  • In surface mining, it is very important to create a mining area for economical mining. This study examined the contribution of design factors on slope stability with different slope design and blasting conditions. The design factors were the properties of the rock, the slope angle and the bench height, and the blasting conditions were reflected at different explosive weight and distances. The safety factor of slope was calculated by shear strength reduction method through 3D modeling, and the contribution rate of rock slope was 94.8%, which is relatively higher than other design factors, slope angle 0.89%, bench height 0.58%, and blasting It is shown that it affects about 3.73%, and it can be seen that blasting at a close distance can affect the stability of the slope.

  • It is necessary to increase the blasting efficiency in order to minimize the economic loss caused when the excavation cross section is reduced due to the stability problem of underground mining development, and for this, a new blasting design is proposed. In this study, the blasting efficiency of the general design in the field, the suggestion designI, which added two columns to production blasting, and the suggestion design II, which added one column to create asymmetry, is compared. Advance rate and fragmentation were selected as the evaluation index of the blasting efficiency. In the case of advance rate, compared to the normal, the suggestionI improved by 6.07% and the suggestionII improved by 4.65%. In the case of fragmentation, based on P80, compared to the normal, the suggestionI reduced about 58% and the suggestionII was about 47%. Accoording to the evaluation index, the suggestion designI shows better blasting efficiency than the suggestion designII. But considering the additional work time and cost required for the suggestion designI due to the insignificant difference in the evaluation index results, the asymmetry V-cut, the suggestion designII, is judged to be a more suitable blasting design for the site.

  • It was designed as the mechanical excavation mass method on 176m because the safety thing is located around the site. But low-vibration blasting using an electronic detonator was proposed to improve constructability and economy. As a result of the suggestion blasting, both blasting noise and vibration were safe within the allowable limit, confirming the applicability of low-vibration blasting using an electronic detonator to the section. And compared with the mechanical mass excavation method, an economic evaluation was conducted about the section, and it was evaluated that there was an economic advantage as the construction period was reduced by 88 days.

  • In order to complete successfully the demolition of a silo structure by means of felling method, structural properties and the geometric design of blast mouth have to be considered. In this study, a commercial software, 3-dimensional applied element analysis (3D AEM), was used to investigate the effect of the geometrical parameters of blast mouth on the collapse behavior of the silo structure.

  • The paper presents a case study from a surface mine where the controlled augmentation of throw and drop of the blasted muck piles was warranted to spread the muck piles on the lower berm of the bench. While the augmentation of throw increased the lateral spread and the looseness of the broken muck, the augmentation of drop significantly lowered the muck pile height for easy excavation by the excavators. In this light, the present paper highlights and discusses some pertinent changes in the blast design parameters for such specialized application of cast blasting in a surface mine, where a sandstone bench, with average height of 22-24 m was to be made amenable for excavation by 10 m3 rope shovels, which possessed maximum digging capability of up to 14 m. The results of tailoring the blast design parameters for augmentation of throw and drop are compared with the baseline blasts which were earlier practiced on the same bench by dividing the full height of the bench in 2-slices; upper slice (10-14 m high) and lower slice (12-15 m high). Results of fragment size, its distribution and total cycle time of excavator (shovel) are presented, and discussed.

  • According to increasing demands for a redevelopment of a wall-slab structure apartment, new explosive demolition methods, which are different from those for RC structure apartment, are requested. In this study, to provide basic design data on explosive demolition of wall-slab structure apartment, wall-slab structure apartments were classified according to building types and dimensions. Also adequate explosive demolition methods for wall-slab structure apartment are analyzed by using blasting pattern factors such as height(H), breadth(B) and length(L) of apartment.

  • In this study, 16 test blastings had been carried out with different spacings, burdens, drilling lengths, and charges per delay for investigating the characteristics of ground vibration propagation, which depends on the delay time. From the tests, it was possible to derive a ground vibration equation. Using the equation, the characteristics of ground vibration could be investigated by analyzing the nomogram and predicting the Peak Particle Velocity (PPV), which are influenced by the delay time and the priming location. The trend of ground vibration change depending on the delay time was analyzed for the standards charges of 0.5, 1.6, 5, and 15 kg, which were suggested in "Blasting design and construction guidelines to road construction" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. From the study, it would be possible to suggest a favorable vibration control method, which depends on the charge.
