  • A trigger point injection (TPI) has been reported to have an immediate analgesic effect, and to be one of the most widely employed treatment methods of myofascial pain. There are normal saline, local anesthetics, and steroids as the solutions frequently used in TPI. They can be used separately or in combination. Local anaesthetics have myotoxicity in proportion to its concentration. The purpose of this study was to evaluate microstructural changes in point of the myotoxic effects of the combined solution of lidocaine and dexamethasone (a local anesthetic and a steroid) after being injected into the muscle of BALB/c mice. And this study tested solutions with various concentration separately and in combination, to find out proper concentration of solution without muscular tissue damage. This study shows that lidocaine and dexamethasone combination is not histologically myotoxic in case of the concentration of lidocaine less than 1.5%. Also it is suggested from this study that this combined solution will have an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. Hereafter continuous study should be performed to reveal that these results can be applied to human when lidocaine and dexamethasone combination is used as an injection modality of TrP treatment.

  • This study attempted to examine the impact of musculoskeletal pain on pedestrian crossing using a sample that consisted of 282 aged people. The research method involved an examination of the musculoskeletal pain of the elderly using a musculoskeletal questionnaire. The subjects were also told to walk across four- and six-lane pedestrian crossings while their gait velocity, step count, and step time were measured. The research results for pain by body regions indicated that waist pain had the highest complaint rate(33.3%). When there was musculoskeletal pain in the waist and leg/foot, gait velocity also decreased and step count and step time increased. However, usage of a cane turned out to have a positive impact on pedestrian crossing. Nevertheless, no significant relationship between waist and leg/foot pain and pedestrian crossing characteristics was found. We expect there will be continuous further studies on the subject of diverse physical problems of the aged and pedestrian crossing.

  • This study is the investigation research to look into rest, computer work environment and muscle and bone symptom of high school students in some area. With high school students in K area as the object the questionnaires of self-writing type were distributed and the final 685 copies were collected and material analysis was carried out. In the differences between work posture and environment evaluation score following whether or not of pain existing of the each part of pain, the score of the persons who do not have pain was significantly higher than the score of the persons who have pain. The negative correlation between the part of pain and work environment was in desk(shoulder), chair(neck, shoulder, back, and ankle/foot), monitor(shoulder, back) keyboard (neck, shoulder, and ankle/foot) appeared as the result. Controling monitor and chair environment is help to alleviate neck pain and ankle/foot pain respectively. Therefore, computer work environment and bone and muscle symptom have relations and as the use of computer increases, prevention program which can relieve muscle and bone symptom by improving computer work environment is necessary.

  • Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of Taping therapy on the deformed angle of the foot and pain in hallux valgus patients. Method: The subjects were 24 feet from 15 patients who were diagnosed withhallus valgus at the orthopedic department of K University Hospital in Seoul. Taping therapy was conducted 15 times overall during a four-week period. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test. Result: The deformed angle of the foot of the hallus valgus patients significantly improved from 21.95(4.38) to 18.75(4.80) after Taping therapy. Pain significantly decreased from 4.73(1.56) to 3.45(2.21) after Taping therapy. Conclusion: The result shows that Taping therapy is effective in improving the deformed angle of the foot and in decreasing pain in the hallux valgus patients.
