식용곤충 함유 반려동물 식품 시장의 성장 요인을 확인하기 위하여, 반려동물 식품시장 규모가 가장 큰 국가가 미국임을 고려하여 미국인 소비자를 대상으로 식용곤충 함유 반려동물 식품에 대한 인식과 태도를 분석하였다. 연구는 반려견을 키우는 재한 미국인 16명을 두 그룹으로 나누어 심층토론 방식으로 다음과 같은 세 가지 상황에서 진행하였다. 먼저 식용곤충 함유 반려동물 식품에 대한 자유 연상 인식을 관찰하였고, 이후 식용곤충 함유 반려동물 식품 관련 언론 정보를 제공한 후 이에 대한 태도를 분석하였으며, 마지막으로 실제 제품을 제시하여 구매 맥락에서의 소비자 태도를 확인하였다. 분석 결과, 참여자들은 식용곤충 원료에 대해 자유 연상 시 '친환경적인', '지속가능한'과 같은 환경적 가치에 대한 인식이 높고 이와 관련한 구체적 언론 정보에 대해서도 긍정적인 태도를 보였지만, 구매 맥락에서는 오히려 환경적 가치보다 '저 알레르기', '고단백질', '피부/모질 개선' 등과 같은 영양 및 건강기능적 가치를 중요하게 여기는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, '식용곤충 원료에 대한 거부감'은 일반 식품과 마찬가지로 반려동물 식품에서도 여전히 가장 중요한 부정적 요소로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과는 미국인 소비자들을 대상으로 세 가지 상황에서 식용곤충 함유 반려동물 식품의 환경적, 영양적, 건강기능적 가치에 대한 인식과 태도를 조사함으로써 식용곤충 원료 산업에서 시도하고 있는 반려동물 식품 시장 진출 전망에 대한 가능성을 확인한 것에 의의가 있다.

코로나 시대에 반려동물은 우리에게 많은 위안을 주고, 가족처럼 반려동물을 여기는 펫팸족이 등장하였다. 그리고 젊은 소비자는 자신에게 소비할 금액을 줄여서 반려동물에게 소비하는 패턴을 보이는 펫푸어도 볼 수 있다. 하지만 이러한 시대적인 변화에도 불구하고 펫푸드를 포함한 반려동물 용품 및 화장품은 여전히 수입 의존도가 높고, 국내의 반려동물 화장품 및 용품에 대한 기준이 설정되어 있지 않아 화장품 안전기준 등에 관한 규정에만 의존하고 있는 실정이다. 또한 국내 반려동물 용품 및 화장품에 관한 용어도 아직 정립되지 않은 상태이다. 현재 국내 법률은 반려동물과 관련한 동물보호법 만이 존재하지만 일본에서는 반려동물 사료안전법이 2009년 6월부터 시행되었고, 미국은 연방식품, 의약품, 화장품 관리법에서 반려동물 화장품 및 용품을 담당하고, 동물보호법이 강력한 독일은 식품 및 사료에 대한 다양한 국가 차원의 법규가 있다. 그리고 식품 안전국 웹 사이트에서도 국가 규정을 정밀하게 확인 가능하다. 따라서 본 연구는 국외의 빠르게 성장하고 안정적인 반려동물 산업처럼 국내에서도 반려 동물 산업을 관리하고 개발을 뒷받침 해주는 국가 정책과 환경 등이 반려동물 용품 및 화장품 그 외 다양한 반려동물 관련 산업을 해외시장으로 수출하는데 기초자료로 반드시 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

전 세계적으로 반려동물 문화와 관련 산업이 함께 확장되고 있다. 반려동물 산업 중 펫푸드(반려동물 식품)는 반려동물 산업에서 상당히 많은 지분을 차지하는 분야이다. 현재 국내 펫푸드 시장은 수입 제품의 의존도가 높은 상황이며, 관련 산업의 경쟁력 확보 및 기술개발을 위해서 지적재산권 확보는 매우 중요한 역할을 한다. 따라서, 우리는 국내 펫푸드 특허의 현황과 전망을 파악하기 위해 구체적으로 시계열 및 출원인별 통계분석, IPC 기술분석을 실시하여 기술 발전 단계, 기업의 기술개발 및 혁신력, 특허출원 분포와 주요 기업 및 연구기관의 기술을 분석하였다. 연구결과, 펫푸드 관련 국내 연구 활동은 현재 성숙기로 접어든 것으로 나타났으며, 국내 펫푸드에 대한 특허출원 동향은 국내기업 외 다국적 기업의 참여도 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 특허출원의 대다수는 사료 및 식품 쪽으로 집중되었다. 향후, 국내 펫푸드 산업의 성장을 위해 국내외 소비자들의 수요와 일치되는 기술개발과 펫푸드로 파생되는 IT 및 첨담기술을 접목하여 특허 기술을 발전시킬 필요가 있다. 이러한 연구와 개발을 통해 우리는 국내 펫푸드 산업이 지속적인 성장을 이루어낼 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

최근 반려동물을 키우는 가구 수가 증가함에 따라 반려동물의 식품 및 용품 산업이 급속하게 성장하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 반려동물의 식품 및 용품의 시장현황을 분석하여 관련 정책 및 산업체에서 활용할 수 있는 기초자료를 제시하고자 한다. 닐슨코리아의 전국 도 소매 유통망을 활용하여 자료를 취합하고 사용하였다. 반려견 식품의 경우 국내업체 PB제품이 가장 높은 점유율(24.6%)을 가지고 있으며, 국내업체 점유율(54.8%)이 수입업체 점유율(45.2%)보다 높게 나타났다. 반려묘 식품 역시 국내업체 PB제품이 가장 높은 점유율(16.5%)을 가지고 있으나, 수입업체 점유율(71.6%)이 국내업체 점유율(28.4%)보다 높게 나타났다. 반려동물 장난감 경우 국내업체의 노즈워크 담요 판매 점유율(28.0%)이 가장 높으며, 구강용품(62.5%), 목욕용품(59.5%) 또한 국내 업체들의 제품이 점유율 상위권으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 국내 업체들이 대내적으로는 지속적인 시장점유율을 높이고 대외적으로는 수출을 확대할 수 있기를 기대해 본다.

Majority of the respiratory infectious diseases that are generally prevalent in Korea from autumn to winter are caused by viruses such as respiratory syncytial virus and influenza A virus. Therefore, there is rapidly rising interest in determining the antiviral effects of probiotics against respiratory viruses and elucidating the probable mechanism behind it. Various human clinical trials as well as animal experiments have shown that some probiotics potentially have antiviral activity based on their immunomodulatory effect. Hence, this review describes in detail the various possibilities of using probiotics as antiviral agents against respiratory viruses and their potential effects. Also, it provides basic data regarding the availability of different probiotics relevant for their production by dairy and food industries.

This study aims to examine consumer types based on pet food selection attributes and to analyze the differences in consumer characteristics by those types. In this study, the researcher uses k-means cluster analysis and crossover analysis to determine market segmention, and then analyzes the resultant characteristics by categorizing consumers. A total of 202 cases are used for this study. First, the selection attributes are classified into the six factors of credibility, quality, design, convenience, information, and price. Second, the clusters are categorized into the four clusters, which are designated pet food lower-involvement type, pet food information- and price-seeking type, pet food convenience-seeking type, and pet food higher-involvement type. Third, these four groups exhibit statistically significant differences in terms of occupational variables, number of pets, and purchase frequency. The results of this study may provide helpful information in establishing customized, market-based marketing strategies based on the characteristics of pet food consumers.

Globally, acute gastroenteritis is responsible for two million pediatric deaths. In particular, viral gastroenteritis is the most common cause of acute diarrhea, and most children aged <5 years are infected at least once. The common symptoms include profuse watery diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and fever. Viral gastroenteritis is generally caused by rotavirus, norovirus, astrovirus, and adenovirus. Recently, probiotics use has increased rapidly worldwide due to its inhibitory effect against viral gastroenteritis. In addition, probiotics are known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects and enhance immunity without any side effects. Therefore, this review focuses on the anti-viral effects of probiotics on viral gastroenteritis. Furthermore, this review would provide basic data that could be used for developing new products that have improved functionality by addition of probiotics to milk and dairy food.

Yogurt fermentation is known to be beneficial because it provides a low pH and harsh environment for foodborne pathogens and improves organoleptic properties. Additionally, organic acids produced through fermentation have a good effect on the viscosity and gelling properties of yogurt. Several potential health benefits of probiotic and generally recognized as safe strains have been suggested. Yogurt is the preferred vehicle for delivering probiotics to health-conscious consumers. Therefore, manufacturers of probiotic beverages must comply with the relevant regulations. The development of probiotic yogurt begins with the selection of strains with safety and functional properties of probiotics. The selected probiotic strain should be technically suitable for viability and improve organoleptic quality while maintaining the number of bacteria above the standard value during processing and storage conditions. In addition, the efficacy of probiotic strains contained in yogurt should be investigated, confirmed, and approved according to well-designed clinical trials. Although various methods are used to detect probiotic strains, the recently widely used next generation sequencing method can be actively utilized. In the future, more research should be conducted with the latest methods to identify probiotic functions and accurately detect probiotic strains.

Currently, various probiotics are being used to improve the nutrition of companion animals. They are widely sold as additives in companion animal foods because of the numerous gastrointestinal and immune health benefits for dogs and cats. Therefore, extensive research is being conducted to improve quality and safety during manufacturing and to extend the shelf life of companion animal foods by adding probiotics. The manufacturing process must be conducted such that the characteristics and efficacy of probiotics added to food are optimally beneficial for companion animals. Therefore, this review aims to address the overall characteristics of the probiotic strains used and to examine the various methods through which probiotics are added to companion animal foods.
