지난 2월 3일부터 중국 원난성 쿤밍시에서 열린 제4차 동아시아 천문학회 학술회의는 중국ㆍ일본ㆍ한국 등 동아시아의 천문학자 1백20여명이 참석한 가운데 열렸다. '아시아에서의 관측 천체물리학과 그 미래'라는 주제로 열린 이번 회의에서는 1백16편의 논문이 발표되었는데 필자는 중국의 탄휘송박사, 일본의 카이푸 노리오박사와 공동 의장을 맡아 회의를 진행시켰다. 다음 제5차 회의는 2002년 10월에 대만에서 열기로 했다.

우리나라 최초로 시설된 포항방사광가속기는 1988년 착수하여 6년만인 작년말에 준공되었다. B일본에도 없는 제3세대 최신형으로 1천5백억원을 투입한 방사광가속기가 완공되기까지는 6년동안 심혈을 기울여 전 과정을 진두지휘한 포항공대 이동녕 박사의 숨결이 담겨있다. 방사광가속기 준공의 산파역인 이동영 박사에게 앞으로의 설계를 들어보았다.

우리나라 최초로 설치되니 대형 플라스마 발생기가 「한빛」장치가 지난 6월21일 준공되었다. '제 4의 물질상태'라고 불리는 플라스마 발생기기「한빛」장치는 미국 MIT대학에서 3천만 달러를 들여 시설한 것을 영구임대 형식으로 무상 임대받아 한국에 이전, 시설한 것이다. 9월부터 본격 가동될 「한빛」의 운영계획을 준공하기까지 산파역을 맡았던 기초과학지원연구소장 최덕인 박사에게 들어보았다.

자동차 운전자는 자신의 자동차 보험료를 할인 받고자 특약제도를 이용한다. 이 중 이미 외국에서 시행되어 좋은 호응을 받아 국내에서도 시행 되고 있는 승용차 요일제 보험이 있다. 승용차 요일제 보험에 가입하기 위해 의무적으로 장착해야 하는 자동차 운행정보 확인 장치는 예비가입자들로부터 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 하지만 보험가입자(운전자)가 보험사에 운행정보확인장치의 차량운행기록을 보내기 위해 다소 번거로운 과정을 거쳐야 한다. 본 논문에서는 보험개발원에서 제시한 '자동차 운행정보 확인 장치 인증규정'을 바탕으로 보험가입자가 편리하게 차량운행기록을 보험사에게 보내기 위해 단거리 무선통신이 내장되어 있는 자동차 운행 정보 확인 장치의 하드웨어 설계와 이것을 활용한 보험사의 운행정보 수집 시스템에 바로 전송할 수 있는 스마트폰 단말기 모니터 프로그램의 설계에 대해 연구하였다.

동물에서 활성산소계(reactive oxygen species, ROS)의 지속적이고 과도한 노출과 산화스트레스는 생리적 기능의 저하, 노화 또는 많은 질환의 원인이 되고 있으며 항산화제의 투여효과에 대한 연구가 최근 많이 이뤄지고 있다. 본 연구는 Vit. C의 공급이 절대. 필요한 guinea pig를 공시하여 녹차 추출물 중 항산화제인 polyphenol과 Vit. C의 경구 투여에 따른 정소 내 정자형성과 항산화기능의 변화 및 액상 돼지정액에 첨가 후 정액성상 변화에 대하여 조사하였다. (중략)

오존(O$_3$)은 강한 산화제로써 광화학 스모그의 주요 원인이 되며, 산화력이 강해 눈을 자극하고, 호흡기 장애를 일으키는 등 인간 건강에 영향을 미치며 식물 및 재산에도 심각한 피해를 주는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 오존농도는 대기 중에서 NOx(NO＋NO$_2$)와 VOCs의 농도 비에 의해 영향을 받는데, 이 비가 작을 경우 오존생성은 NOx 농도에 의해 좌우(controlled)되고 클 경우는 VOCs의 농도에 좌우된다. (중략)

${\cdot}$ 한국토지개발공사는 전국 37개 택지개발사업지구에서 단독주택지 5,493필지(361,127평), 상업용지 및 업무용지 1,465필지(389,736평)을 수의계약의 방법으로 매각하고 있다. ${\cdot}$ 수의계약으로 매각하는 단독주택지를 매입하는 경우에는 주택공급에 관한 규칙 제 17조의 규정에 의한 아파트 재당첨금지 규정 (민영 5년, 국민 10년)이 적용되지 않는다. ${\cdot}$ 토지시장이 비수기이고 현재 토지가격이 부동산 경기의 침체국면에 있는 가격임을 고려할 때 실수요자에게는 유리한 상황이라 할 수 있다.

Covalent modification of a protein with polyethylene glycol (PEG) has become one of the most widely used and well established drug enhancement strategies in the biopharmaceutical industry. The general benefits enjoyed by PEGylation, such as prolonged serum half-lives or reduced immunogenicity in vivo, are well known. By now the PEGylation process has been performed with purified proteins, and it is required to recover the desired PEGylate by a multi-step purification process. The ultimate aim of our research is to develop an integrated process of PEGylation and in vitro refolding starting with inclusion body material. For this, we investigated the feasibility that a protein could be PEGylated under a denaturing condition and also the PEGylated proteins could be refolded correctly. Using lipase as a model protein, we found that it was PEGylated in the presence of 8M urea and that the PEG molecules covalently attached to lipase did not appear to hinder its refolding.

As the number of TV channels rapidly grows, the systematic marketing and PR communication of broadcasters are becoming more and more important. To overcome the challenges the sharply increased competition poses, TV stations ave to intensify their strategic marketing efforts. This paper analyses the editorial information aired about the broadcasters and their TV programming as part of the PR efforts made. This present research project is based on one week periods of analysis of TV programming produced and aired by German broadcasters. The program analysis of the five TV channels included in this study revealed a total of 406 cases in which editorial references were made. The result shows no systematic differences between the public and commercial Broadcasters. Channel-specific differences are, however, obvious. PR communication embedded in the regular programs is increasingly tied to media organization and frequently occurs in the reporting of journalistic content. The high number of promotions as part of informational, and even more so as part of magazine and news formats, must be viewed as problematic. Program related branding and the specific tools used to promote the programs provided further evidence regarding the importance of media economic factors. TV channels not only promote their own programs, but also those of affiliated stations, and the increasing influence of economic considerations will have long-range consequences on the variety and quality of the journalistic output. The study furthermore revealed that TV channels utilize program promotion at any time of the day.
