Rice Production, Distribution and Utilization in China (중국의 쌀 생산, 유통 및 이용 현황)

  • 쌀은 중국에서 중요한 식량작물로 제9차 5개년 계획(1966-2000년) 동안 재배면적 31.4백만 ha이며 생산량은 단위 ha당 6,303kg으로 198백만톤에 이르며 이는 재배면적으로는 식량작물의 $27.7\%$, 그리고 생산량으로는 전체식량작물의 $40\%$를 각각 점하고 있다. 이러한 재배면적과 생산량은 각각 세계전체 면적과 생산량의 $20.7\%$$33.7\%$를 차지하는 많은 량이다. 중국의 남부지역은 전지역의 $73.5\%$가 이모작으로 재배되며 주품종은 Indica이다. 중국의 중부지역은 이모작과 일모작의 재배형태가 2:3으로 공존하고 있으며 양쯔강 이북은 주로 일모작의 형태이다. 중국의 쌀 재배면적은 1960년대 이후 점차 증가하다가 1980년대 후반부터 정체되었다가 최근 90년대 말에 이르러서는 재배면적의 감소가 가속화되고 있으나 단보당 생산량은 꾸준히 증가하고 있다. 2001년 중국의 쌀 소비량은 138백만톤으로 이의 $85.2\%$는 식량용으로, $5.8\%$는 사료용으로, $1.3\%$는 가공용, $1.5-2.0\%$는 수출용으로 그리고 $1.2\%$는 종자용으로 소비되었다. WTO체제에 들어서도 중국의 쌀 생산에는 크게 영향을 받지 않을 것으로 여겨지는데 그 이유로는 충분한 생산능력과 자급률, 쌀의 낮은($4\%$) 국제교역비율, 총생산량에 대한 낮은 쿼터비율 등을 들 수 있다. 그러나 WTO체제 가입에 따른 압력 또한 존재하는 것이 사실인데 그것은 낮은 품질, 국제가격보다 높은 국내가격 등을 들 수 있다. 향후 중국 쌀의 발전적 전략들로는 쌀의 안정적 발전을 지속하는 일, 쌀 재배구조 조정과 함께 높은 미질을 가지는 품종육종, 기계화를 비롯한 경작기술의 발달, 쌀과 부산물 가공기술의 개발연구, 특정기능을 함유하는 유전공학적 기술의 적용, 토지와 도시화 그리고 식량순환에 시스템의 개혁 등 과학기술을 고양하는 일 등을 들 수 있다.

Proper Transplanting Time for Improving the Rice Quality in the Southern Alpine Area (남부산간고랭지에서 쌀 품질 향상을 위한 적정 이앙시기)

  • The characters associated with the quality of rice and the factors involved in the production of high quality rice as the proper transplanting time was examined at Unbong the southern alpine area from 2002 to 2004. The rice cultivars tested were Samcheonbyeo (Early maturing one), Sangmibyeo (Sub-early maturing one). The number of spikelets were increased as earlier the transplanting date in all cultivar, The ripened grain rates were highest transplanted on May 21 for Samcheonbyeo, and May 1 for Sangmibyeo. The highest head rice yield was obtained when transplanted on May 21 and May 1 for Samcheonbyeo and Sangmibyeo, respectively. The optimum transplanting dates according to maturing types with respect to the yield of head rice, ripened grain rates and rice quality were May 21 for early maturing type and May 1 for sub-early maturing type.

Grain Quality of Commercial Brand Rice Produced in Kyungpook Province (경북지역 브랜드쌀의 품질 특성)

  • This study was performed to examine the relationship between quality characteristics and palatability on 21 varieties of commercial brand rice in North Kyeong-sang Province, Korea. The average percentages of translucent kernels, an important factor in rice quality, were the higher in the Ilpumbyeo cultivar than other six rice cultivars including Mihyangbyeo, Ilbanbyeo, Chuchungbyeo, Saechuchungbyeo, Hidomebore, and Nampyeongbyeo. The mean contents of amylose among commercial brand rice were not significantly different. The protein content was inversely associated with palatability (Toyo value). The sensory evaluation showed that clumpiness was positively correlated with the moisture content. The preference in color of cooked rice was increased as the percentage of translucent kernels increased. The roasted nutty flavor was highly correlated with the cooked rice with high protein content, while the chewiness was associated with high moisture and low amylose content.

Effects of Bacterial Leaf Blight Occurrence on Rice Yield and Grain Quality in Different Rice Growth Stage (벼 생육시기별 흰잎마름병 발병이 쌀 수량감소 및 미질에 미치는 영향)

  • We investigated the first symptom emerging date of rice bacterial leaf blight disease during four years from 2002 to 2005. The disease occurrence date was earlier 20$\sim$30 days in 2005 than that of 2002. The damage in different rice growth stage by the bacterial disease on rice yield and grain quality in southern part of Korea was examined. The disease decreased rice yield following by increased infection rates. Slight loss in rice yield and brown head rice rate were observed at below 10% level of infected leaf area, while over 25% infected leaf area caused the significant decrease in rice yield and brown head rice rate. More than 50% of the infected leaf area rate caused 29% yield reduction in case of infection at panicle formation stage and 18% of brown head rice rate. Cooked rice quality was also affected in the diseased rice by damage in palatability score and viscosity.

Correlations of Irrigation Water Quality to Yield and Quality of Rice Grain (관개용수 수질과 벼 수확량, 미질과의 상관관계 규명)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of irrigation water pollution on the yield and grain quality of rice. It acquires fundamental data to set up water quality standards for irrigation and produce agricultural safety products. The correlations of BOD, T-N, T-P, pH, ECw of the irrigation water with yield, grain appearance quality, and the protein content were evaluated. The field and pot experiments were conducted by using Japonica of Oryza sativa L. during 2 years. BOD concentration in irrigation water effects strongly on grain appearance quality and yield of rice. T-N in irrigation water has strong effect on the yield, appearance, and quality of rice. T-P concentration in irrigation water have not any correlation with yield and quality of rice. pH showed strongly negative correlation with maturity ratio(MTR), 1000 grain weight(TGW), and yield of rice(YLD) as r=-0.803~-0.828(p<0.001) and have no effect on the appearance quality of rice. $EC_w$ indicating salt content showed strongly negative correlation with MTR, TGW, number of grains per panicles(NGP), and number of panicles per unit area(NPM) as r=-0.759~-0.798, and with YLD as -0.753.

Characteristics of Agronomy to Selected 3 Lines from Native Green Waxy Rice(Oryza sativa L.) (재래종 녹색현미찰벼로부터 선발한 3 계통의 농업적 특성)

  • In order to find out better cultivation practices for environmentally-friendly agriculture, an experiment with four fertilizer levels and one cultivar, 'Boseokchal', and three lines, GG-05-03, GG-05-04, and GG-05-07 was carried out. Those lines had been selected from native green waxy rice over a period of five years (2004~2008). The tillering numbers of both the GG-05-03 and GG-05-04 lines were similar, but GG-05-07 was less than those. Regarding plant height, both GG-05-04 and GG-05-07 were higher than 'Boseokchal', while GG-05-03 was similar to it. There was no marked difference of quantitative character amond the three lines regarding grain weight and grain number of ear. 1000-grain weights of all three lines were slightly light compared to 'Boseokchal' cultivar. Head rice yields of both the GG-05-03 and GG-05-07 lines were less than 'Boseokchal', but the GG-05-04 line was similar to it. Only total lipids of all compositions of brown rice showed a slightly different rate compared to 'Boseokchal'. These results summarize that the GG-05-07 line was shown to be better than both the GG-05-03 and GG-05-04 lines for environmentally-friendly agriculture practices.

원적외선 곡물건조기 개발

  • 국내 보급되고 있는 곡물건조기는 열풍형 순환식 곡물건조기가 주종을 이루고 있는데, 이건조기의 경우 곡물이 순환하면서 열풍공급과 템퍼링과정을 반복하면서 건조가 이루어지는 대류열전달 방식을 채택하고 있다. 대류열전달 방식은 복사열전달 방식에 비해 열전달률이 낮기 때문에 건조속도와 열효율이 떨어지며, 건조시 미질 향상과 건조비용 절감에 한계가 있어 왔다. 따라서 건조에너지의 절감과 동시에 고품질 쌀 생산을 할 수 있는 새로운 형식의 곡물건조기술을 확립하고자 원적외선 곡물건조기를 개발하였다. 원적외선은 0.56~l,000$\mu\textrm{m}$의 전자파로서 세라믹 도료표면에 열을 가하면 원적외선 파장대의 강한 에너지를 얻을 수 있다. 이같은 원적외선 에너지를 농산물에 조사시키면 열이 침투하게되고 동시에 농산물의 내부온도가 상승함에 따라 활발한 분자운동을 하면서 수분을 표면으로 이동시키기 때문에 열풍건조방법에 비해 열전달효율이 높고, 농산물을 보다 균일하게 건조가 가능하므로 좋은 품질의 쌀을 생산할 수 있는 특징을 가지고 있다. 시작기는 1회 3,800kg을 건조할 수 있도록 설계하였고, 템퍼링실, 건조실, 열풍실, 승강기 등으로 구성되었다. 원적외선 방사체의 형태는 실린더형이고, 방사체가 설치된 열풍실 위쪽은 타공망, 아래쪽은 방사량을 높이기 위하여 일부 개방된 구조로 제작하였다. 본 연구에서 구명된 원적외선 방사체 길이와 조사거리는 각각 1,470mm, 125mm가 적절한 것으로 나타났다. 시작기의 성능시험을 열풍건조기(대비구)와 비교한 결과 소음은 대비구에서의 94.12dB보다 13% 가량 낮게 나타났고, 건조온도를 45$^{\circ}C$로 설정하고 벼를 건조했을 때 건감률 0.58%,wb로 대비구의 0.47%,wb 보다 23% 높았고, 건조소요에너지도 470kcal/kg - water로 2%의 절감되었다. 또한 건조한 벼를 도정하여 색, 냄새, 윤기, 찰기 등에 대한 관능검사결과는 원적외선 건조방법이 종합기호도가 6.37으로 열풍건조방법 6.13보다 우수한 평가를 받았다. 건조비용은 시작기의 구입가격이 20% 비싸기 때문에 시간당 고정비가 높았으나, 건조성능이 우수하여 건조비용이 69,350원/톤으로 대비구보다 14% 절감되는 것으로 나타났다.

Electrogustometric Study on the Standard Threshold Values of Four Taste Qualities for the Korean College Women (Electrogustometer를 이용한 한국여대생의 사원미 미각 역치에 관한 연구)

  • A study was carried out to investigate the threshold values of four taste qualities by using electrogustometer for Korean female college students. The mean values of taste threshold before the treatments were for $7.5{\mu}A$, sweet taste area, $19.6{\mu}A$, salty taste area, $23.5{\mu}A$, sour taste area, $18.4{\mu}A$, bitter taste area and $50.7{\mu}A$, middle area, respectively. The thresholds of taste for the each area of tongue of the after-treatments were more sensitive than those of the before-treatments except the after-treatment with sodium chloride in which the sensitivity was much reduced. There were no significant differences between the thresholds of left and right side of the tongue. (p<0.05). Taste qualities of electrical stimuli were also evaluated by using electrogustometer. The major tastes (Approx. 90%) of the feelings for the electrical stimuli were metallic, sour, bitter and salty.

Effects of Application Levels of Fertilizer on the Susceptibility to Bacterial Leaf Blight, Yield and Quality of Grains in Nineteen Rice Cultivars in Jeonnam Region (전남지방에 있어서 시비수준이 벼 품종별 백엽고병 감수성과 수량 및 미질에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was conducted in Jeonnam to investigate the effects of fertilizer amounts at two application levels on disease severity of bacterial leaf blight, yield and qualify of rice grains using nineteen rice cultivars. Incidence of bacterial leaf blight was more severe in the field with higher amount of fertilizer application. Disease severity was also different depending upon maturity of rice cultivars of early maturing group, however, the flag, second and third leaves were diseased in rice cultivars of medium late maturing group. Such differences were more obvious in the field with higher amount of fertilizer application than in the field with ordinary fertilizer application. Rice cultivars such as Taebaegbyeo, Hangangchalbyeo, Baegunchalbyeo, Palgwangbyeo and Milyang 42 were resistant whereas rice cultivars such as Milyang 30, Geumgangbyeo, Nagdongbyeo and Jinjubyeo were susceptible to bacterial leaf blight in both treatments. However, fertilization rate and percentage of ripeness were decreased resulting in heavy loss of yield. The rate of green-kerneled rice was increased resulting in poor qualify.

Mapping QTL for Grain Quality Traits Using an Introgression Line Population from a Cross between Ilpumbyeo and Moroberekan in Rice (일품벼/모로베레칸 이입계통을 이용한 미질특성 관련 QTL 분석)

  • We conducted a QTL analysis of grain quality traits using 117 $BC_3F_4$ and $BC_3F_5$ lines developed from a cross between Ilpumbyeo and Moroberekan. Genotypes of 117 $BC_3F_5$ lines were determined using 134 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. A linkage map constructed using 134 SSR markers was employed to characterize quantitative trait loci (QTL). The 117 $BC_3F_4$ and $BC_3F_5$ lines were evaluated for eleven grain quality traits in 2005 and 2006. A total of 18 QTLs were identified for eleven traits, and the phenotypic variance explained by each QTL ranged from 9.9% to 35.2%. Moroberekan alleles contributed positive effects in the Ilpumbyeo background at two QTL loci for 1,000 grain weight. Four QTLs, two for chalky rice and one each for 1,000 grain weight and head rice were consistently detected in two consecutive years indicating that these QTLs are stable. Clusters of QTLs were observed in three chromosome regions. One cluster harboring five QTLs including head rice and brown rice ratio near SSR markers RM190 and RM314 was detected on chromosome 6. Another cluster harboring grain weight and white belly was detected on chromosome 2. Increase in white belly at this locus might be due to the increase in grain weight due to the presence of the Moroberekan allele. The Moroberekan alleles at two QTL loci, gw3 and gw4 associated with increased grain weight might be useful in breeding programs to develop high-yielding cultivars.
