Novel Design Proposal to Minimize Reflection Sensitivity in Active Directional Couplers with Mismatched Access Guides (비 정렬된 입출력단자를 갖는 능동형 방향성 결합기에서 반사감도를 최소화하기 위한 새로운 설계조건 제안)

  • It proposes the novel design conditions to maximize the power coupling of active directional couplers with mismatched access guides. To verify the validity and accuracy of the conditions proposed, a new coupling efficiency is defined and it depends on the reflection coefficients occurred at the discontinuous input/output interfaces. The numerical results reveal that the phase-matched condition and the minimum-gap condition for those couplers are no longer suitable to optimize the design parameters and a new criterion is needed.

  • This research focuses on convenient radar received power prediction method for detection predictions of North Korea SLBM(Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile). Recently, North Korea tested launching of SLBM which is threatening international security. Therefore, for active respondence to these threat, it is essential to analyze the radar detection prediction of SLBM. In this point of view, this work suggests a method for detection predictions for SLBM by simulating of RCS(Radar Cross Section) and wave propagation.

  • In this paper, Electromagnetic scattering problem by a perfectly conducting strip grating with 2 dielectric layer on a grounded plane by incidence of a electric wave is analyzed by applying the PMM (Point Matching Method) known as a simple procedure. The scattered electromagnetic fields are expanded in a series of Floquet mode functions. The boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown field coefficients and the conducting boundary condition is used for the relationship between the tangential electric field and the electric current density on the strip When the incident angle is normal incidence the minimum value of the geometrically normalized reflected power according as relative permittivity is increased it should be noted that the value of the strip width gets moved toward high value. Them most energy by a normal incident wave is scattered in direction of the other angles except normal incident angle.

  • The simple PSK signal generation method using a quadrature hybrid coupler and reflection coefficient elements was analyzed in this paper. The PSK modulation signal with a constant constellation is generated by reflection coefficient from 90o hybrid coupler output ports, the high-mode PSK signal is also generated by the hybrid structure of coupler, delay line and power combiner. The BPSK signal is simply generated by a 90o hybrid coupler and reflection elements, and QPSK with 90o phase constellation is generated by additional delay line and power combiner. By simulation results, the generated PSK signals by the proposed circuit get good modulation spectra within 3o phase error.

  • A control of the body posture and movement is maintained by the vestibular system, vision, and proprioceptors. Especially, vestibular system has a very important function that controls the eye movement through vestibuloocular reflex and contraction of skeletal muscles through vestibulospinal reflex. However, postural disturbance caused by loss of vestibular function results in nausea, vomiting, vertigo and loss of craving for life. Lose of vestibular function leads to abnormal reflex of eye movements named nystagmus. Analysis of the nystagmus is needed to diagnose the vertigo, which is performed by means of electrooculography(EOG). The purpose of this study is to develop a computerized system for data processing and an algorithm for the automatic evaluation of the slow component velocity(SCV) of nystagmus induced by optokinetic(OKN) stimulation system. A new algorithm using recursive least square method(RLSM) to detect SCV of nystagmus is suggested in this paper. This method allows a fast and precise evaluation of the nystagmus, through artifact rejection techniques. The results are depicted in this paper.

A Study on TE Scattering by a Conductive Strip Grating Over a Dielectric Layer (유전체층 위의 완전도체띠 격자구조에 의한 TE 산란에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the solutions of TE(transverse electric) scattering problems by a condutive strip grating over a dielectric layer are analyzed by using the FGMM(fourier galerkin moment method) and PMM(point matching method) known as a numerical method of electromagnetic fileld. The scattered electromagnetic fields are expanded in a series of floguet mode functions, the boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown field coefficients, and the conductive boundary condition is used for the relationship between the tangential electric field and the induced surface current density on the strip. The numerical results for the reflected and transmitted power of zeroth mode analyzed by according as the width and spacing of conductive strip, the relative permittivity and thickness of dielectric layer, and incident angles. Generally, according to the relative permittivity of dielectric layer increased, also the normalized reflected power of zeroth mode increased. To examine the accruacy of this paper, the numerical results of FGMM shown in good agreement compared to those of PMM.

Remote Water Level Monitoring System Based on Reflected Optical Power Detection with an Optical Coupler for Spent Fuel Pool at Nuclear Power Plant (전력상실시 광분배기 기반의 반사광 측정을 통한 사용후핵연료 저장조의 원격 수위 감시방법)

  • We propose a new method to monitor the water level of spent fuel pool in a nuclear power plant without electric power. We also analyze the performance and limitation of the proposed method. Our method is based on the reflected optical power at the end of optical fiber through a $1{\times}N$ optical coupler. We reveal that there is no problem to monitor the water level when using a $1{\times}8$ optical coupler. However, when a $1{\times}16$ optical coupler is used, only 15 out of 16 output ports can be used due to Rayleigh back-scattering. When a $1{\times}32$ optical coupler is used, only 25 out of 32 output ports can be used to monitor the water level.

Design and Performance Evaluation of Two-Layered Microwave Absorbers(Dielectric/Magnetic) for Wide Oblique Incidence Angles Used for ITS (ITS용 2층형 전파 흡수체(유전체/자성체) 설계 및 경사 입사 흡수 특성 해석)

  • Advanced microwave absorbers for wide oblique incidence angles are required in many applications including wireless communication or vehicle identification in ITS(Intelligent Transport System) where 5.8 GHz DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication) system is applied. In this study, two-layered microwave absorber(with a laminate structure of dielectric/magnetic composites) has been designed for the achievement of low reflection coefficient over wide incidence angles at 5.8 GHz. Iron flake particles are used as the filler in the absorbing layer, and the magnetic composite sheet exhibits high magnetic loss due to ferromagnetic resonance in gigahertz frequencies. The surface layer of low dielectric constant containing small amount of carbon black is used as the impedance transformer. On the basis of transmission line theory, the reflection loss has been calculated for the two-layer structure with variation of incident angles for both TE(Transverse Electric) and TM(Transverse Magnetic) polarizations. At the optimum thickness of the composite layers, a low value of reflection loss(less than -10 dB) has been predicted for wide incidence angles up to $55^{\circ}$ which is in good agreement with the measured value determined by free-space measurement.

A Study on the Fabrication of the 4 Port In-Phase High Power Combiner (4포트 동위상 고출력 전력결합기의 구현에 관한 연구)

  • The broadband high power 3-way combiner was designed and fabricated for the digital TV repeater. To achieve increase of the bandwidth and the high power capability, Wilkinson type power divider was adopted in our research. First of all, Wilkinson type power divider of equal-split and unequal-split were combined, and the characteristics of the four port in-phase power combiner was simulated for each thickness of dielectric substrates. As the results of simulation, the power combiner fabricated by using dielectric substrate of 120 mil-thickness has the characteristics as follows: insertion loss of less than -651 dB, reflection coefficient of less than -13 dB, isolation among the output ports of less than -15 dB, and pose difference among the output ports of smiler than 13$^{\circ}$. Therefore, this power combiner was possible to improve the limit of microstrip line width due to high impedance, the problem of power loss due to interaction between strip lines in a high power combiner and narrow bandwidth simultaneously. Furthermore, making broadband and high power could be achieved since the fabricated 3-way combiner has good characteristics of insertion loss, the reflection coefficient, separation between ports, and phase difference.

  • We performed the development and performance evaluation of reflective type heart rate measurement system for PAPS. We used chip LED and chip photo TR. for low power driving. The measured PPG signal is preprocessed using high pass filter and low pass filter, and the preprocessed signal is displayed by LabVIEW. Also LabVIEW include the algorithm that extract effective signal and calculate the heart rate. We made sure that it will be able to apply to measurement equipment with high accuracy and repetition from exercising subject using this system and algorithm.
