Assessing Grain Quality Properties of Reclaimed Wastewater Irrigation (하수처리수의 농업용수 재이용에 따른 벼의 미질특성 분석)

  • This study assess the effects of reclaimed wastewater irrigation on grain quality-related properties of milled rice. To conduct the effects of wastewater reuse on rice quality, the contents of amylose, protein, and milled head rice recovery were analyzed. The water and the soil quality were monitored, and the grain characteristic was analyzed using a NIRS (Near Infra-Red Spectroscopy). The value of the grain properties of the rice which was cultivated with the reclaimed wastewater didn't show a big difference from other common rice. The significant difference by each processing distinction was shown at the significance level of 5% in the statistical result.

Influence of Rice Water Weevil (Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus) Damage on Growth and Grain Quality in Rice (벼물바구미 피해정도가 벼 생육 및 미질에 미치는 영향)

  • A field experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of water weevil damage on growth and grain guality in rice. Plant height was shortened, number of tillers per hill decreased and maximum tillering stage delayed in damaged field by rice water weevil. Heading date was delayed by 1-2days, culm lenght shortened, panicle lengthened, number of panicles decreaced, number of panicles per spikelet increased, ripened grain ratio decreased in damaged field by rice water weevil. Yield per 10a was decreased 4-22% in damaged field compared with that in undamaged field by rice water weevil, yield loss in late transplanting (June 23) was larger than that in early transplanting (May 20). Imperfect kerml rice, especially green kernel rice, was increased in damaged field by rice water weevil.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the cultural practices for improvement of rice grain quality under different cultivation times and fertilizer levels at panicle initiation, heading and different drainage times after heading. The obtained results could be summarized as follows. In consideration of brown rice whole kernel form, and analyzed physico-chemical properties cultivation time required the optimum season before June 5. Feltilizer level at panicle initiation and heading needed 3kg/10a or less. Drainage time desired late drainage at 30-40 days after heading.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigated the characteristics of grain appearance, chemical components. gelatinization, and palatability of cooked rice on each rachis branches as harvested from the transplanting plot of May 20 and June 5 in each two varieties of early-maturing and late-maturing types. In evaluation of rachis branches, the percentage of ripended grain and 1,000 grain weight were found to be high and heavy at upper part of panicle. The factors influencing palatability such as maximum viscosity and breakdown as gelatinization characteristics, and hardness, apringiness, cohesiveness and chewiness as texture characteristics of cooked rice were found to be high at upper part of panicle , indicating the parlability was favored more at upper part than at lower part of panicle due to the genetics and physiological metabolism of rice plants.
