  • 본 논문에서는 웹 상의 미술 작품 검색하기 위해 기존의 키워드 매칭 검색 대신에 시맨틱 기반의 확장된 검색 방법을 소개한다. 온톨로지를 만들기 위해서는 많은 온톨로지 관련 언어가 있다. 그 중 최근의 연구 방향은 RDFS/RDF와 OWL로 작성된 온톨로지와 온톨로지의 추론 분야이다. 지금까지의 정보 검색이 단순한 구문중심의 검색이었다면 앞으로의 정보 검색은 의미 중심의 지식 기반의 정보 검색을 발전할 것이다. 이에 본 논문이 온톨로지를 활용한 지식 기반 검색 시스템을 제안한다.

  • The standing plaster figure entitled is an early work from Choi Man Lin's 'Eve' series. It reflects the aesthetics of abstract sculpture in the period following Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule. Modern and contemporary sculptures can be made from a wide variety of materials, so the particular selection of materials and expressive techniques are indicative of both the artist's intentions and the zeitgeist of the moment. In this regard, the materials and production techniques used in provide important basic data for the chronological study of Choi's artistic development. In this study, scientific analysis was conducted to reveal the production techniques used in the work. The scope of appropriate conservation treatment was decided through consultation between several people with decision-making authority. First, the internal structure was inspected using X-CT scanning, and a material analysis was conducted to identify the formal characteristics, materials, and production techniques found in the work. As the analyses revealed the work to be in a relatively stable state, only minimal conservation treatment was applied based on the opinions expressed by the institution housing the work, by a former assistant of the artist, and in an interview granted by the artist during his lifetime.

Untitled Effect: Effect of Type of Artwork Title on Audience Reaction (무제의 효과: 미술품 제목의 유형이 관람자 반응에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the impacts of types of titles of artworks, especially 'untitled', on audience reponse. Generally, naming can be a tool to represent characteristics of objects, affecting their market value and price. Since contemporary artworks are often untitled, this study aimed to investigate how naming 'untitled' would affect audience response. As the size of arts market increasing, how the audience, potential buyer of artworks, responds to artworks is important. Based on prior research, we hypothesized that the audience would have different level of understanding, attention, attractiveness and curiosity to untitled artworks, controlling other factors. In the regression results from the data of 305 respondents, we found that people had significantly lower level of understanding and attention on untitled artworks than on artworks of explanatory or associative titles. In addition, respondents showed significantly higher level of curiosity when the artwork was an painting. This study confirmed the assertions of prior research that titles are indeed important, and further implied that artwork creators should be more concerned on naming their artworks since titles as well as artworks themselves could actually affect audience response.

  • The aim of this thesis is to investigate exhibition spaces which are being expanded and transformed concurrently with social phenomena that are also the result of rapid changes, all of which are reflective of a modern society in transition. Such investigation would also include an analysis of changes in the viewing public and artworks themselves, and also an assessment of the public nature of art and its effective aspects. Expansion of exhibition spaces and the increasing connection between art and the public have very important ramifications, in many respects. They present opportunities for the viewing public to immerse themselves in artistic spaces, with some reaching further into other activities - activities that they often share with other individuals. This also leads them to expand their range of activities, turning them into more mobile, proactive audiences. In connection, many corporations have turned their attention to this public aspect of art, which has resulted in a display of art in different types of spaces. The government also began to adopt 'public art' as a matter of policy, using it as a medium of communication between the state and its populace. The public aspect of art, being highlighted as a result of expansion and diversification of exhibition spaces, will have a significant impact not only on the viewing public, but also on the art market. This represents a momentous change for creators of art, which naturally warrants close scrutiny and research.
