본 논문에서는 AAL-2/ATM 통신망 환경에서 멀티미디어 통신을 구현하기 위한 멀티미디어 동기화 기능으로 VGC 기반의 SRTS/AAL-2를 제안한다. 제안된 멀티미디어 동기화 알고리즘에서는 가변 비트율 멀티미디어 정보의 클럭 주파수 복원을 위하여 VGC(Virtual Global Clock)을 구성하고, 이를 기반으로 한 SRTS방식의 미디어 내부 동기와, MM-SSCFS(Multimedia-SSCS)/AAL-2 프로토콜을 사용한 미디어 간의 동기를 유지하는 방법을 제안하였다. 본 논문의 실험 환경으로는 Fore ATM 교환기(155 Mbps $\times$8 port)를 사용해서 소규모 B-ISDN/ATM 통신망을 구성하였고, SUN Workstatin Solaris 2.5에 접속된 Fore ATM 접속 카드 SBA-200에서 지원하는 XTI(X/Opne Transport Interface)-API를 사용하였다.

This study is intended to propose quality criteria and Web metrics for usability quality evaluation of multimedia Web sites. Recently, applications of the Web sites are not limited to the area of industry and operating as it integrates the new technology. Also as information super highway becomes common with development or network technology, multimedia Web site is on the rise due to various use of multimedia attributes. Therefore this study expands to apply HTML based Web site quality evaluation studied in Software engineering, HCI, Hypermedia to multimedia Web site, and suggests new metrics by integrating flash usability which is expanding its portion in multimedia Web site lately. The Web metrics proposed in this study are verified by heuristic evaluation from a group of expert. It analyses the results of quantitative and qualitative qualify evaluation on Web Award Korea by comparing the award-winning, high-quality Web site with non-winning Web sites. This study can be used to establish guideline for high-quality multimedia Web site development in the future.

The availability of many smartphone applications and ubiquitous Wi-Fi technology has greatly spread the uses of smartphones. Particularly smartphones with the locative media services in tourism are booming because location-based technology such as GPS is well suit with tourism and tourists' needs. Smartphones also overcome the technological limit of traditional information media such as printed book, newspaper, etc. Based on the Niche Theory, the study examines the competitive relationships among information media that are used in tourism including smartphones, traditional paper publications, and computers. The paper also examines the niche of each medium based on the theory and finds which medium is more effective and preferred by people who utilize the services before and during their travel.

멀티미디어란 용어는 1970년대에는 주로 컴퓨터나 통신 전문가들 사이에서만 사용되는 전문용어로 여겨졌으나, 1980년대 말부터는 사용이 본격화 되어서 최근에는 사회 각 분야에서 보편적인 용어로 자리잡고 있다. 그러나 대부분의 경우 멀티미디어의 의미를 정확하게 정의하지 않고 사용함으로써 개념상의 혼란이 자주 발생하고 있다. 이는 멀티(multi)라는 단어가 의미하듯이 여러 미디어가 디지틀과 같은 커뮤니케이션 관련 기술의 발전으로 융합화된 결과로서 관련 미디어에 따라 이에 대한 이해의 관점이 다르고, 또한 계속되는 기술 발전으로 아직 최종 완결이 되지 않은 진행형적 현상이기 때문이다.

컨텐츠를 저작하기 위하여 멀티미디어 요소로 사용되는 그래픽, 이미지, 오디오, 비디오 등의 여러 요소의 상호작용적인 관계를 저작할 수 있는 MPEG-4에 관하여 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 연구의 결과는 저작과 재생뿐만 아니라 서비스, 유통 등에 대해 전반적으로 다루어진다. 개인용 컴퓨터의 사용과 더불어 휴대폰, PDA와 같은 무선 인터넷의 사용 빈도가 현저하게 증가하고 있으며, 모바일 환경에 MPEG-4 적용을 시도하는 것은 큰 의의를 가진다. 본 논문에서는 PC 환경에서 개발된 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 저작도구를 바탕으로 PDA 환경에 적합한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 저작 방법을 제시하고 제안한 방법을 적용한 저작도구를 제시한다.

This study analyzes the perception survey of the general public on the problems of a neologism(new words), which are frequently used in media media, and derives improvement measures and implications based on the data. In general, it can be seen that the creed is exposed and used indiscriminately through media, and those in their 20s and 30s are positive for the use of new words and those in their 50s and 60s are relatively negative. The biggest problem is that excessive use of creed can cause conflict and alienation between generations, and the need for correct Korean use is recognized overall as it can enhance Hangeul destruction and inappropriate social awareness. However, media outlets often use new words in a positive way to induce interest and enrich content by using them in the right place for the latest trends, such as small but certain happiness. As an alternative to this problem, self-purification of media workers is the most important, and it is recommended to encourage proper use of Korean through media literacy education and campaigns.

자바 환경에서 데이터베이스 연동을 위한 표준 인터페이스를 위해서 Sun에서 JDBC를 제시하고 있으며, 본 연구에서는 객체지향 멀티미디어 데이터베이스 바다-IV 시스템에 대한 JDBC 인터페이스를 위한 바다-IV/JDBC 드라이버를 구현하였다. 바다-IV/JDBC 드라이버는 별도의 라이브러리 없이 순수한 자바 코드로 개발하였으며, 데이터베이스 서버에 직접 연동하는 방법을 사용하여 고성능을 추구하였다. 또한, 멀티미디어 데이터베이스를 위한 BLOB, CLOB 등의 변경기능과 Collection 타입에 대한 기능을 확장 구현하였으며, 사용자는 바다-IV/JDBC를 사용하여 바다-IV 서버와 연결하여 SQL 문을 사용한 자바 응용 서비스의 개발이 가능하며, 동일한 응용 서비스를 JDBC를 지원하는 다른 데이터베이스를 사용한 응용 서비스로 쉽게 변경할 수 있다.

멀티미디어 통신 시스템은 멀티미디어의 특성상 대용량 데이터를 처리하기 위한 버퍼 관리기법이 요구된다. 버퍼에 있는 데이터를 전달하는 방식에는 데이터를 제공하는 서버가 데이터 흐름을 제어하는 Push 방식과 데이터를 제공받는 클라이언트가 데이터 흐름을 제어하는 Pull 방식이 있다. 그러나 RTP를 사용하는 기존의 멀티미디어 통신 시스템의 경우 서버와 클라이언트 사이에 Push 방식과 Pull 방식 중의 하나만을 제공하기 때문에 다양한 미디어의 재생을 지원하기에는 한계가 있고, 인터렉티브한 통신이 불가능하다. 더욱이, Push/Pull 두 가지 방식을 모두 지원한다하더라도 단일화된 버퍼 구조를 제공하지 않아 메모리 사용의 낭비가 있다는 단점이 있다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 , 본 논문에서는 RTP를 사용하는 멀티미디어 통신환경에서 각각 단일화된 버퍼구조 구조를 가지고 있는 서버와 클라이언트 사이에 Push 방식과 Pull 방식의 전송방식을 모두를 지원할 수 있는 통합된 Push/Pull 전송 모델을 제안한다. 이 기법은 서버와 클라이언트 사이에서 Peer-to-Peer 개념으로 인터랙티브한 Push/Pull 전송을 지원할 뿐만 아니라 일관된 인터페이스를 지원하는 단일 버퍼 구조를가짐으로써 시스템의 메모리 효율을 향상시킬 수 있다.

최근 멀티미디어 자료(Multimedia Data)들을 이용한 멀티미디어 상연물(Multimedia Presentation)의 제작에 많은 관심이 쏟아지고 있다. 한편, 멀티미디어 상연물들의 효과적인 사용을 위해서는 멀티미디어 상연물과 데이터베이스 시스템(Database System)의 통합(Integration)이 필요하며 이에 그래프 타입(Graph Type)을 이용하여 표현되고 있는 멀티미디어 상연물의 검색을 위한 검색 언어(Query Language)의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 검색언어는 멀티미디어 자료들의 물리적 특징과 내용(Content), 상연물을 표현하는 데이터 타입(Data Type)을 표현할 수 있어야 한다. 또한 검색 언어는 사용자(end-user)가 손쉽게 사용할 수 있어야 한다. 이에 앞서 언급된 멀티미디어 상연물 검색 언어가 갖추어야할 요소들을 가지고 있으며 또한 사용자가 편리(user-friendly)하게 사용하는 visual language의 formal basis가 되는 calculus에 바탕을 둔 검색 언어인 GCaluculus/S를 소개한다.

This paper proposes a multimedia retrival query lanfuage SQL/MR(SQL/Mulitmedia Reteival) to presrnt query results including multimeadia data temporal-spatially for retrival-oriented multimedia applications.Es-pecially, we describe the syntax of SQL/MR, query examples, and algorithms to process the temporai-spatial layout tags. SQL/MR extends the SELECT clause of SQL to eliminate time-comsuming authoring efforts for every query retrieval. SQL/MR can the utilized in relational DBMSs, which store multimedia data separately in minomedia type fields.
