  • In this study, the anti-stain effect of the Traditional Myoung-oil, which has been reproduced through traditional method, the Clean Myoung-oil, which was developed in an eco-friendly method through scientific analysis of Traditional Myoung-oil, and the perilla oil, which is the raw material of Myoung-oil and is currently used as a finishing agent when repairing wooden cultural properties was evaluated. As a result of the evaluation, perilla oil showed almost no anti-stain effect, whereas both types of Myoung-oil showed high anti-stain effect. However, it was confirmed that the anti-stain effect was significantly reduced after 4 weeks of exposure to the strain when Myoung-oil was diluted with terpene oil, a natural solvent. Thus, it was considered that the amount of treatment in the wood affected the anti-stain effect of Myoung-oil. In other words, in constructing wooden buildings, Myoung-o il is more suitable as a finishing agent to suppress mold growth than perilla oil. And, in order to increase the applicability of Myoung-oil, it is suggested that additional research on the optimal treatment amount and treatment method that can inhibit mold growth inhibition in outdoor environments is necessary.

  • Two kinds of chemicals (RNF-3 and RNF-4) with high anti-mold effectiveness against stored fungi causing fungal discoloration was selected from among the six kinds of fluoride-based chemicals in the preceding study. In this study, the anti-mold test using 16 species fungi isolated from the softwood lumbers which were fungal discolored and field test in the sawmill was carried out to prove the feasibility for practical using of selected chemicals. For the isolated fungi, the RNF-3 consist of F and Cu showed high mycelial growth control in the PDA medium and fungicidal effectiveness in the japanese red pine (Pinus densiflora), korean pine (Pinus koraiensis) and radiata pine (Pinus radiata) when the concentration was 2% or more. However the RNF-4 consist of F only was not effective compared with RNF-3 because of mycelial growth in the PDA medium and wood treated with 2% or more chemical solution. The RNF-3 also showed a strong anti-mold effectiveness because there was no fungal discoloration for the radiata pine boards treated by 2% and 10 min. soaking in the field test. These results mean that RNF-3 can be used as domestic anti-stain chemicals for prevention of fungal discoloration of the softwood lumber

  • To develope of the inexpensive anti-stain chemicals, it was conducted to investigate the inhibitory effectiveness of mycelial growth and anti-mold effectiveness against test fungi causing surface mold of wood, iron corrosivity and hygroscopicity of six fluoride-based chemicals made from industrial by- product.Among the six chemicals. RNF-3 and RNF-4 were the most effective with respect to a mycelial growth control and anti-mold effectiveness. For the wood treatment with these chemicals, the optimum concentration was about 2% and there was no difference in the effectiveness of chemicals between wood species. The wood treated with synthesized chemicals showed a relatively high iron corrosion rate for corrosive F component whereas, in the treatment with RNF-3 and RNF-4, there was no difference from the untreated wood when the concentration was less than 2%. The hygroscopic property of wood was not effected by treatment of these chemicals. To prove the feasibility for practical using of RNF-3 and RNF-4 chemicals, it is necessary to test of anti-mold effectiveness in the sawmill by field test.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the fungicidal, anti-sapstain and termiticidal efficacy of commercial Dan-Chung which are currently being used for painting to decorate and to provide durability with structures of temples. Two binders (Polysol and Gelatine), and eleven pigments (Iron Oxide Red, Lead Red, Toluidine Red, Chrome Yellow, Titanium Dioxide, Ultramarine Blue, Chrome Oxide Green, Permanent Black, Cyanine Green and Ho-bun(Chalk)) were applied for the evaluation. The fungicidal and anti-sapstain activity of each pigment were depended on the types of binders. When the Polysol was used as a binder, the fungicidal efficacy of Toluidine Red treated specimen was close to the standard value (above 80) with grater than 70 against to two wood decay fungi (T. palustris and T. versicolor). The anti-sapstain efficacy of Lead Red treated specimens was excellent against to three sapstain fungi (P. funiculosum, T. viride and R. nigricans), and that of Ultramarine Blue treated specimens was also excellent to T. viride. The other pigments had little efficacy to these micro-organisms. Although there were some different trends of the effectiveness depending on the types of binders, the anti-termite effectiveness of Chrome Oxide Green and Chrome Yellow was outstanding to termite tests.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the antibacterial activity and deodorization of fabrics dyed with pine needles extract. The microbes used for a test were two kinds of bacteria and two kinds of fungi. The test results showed as follows. In the test results of antimicrobial activity, both cotton and silk fabrics showed the antimicrobial rate of over 90% after washing three times. In the test result of antifungal activity, all fabrics didn't show any effective antifungal activity. In the test result of deodorization, the dyed cotton fabric showed the higher rate of deodorization than the non-dyed fabric, and the fabric showed the highest rate of deodorization was the test fabric mordanted by Fe and the rate of deodorization showed 92%. In case of silk fabric, the fabric showed the highest rate of deodorization was the test fabric mordanted by Al, and the rate of deodorization showed 92%.
