Properties of artificial aggregates of coal bottom ash-dredged soil system added with waste glass (폐유리가 첨가된 석탄바닥재-준설토 계 인공골재의 특성)

  • In this study, the effect of addition of waste glassy slag produced from recycling of spent catalyst (denoted as waste glass hereafter) on the physical properties of artificial aggregates made of coal bottom ash and dredged soil (7 : 3 by weight base) was evaluated. Especially, the bloating behavior of artificial aggregates was analyzed by performing the relation study between the apparent density, water absorption and microstructure. The apparent density of artificial aggregates increased slightly with sintering temperature at $1050{\sim}1150^{\circ}C$, but decreased above $1150^{\circ}C$ showing bloating phenomenon. The bloating behavior of artificial aggregates was decreased so the apparent density increased with amount of waste glass added. Also, the water absorption of artificial aggregates decreased with sintering temperature. Above $1200^{\circ}C$, big fissure and much liquid were formed at the surface of artificial aggregates and these phenomena could be suppressed by increasing amount of waste glass added. The artificial aggregates fabricated in this study had an apparent density of 1.1~1.6 and water absorption of 8~22 % which meet KS requirements for the artificial lightweight aggregates.

  • On going researches which are being made on the welded joints at the intersections of closed ribs such as U-ribs with floor-beams in ortho-tropic steel decks still have been used the shape of scallops with or with not diaphragm inside. Stress Relief Hole(SRH) being presented in this study was investigated in order to reduce the fatigue damage in the intersections of U-rib with floor-beam. Finally, it is verified that circular SRHs sufficiently relief the concentration stress at the intersections of U-rib with floor-beam and shows that SRH can be offer one of the methods that can prevent the fatigue damage in these structural details.

  • For designing concrete structures, engineers are provided data from unidirectional flexure test in most cases. But real structural components such as pavements and deck panel are subjected to multiaxial stress throughout their body. Therefore, biaxial flexure test for concrete may be considered as a gage of the performance of concrete in service. In this paper, we propose the optimum biaixial flexture test (BFT) to measure the biaxial flexural strength of concrete. This method are an improved version of the ring-on-ring test which have been used extensively in the fields of ceramics and biomaterials. The optimum geometry of the test specimen was determined by using a three-dimensional finite element analysis. A series of test data obtained from the proposed test method is provided to show that the proposed optimum biaxial flexure test method can be used to identify the biaxial tensile strength of concrete.

  • An efficient method for the calculation of wave forces on a tension leg platform(TLP) is presented in this paper. It is based on the Morison's equation with two corrective terms. One is the reduction of the inertia forces on the vertical columns in order to include the wave diffraction effect particularly for small wave conditions. The other is the inclusion of the hydrodynamic forces acting at the bottoms of the columns. Numerical studies are carried out for a TLP in 1000 ft water with two different wave heading angles($0^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$). The reponse amplitude operators(RAO's) for the TLP motions and top tether tension variations are obtained by the present method and the theoretically more accurate method based on the diffraction theory. A comparison has been made between the results obtained by two methods.

  • Aluminum extruded panels are widely used instead of corrugated steel panels for weight reduction in high-speed trains. Of the layers in the train body, it makes the largest contribution to the sound insulation. However, compared with that of a flat panel with the same weight, the TL of the aluminum extruded panel is remarkably lower in the local resonance frequency band. We study aluminum extruded panels for next-generation 400-km/h trains. We investigate the problem of sound insulation and propose a practical method to improve the sound-insulation performance. The local resonance frequency region is increased by a modification of the core structure, and urethane foam is placed in the core. The effect on the sound insulation is verified by experiments. Finally, the improvement for the entire sound-transmission loss is estimated for the layered floor panels of express trains.

  • A fire in a subway station platform, completely isolated by screen doors, was numerically simulated to investigate problems in smoke control and find their countermeasures. A part of the platform, $40m{\times}5m$ floor and 3 m high, and a fire of 1 MW were considered, and the smoke extraction system was assumed to start operation at the onset of the fire. For three different values of the exhaust air flow rate, 0.1, 2, and $4m^3/min-m^2$, the distributions of temperature, concentrations of soot and carbon monoxide, and those of visibility were compared. The time-variations of the number of randomly distributed particles in the space were also investigated for the air flow rates to see the efficiency in smoke control. It was shown that smoke control takes time by lack of air supply. It was also confirmed that air supply from the railway to the platform at emergency is needed so that smoke is able to be controlled efficiently, and that opening the doors at the both ends of the platform is desirable until the fire is completely extinguished.

  • Augmented reality is used in various fields such as culture, education, military, medical. This is a method of recognizing information of an augmented object on the camera. Exhibitions and educational contents for children are already produced in various ways. This research showed the developed contents deliver cultural property information using augmented reality. 'Galgibi AR' and 'Jang Young-sil's Invention AR' allow you to experience cultural assets up close. 'Galgibi AR' is the experience content in the form of 3D blocks. It makes to understand the structure of the zeolite, Galgibi. 'Jang Young-sil's Invention AR' make you to watch out four objects in detail by zooming in, zooming out and rotating. It can also take pictures with the inventions. Both contents implement what we want to deliver accurately through simple content. They increase the enjoyment of cultural heritage through experience contents. This research addressed to help the cultural property information spread to the public by using Augmented Reality.

Tunneling Magnetoresistive Properties of Reactively Sputtered $Fe/Al_2O_3/Co$ Trilayer Junctions ($Fe/Al_2O_3/Co$ 자기 터널링 접합 제작 및 자기수송현상에 관한 연구)

  • We have investigated tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) properties of Fe/$Al_2O_3$/Co magnetic trilayer junctions sputtered on single-crystal Si (001) substrates. $Al_2O_3$ layers with thicknesses of 50~200 $\AA$ were deposited directly on the bottom ferromagnetic layer by a reactive rf sputtering. For comparsion, we prepared Pt/$Al_2O_3$/Pt tunnel junctions whose current-voltage (I-V) characteristics measured at 300 K indicated that reactively sputtered $Al_2O_3$ is a particularly good material for thin insulating barriers and allows us to form pinhole-free tunnel barriers. The magnetic tunnel junctions exhibit changes of tunnel resistance of about 0.1% at 300 K with an applied magnetic field and it was found that most junctions with Co as a top electrode have rather good I-V and TMR characteristics compared to those with Fe as a electrode. These results were discussed in relation to interfacial on the basis of those for Pt/$Al_2O_3$/Pt.

  • Steel frames are increasingly used in commercial buildings. and most steel frames are designed to achieve composite action with the concrete floor slab. The advantages of 'composite construction' are now well understood in terms of structural economy. good performance in service. and ease of construction. But. these conventional composite construction system are difficult to apply steel framed apartment due to their large depth. So. in this study we developed Semi Slim Floor system which could reduce the overall depth of composite beam. Semi Slim Floor system is a method of steel frame multi-story building construction in which the structural depth of each floor is minimised by incorporating the steel floor beams within the depth of the concrete floor slab. Twelve composite slab specimens with different deck-type. slab width. with or without stud bault and concrete topping thickness were tested to evaluate the flexural capacity.

A Numerical Analysis of the Shallow Water Equations Using the Multi-slope MUSCL (다중 경사 MUSCL을 이용한 천수방정식의 수치해석)

  • 천수방정식과 같은 쌍곡선형 미분방정식의 불연속 해에 대한 Riemann 해법은, 1950년대 말 공기동역학 분야에서 S. K. Godunov의 선구적인 시도 이후, 다양한 영역에서 성공적으로 적용되고 있다. 당초 제안된 해법은 공간에 대해 1차 정도였으나, 2차의 정도를 얻을 수 있는 기법이 1970년대 말 B. van Leer에 의해 제안되었으며, MUSCL로 불린다. 서로 인접한 격자의 보존변수가 고려된 경사가 도입되어 두 격자에 의해 공유되는 변의 좌 우에서 선형으로 보존변수가 재구축되는 MUSCL은 제한자와 함께 이용될 때, 구조 격자 체계에서 비교적 단순하면서도 효과적인 적용성이 입증되었다. 그런데, 이 기법을 2차원의 비구조 격자 체계에 적용하는 경우, 인접한 모든 격자의 보존변수를 고려한 평면의 경사를 결정해야 하는 어려움이 따른다. 특히, 삼각형 비구조 격자에 적용할 경우 최적의 평면을 결정하기 위해 Green-Gauss 적분식이나 최소-자승법 등을 이용하게 된다. 이에 비해, 2010년 T. Buffard와 S. Clain이 제안한 다중경사 기법은 격자의 각 변에서 경사가 각각 결정되는 방법으로 계산량이 많은 Green-Gauss 적분식이나 최소자승법을 피할 수 있는 장점이 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 정확해가 알려진 두 경우에 대해 몇 가지 제한자를 적용한 결과를 1차 정도의 해와 함께 비교하였으며, superbee 제한자에 의한 결과가 우수하였으나, 희유파와 충격파가 맞닿는 곳에서 수치 분산이 나타났다. minmod 제한자의 결과가 대체로 무난하였으며, 이를 2차원 댐 붕괴 문제에 적용하여 1차 정도의 해와 비교하였다. 마찰이 없고 초기 수심이 댐 상류에서 10 m, 하류에서 5 m로서 물이 차 있는 경우, 1차 정도의 해에서 나타나는 수치 소산이 2차 정도에서는 발생되지 않았다. 댐 하류에서 초기에 수심이 영으로 바닥이 드러난 경우에서 마찰의 영향을 검토하였다. 마찰이 있는 경우, 마찰 경사 항의 Manning 계수를 0.04로 두었으며, 마찰에 의한 영향이 잘 드러났다. 수심이 50 mm 보다 작은 경우에는 마찰을 적용하지 않았다. 이 연구는 환경부 '차세대 핵심환경기술개발 사업'의 지원에 의한 것이다.
