  • The design, fabrication, and an experimental implementation of the strip patch antenna coupled with a H-shaped aperture arc presented in this paper. The proposed antenna has the wide bandwidth, high gain, and low cross-polarization levels. We measured the VSWR, smith chart impedance characteristic, co/cross polarization pattern, gain, and so on. The measured bandwidth of this antenna is 47.1 %. To reduce the back lobe and increase the gain, when the reflector is used, cross polarization level is below -18.2dB at E-plane and below 25.7 dB at H -plane. The maximum gain at 2.05 GHz is also 10.4 dBi and the 3 dB gain bandwidth with center frequency at 2.17 GHz is 24 %, which is the wide bandwidth. This antenna can find applications in mobile communication, wireless LAN, RF communication system, and so on.

  • In this paper, the slot coupled stacked microstrip antenna, which has wide bandwidth characteristics because of the double tuning effects from the interactions between two patches and feeding slot and improves distortions of radiation patterns due to spurious radiation from feeder, is analyzed. For the analy- sis Green function in the spectrum domain and Galerkin method is applied with an accurate analysis mode for slot coupled feeding structure using the scattering analysis method. The basis functions are 3 EB modes for patches and 5 PWS modes for feeder. The slot coupled stacked microstrip antennas are designed and fabricated with the center frequency of 11.5 Ghz and 12.0 GHz. The experimental results show the wide bandwidth characteristics of 1.9 ~ 2.2 GHz and agree well with the simulation results which have 15~20% bandwidth.

  • In this paper, an active antenna module operating in the 60 GHz band is designed and fabricated by combining a commercial transmitter chip and patch array antenna. The designed module is composed of an antenna PCB and a PCB with a transmitter chip. The frequency-control and bias-control signals are applied to the transmitter chip, using an Arduino kit. A baseband I/Q signal is also applied to the chip. A ring hybrid balun converts the output of the transmitter module to a single output, which is the output of the transmitter chip that outputs a differential output. The output is delivered to the $2{\times}4$ microstrip patch array antenna PCB as a micro-computer connector. The radiation pattern of the millimeter-wave signal of the final output is compared with the simulation results. The measured radiation patterns of the fabricated active antenna module confirm that the positions of the 3 dB beam width and null point agree well with the simulation results.

  • Recently, mechanically beam-steering microstrip patch array antenna using MEMS technology is developed and tested. In this paper as an application of developed antenna, new radiation pattern synthesis method far beam-steering antenna without phase-shifter is proposed, and applied to synthesis of desired beam shape. Niching genetic algorithm using Restricted Competition Selection (RCS) is used for radiation pattern optimization. This approach can be applied to design of array antenna for meet EMC standard and through proposed method specific beam shapes can be synthesized.

  • An inductive loaded microstrip patch antenna using aperture coupled feeding is designed and an impedance bandwidth enhancement method using a shunt stub is investigated. The -10 dB impedance bandwidth of the AIMPA with a shunt stub is increased up to about 5.51 %. The impedance bandwidth of the corresponding AIMPA without a shunt stub is 2.4 %. The increase of the impedance bandwidth of the AIMPA with a shunt stub is about 129.6 % compared to that of the corresponding AIMPA without a shunt stub.

  • In this paper, it is designed a new type single layer patch antenna which is printed on a very thin film and separated from the ground-plane by foam with a low permitivity of 1.06 and a high thickness of around quarter wavelength. It allows the use of three-dimensional transition, from one level to another, so that its bandwidth can be enhanced by wideband impedance matching. The radiation pattern, return loss, and VSWR of the antenna are calculated using "IE3D" simulation package, and compared with the experimental results. Experimental results show that the bandwidth is about 65% of center frequency 6.8 GHz, return loss and VSWR are in a fairly good agreement with the calculations.culations.

  • In this paper, printed antenna which can be applied to a built-in wireless module of the security controller operating at global positioning system(GPS) L1 frequency band(1.575GHz) is proposed. The proposed antenna is basically composed of a microstrip patch antenna with inserting feed. In particular left and right slots which are respectively asymmetric are used for impedance matching, whereas slot with one open-end and shorting point are used on the bottom plane to set operating frequency and enhance bandwidth. It is observed at the desired GPS L1 frequency band that the radiation efficiency and gain of the proposed antenna are 90% and more than 4.8dBi respectively.

  • An accurate design method for rectangular microstrip patch antenna that can be applied to wide range of frequencies (C-band to X-band) is proposed. With due regard the frequency dependent effective dielectric permittivity to design formula, the inaccuracy of previous design formulae can be overcome. The results predicted by new procedure are compared well experimental results that had varying operation frequencies between 7GHz and 15GHz. Antennas are fabricated over microwave substrates with the same dielectric permittivity and thickness. Radiation power patterns are also measured and they well with theoretical values.

  • In this paper, a compact patch antenna with four T-slits fed by crossed aperture coupling is proposed for miniaturized Portable GPS handsets. The mechanism for compact size antenna is investigated with the behavior of the currents on the radiating patch. The equivalent surface current path due to the slits is lengthened, reducing the resonant frequency at a fixed patch size. The results of embedded T-slits for compact antenna size show that the resonant frequency is significantly lowered from 2.545GHz to 1.575GHz, corresponding to a 44.65% antenna size reduction compared to reference design. Experimental results show that good CP radiation patterns are obtained and impedance bandwidth (VSWR $\leq$ 2), 3dB axial ratio are about 21MHz, 19MHz at the center resonant frequency, respectively.

  • In this paper, parasitic patches gap-coupled microstrip antenna and stacked microstrip patch antenna combined with parallel coupled lines, which are a kind of wideband impedance matching network, are proposed to get the wider bandwidth. The iterative method using a distributed network is proposed to design the parallel coupled lines as a wideband impedance matching network. Measurements show that the proposed antennas provide wider bandwidths ~1.6 times and ~1.5 times those of conventional parasitic gap-coupled microstrip patch antenna and stacked microstrip patch antenna. In addition, measured radiation patterns show no serious variation of radiation patterns though the parallel coupled lines is added. The antenna gain is, however, lowered about 1 dB and 0.5 dB by the coupling loss in the parallel coupled lines.
