18 dB to -15 dB, and the efficiency was reduced slightly from 68.2% to 60%. In the case of applying a microstrip antenna combined with the proposed bandstop filter to a rectenna, it is believed that the harmonics that degrade the performance of the rectenna can be removed effectively while reducing the large area occupied by harmonic suppression.

This paper reports the transparent electrode, which would be applied to transparent displays and smart glasses. Herein, a squared metal mesh with the most widely used copper wire in microwaves is studied for the alternating thin-film-type transparent and conducting indium tin oxide(ITO), with a low conductivity(sheet resistance > $5{\Omega}/sq.$). The electromagnetic performance of a patch antenna with metal mesh is analyzed. This paper presents the results of the optical(OT, optical transparent) and electrical(sheet resistance) characteristics of a squared metal mesh, which is a basic design. To improve the OT, copper wire(w=0.2 mm) is used in fabricating the squared metal mesh and the relationship between the OT and the antenna performance(radiation gain, radiation pattern) was analyzed according to the mesh size(l=1, 2 mm). The measurement results show that the antenna performance and the optical characteristic are in inverse proportion to each other. In real applications, the optical and electrical characteristics, and the costs of production are to be considered.

In this paper, newly proposed dual-band microstrip antennas using stacked inverted-L-shaped parasitic elements are presented for GPS $L_1(1.575GHz)$ and $L_2(1.227GHz)$ bands. For making dual band which has large interval, ${\lambda}/4$($L_1$ band) inverted-L-shaped parasitic elements were stacked at both side of radiation apertures on the half-wavelength($L_2$ band) patch antennas. The resonance in the parasitic elements occurs through coupling to the patch. Next, due to using circular polarization at GPS, ${\lambda}/4$($L_1$ band) inverted-L-shaped parasitic elements was stacked using sequential rotation technique on the patch and both side of the diagonal corners of the antenna were eliminated to make dual-band circular polarization. The designed circular polarized antenna's dimensions are $0.43{\lambda}L{\times}0.43{\lambda}L{\times}0.06{\lambda}L$ (${\lambda}L$ is the free-space wavelength at 1.227 GHz). Measured -10 dB bandwidths was 120 MHz(7.6%) and 82.5 MHz(6.7%) at GPS $L_1$ and $L_2$ bands. and 3 dB axial ration bandwidths are 172 MHz(10.9%) and 25 MHz(2.03%), respectively. All of these cover the respective required system bandwidths. Within each of the designed bands, broadside radiation patterns were observed.
