A Study on Alarm System of a right Fecundation time for a Sow Using Ubiquitous Sensor Network(USN) (유비쿼터스 센서 네트워크를 이용한 돼지 발정 감지 및 수정 적기알림 장치 개발에 관한 연구)

  • A sow has a characteristic changing in its temperature. It is a suitable time that is decreasing after sow's body temperature increased to the highest point. We observe the variation of temperature through USN(Ubiqutous Sensor Network) system using wireless sensor inserted in the womb. The wireless sensor send massage to user's server and its server send SMS massage to user's cell phone. We contribute to user's income increase as it notice to suitable fecundation.

Changes of spontaneous pancreatic exocrine secretion during the estrous cycle in rats (흰쥐에서 발정주기에 따른 자발적인 췌장외분비의 변화)

  • Since the role of female sexual hormones on pancreatic exocrine secretion was not fully understood, this study was investigated to clarify the difference of spontaneous pancreatic exocrine responses during the estrous cycle and the roles of ovarian hormones on pancreatic exocrine secretion in the anesthetized female rats. Pancreatic juice was collected from the sequential 15-min samples, and then fluid and protein secretion were measured from the collected samples. The stages of estrous cycle were defined by staining the vaginal smear. The spontaneous pancreatic fluid and protein secretion were significantly increased during the diestrus stage compare to the corresponding value during the estrus stage. In the ovariectomized rat, spontaneous pancreatic exocrine secretion was significantly decreased compare to the value of female rat during the diestrus stage and was restored by subcutaneous injection of progesterone (50 mg/kg). This results suggest that the spontaneous pancreatic exocrine secretion of female rat is fluctuated according to the estrous cycle and progesterone released from ovary could stimulate the spontaneous pancreatic exocrine secretion of female rat.

  • Milk progesterone concentrations were measured in 111 dairy cows for confirming the estrus observation and for the early pregnancy diagnosis. Of the 56 cows inseminated, 52 cows(92.8%) were an ovulatory estrus, 2 cows(3.6%) were an unovulatory estrus, and 2 cows(3.6%) were the error of estrus observation, respectively. Milk progesterone concentrations at 21 and 24 days after artificial insemination were significantly higher in 23 pregnant cows compared with those in 5 non-pregnant cows(P<0.05). The accuracy rate for early pregnancy diagnosis in 27 cows achieved when the discriminatory concentration at 21 days after artificial insemination was placed at 2.0 ng/ml skim milk, was 91.3% for positive diagnosis and 100% for negative diagnosis, respectively. These results indicated that milk progesterone determination at 0, 6 and 21 days after artificial insemination can be utilized for confirming the estrus observation and for early pregnancy diagnosis. In conclusion, milk progesterone determination is useful diagnostic tool for monitoring the reproductive performance.

  • A study was conducted to improve the reproductive performance of Korean native cows. Plasma progesterone concentrations were determined by radioimmunoassay during the estrous cycle and early pregnancy. Plasma progesterone concentrations during the estrous cycle in the 15 cows were the lowest (0.30ng/ml) at estrus, gradually increased after 6 days, remained high from 8 to 17 days (3.87~5.59ng/ml) and drastically decreased thereafter to reach minimal concentrations at the next estrus. Plasma progesterone concentrations of the 10 pregnant cows at 20 days after insemination were $5.82{\pm}1.33ng/ml$ (mean${\pm}$SD) and those of 10 non-pregnant cows were $0.30{\pm}0.21ng/ml$, respectively. Therefore, plasma progesterone concentrations in the pregnant cows at 20 days after insemination were significantly higher than in non-pregnant cows (p<0.001).

  • There are several factors which are more likely to have sleep disorders in fertile women with menstruation than adult men. Menstrual cycle plays an important role in them. We describe herein the overview about the association of menstrual cycle and sleep disorders by viewing the interactions of menstrual cycle and circadian rhythm. We review how menstrual cycle affects sleep-wake cycle by reviewing menstrual cycle and estrous cycle to understand these interactions. Menstrual cycle and estrous cycle are mainly affected by hormonal cycle and light-dark cycle, respectively and they are generally determined in monthly rhythm and annual rhythm, respectively. The determination of estrous cycle is also affected by cyclic changes of hormones besides light-dark cycle. Although sleep-wake cycle almost alternates according to estrous cycle in non-primate mammals, it is hardly affected by menstrual cycle in primate mammals as compared with estrous cycle. But menstrual cycle affects sleep-wake cycle via desynchronization of sleep-wake cycle and temperature rhythm. The decrease of amplitude and phasic change during luteal phase in the daily fluctuation of body core temperature can partially contribute to the induction of sleep disorders in fertile women. In addition to this, premenstrual syndrome which nearly happens during luteal phase commonly have sleep problems. Therefore, we suggest that menstrual cycle and PMS can partially contribute the increase of sleep disorders in fertile women.

Effects of the Unilateral Ovariectomy on Estrus Cycle, Weights of Ovary, Placenta and Fetus, and Number of Litter in Female Rats (편측난소척출이 흰쥐의 발정주기, 난소.태반.태아 중량 및 산자수에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the recovery period of estrus cycle, the pseudopregnancy period, weights of ovary, placenta and fetus, and number of litter of female rats after unilateral ovariectomy(ULO). The results obtained are as follows : 1. The estrus cycle was inclined to become normal from the second time. 2. The pseudopregnancy period of rats in unilaterally ovariectomized group and control group, and no significant difference in pseudopregnancy period was shown between the two groups. 3. The ovarian weights of each ULO group were significantly(P<0.01) heavier than that of the control group throughout the observation periods of pregnancy. 4. The placental weights of ULO group were not different from that of the control group in 10 and 15 days of pregnancy. But they became significantly (P<0.05) heavier in 20 days. 5. The weights of fetus in ULO at 10 days of pregnancy was not different from that ofthe control group, but the weights in ULO group at 15 and 20 days of pregnancy were significantly(P<0.01) heavier. 6. The number of litter in ULO was smaller than that of the control groups.

Comparative Analysis for General and Estrus-related Vocalizations in Sows (모돈의 일반 발성음과 발정기 특이음의 비교분석)

  • The aim of this study was to divide vocalizations of sows into general(GVs) and estrus-related vocalizations( EVs) and to find out their phonetic characteristics. Ten sows(Landrace) were recorded using digital video recorders twice daily(06: 00 - 08 : 00h and 17: 00 - 19 : 00h) during the anestrus and estrus periods. The GVs and EVs were divided based on the shapes of spectrum and spectrogram. The GVs and EVs were identified as 5 and 3 types, respectively. Pitch, formant I, formant 2, and formant 3 between GVs and EVs were not significantly different(P> 0.05), whereas intensity(P < 0.001), duration(P < 0.05), and formant 4(P < 0.01) were significantly different. Three parameter groups(Group I : Formant vector alone, Group II: Formant veetor+ parameters from time signal, Group III: Formant vector+parameters from time signal-parameters eliminated by stepwise discriminant analysis backward) were compared by discriminant function analysis. The classification system adopted in the Group II represented the higher discrimination rate than those in other groups(Group I : 76.1 0/0, Group II : 88.1 0/0, Group Ill: 87.3 %). These results suggest that EVs are present and intensity, formant 2, and formant 4 are available parameters for discrimination of EVs in sows.

  • This study was carried out to determine the effects of uterus shortening on the duration required for estrus, the number of ovulation and the level of serum progesterone and prostaglandin $F_{2}{\alpha} (PGF_{2}{\alpha} $). The duration required for estrus after the surgical shortening of uterine horns and the interval between the following estrus was not affected by the surgical treatment but affected by luteal and follicular phase. The number of ovulations were increased by induction of superovulation to gilts with shortened uterine horns compared to the control. Serum progesterone concentration during the luteal phase was higher than that during the follicular phase with no difference between the control and me horns than that of the control. Findings of this study indicate that luteal formation and regressions and estrus cycle were normal when the unconnected parts of uterine horns were left in abdominal cavity. Therefore surgical shortening of uterine horns of sows helps embryo collections by non-surgical methods.

  • A 1-year-old, 2.35 kg spayed female American short hair cat was referred with episodic signs of heat at 3 months after ovariohysterectomy. Through the screening tests, bilateral cystic, ovary like masses were shown at the caudal to both kidneys with high serum estradiol concentration. It was considered that the patient was suffered from ovarian remnant syndrome. Laparoscopic exploration was performed, and each of mass lesions was resected by ultrasonic scalpel. Patient was recovered favorably and has been doing well without recurrence of estrus signs until 2 years after surgery.

  • 이 논문에서는 질병, 발정, 분만, 스트레스 등 이상상황에서의 가축 행동 및 생체 특성을 분석하고, 상황인식을 위한 무선센서 네트워크를 제안한다. 제안한 시스템에서는 다양한 센서를 이용하여 가축 운동량, 위치, 충격량, 고도, 가속도 체온 정보를 수집하여, 활동량, 군집도, 승가여부, 체온 등의 특성 정보로 가공되어 상황인식에 활용한다. 무선센서 네트워크는 전류소모량이 많은 축사환경정보 수집센서는 유선 통신으로 구현하고, 가축 행동 및 생체정보 센서는 저전력 통신이 가능하도록 설계하여 목걸이형 기구물 교체주기를 최대화하였다. 또한, 제안한 무선센서 네트워크는 가축의 이상상황 인식에 필요한 다양한 정보를 수집할 수 있어, 효율적인 가축관리를 통한 생산성 향상에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
