  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the research status and trends related to the industrial mathematics based on text mining techniques with a sample of 4910 papers collected in the SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics from 1970 to 2019. The R program was used to collect titles, abstracts, and key words from the papers and to analyze topic modeling techniques based on LDA algorithm. As a result of the coherence score on the collected papers, 20 topics were determined optimally using the Gibbs sampling methods. The main results were as follows. First, studies on industrial mathematics were conducted in a variety of mathematics fields, including computational mathematics, geometry, mathematical modeling, topology, discrete mathematics, probability and statistics, with a focus on analysis and algebra. Second, 5 hot topics (mathematical biology, nonlinear partial differential equation, discrete mathematics, statistics, topology) and 1 cold topic (probability theory) were found based on time series regression analysis. Third, among the fields that were not reflected in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum, numeral system, matrix, vector in space, and complex numbers were extracted as the contents to be covered in the high school mathematical curriculum. Finally, this study suggested strategies to activate industrial mathematics in Korea, described the study limitations, and proposed directions for future research.

  • This paper presents a dynamic crack propagation algorithm with Rayleigh damping effect based on the MLS(Moving Least Squares) Difference Method. Dynamic equilibrium equation and constitutive equation are derived by considering Rayliegh damping and governing equations are discretized by the MLS derivative approximation; the proportional damping, which has not been properly treated in the conventional strong formulations, was implemented in both the equilibrium equation and constitutive equation. Dynamic equilibrium equation including time relevant terms is integrated by the Central Difference Method and the discrete equations are simplified by lagging the velocity one step behind. A geometrical feature of crack is modeled by imposing the traction-free condition onto the nodes placed at crack surfaces and the effect of movement and addition of the nodes at every time step due to crack growth is appropriately reflected on the construction of total system. The robustness of the proposed numerical algorithm was proved by simulating single and multiple crack growth problems and the effect of proportional damping on the dynamic crack propagation analysis was effectively demonstrated.

  • In photogrammetry, single photo resection is a method of determining exterior orientation parameters corresponding to a position and an attitude of a camera at the time of taking a photograph using known interior orientation parameters, ground coordinates, and image coordinates. In this study, we proposed a single photo resection algorithm that determines the exterior orientation parameters of the camera using cosine law and linear equation-based three-dimensional coordinate transformation. The proposed algorithm first calculated the scale between the ground coordinates and the corresponding normalized coordinates using the cosine law. Then, the exterior orientation parameters were determined by applying linear equation-based three-dimensional coordinate transformation using normalized coordinates and ground coordinates considering the calculated scale. The proposed algorithm was not sensitive to the initial values by using the method of dividing the longest distance among the combinations of the ground coordinates and dividing each ground coordinates, although the partial derivative was required for the nonlinear equation. In addition, since the exterior orientation parameters can be determined by using three points, there was a stable advantage in the geometrical arrangement of the control points.
