  • Depression is a serious psychological disease that is expected to afflict an increasing number of people. And studies on depression have been conducted in the context of social media because social media is a platform through which users often frankly express their emotions and often reveal their mental states. In this study, large amounts of Korean text were collected and analyzed to determine whether such data could be used to detect depression in users. This study analyzed data collected from Twitter users who had and did not have depressive tendencies between January 2016 and February 2019. The data for each user was separately analyzed before and after the appearance of depressive tendencies to see how their expression changed. In this study the data were analyzed through co-occurrence word analysis, topic modeling, and sentiment analysis. This study's automated data collection method enabled analyses of data collected over a relatively long period of time. Also it compared the textual characteristics of users with depressive tendencies to those without depressive tendencies.

From a media archaeological point of view, it tracks in what cultural and technical context the electronic entertainment called "Pump It Up", which has been popular since the late 1990s, has been accepted and used by gamers. The big trend of 'Pump' took place through a "performative shift" of gamers' creative game performing, and the rise and fall of the 'Pump' took place through competitions and interactions between imaginaries and practices that each subject surrounded the game had. In conclusion, it suggests the necessity of media archaeological research on various genres of arcade games.

Accordingly, this study was conducted to analyze how archiving data that art museums have developed so farcan be provided significantly to visitors and generate a contemporary appreciation code. This study intended to solve the problems in case study analysis through the restructuralization of information that reflected visitors' appreciation activities as the principal agent. The structure of information, which was reframed for multilayered information approach and use by keyword, is meaningful as it has developed an information structure to mainly enhance visitors' understanding. • In this study, I have researched the theories about Gibson's real affordance and Norman's perceived affordance which are central fact of affordance, And I have examined the context of affordance in smart-phone interface which was consist of affordance and signifier with viewpoint of amalgamation of Gibson & Norman. The results of this study are as follows; The first, Gibson's real affordance is a physical space in ubiquitous environment that interact through the behavioral space is composed with physical space and electronic space. Norman's perceived affordance is mediated to electronic space and signifier makes a behaviroal space which provide the clue of interaction. The second, signifier can be categorized into visceral, behavioral and reflective signifier based on three brain actions which are visceral, behavior, and reflection. Through the categorization, we can grasp that behavioral and reflective signifies generate visceral signifier. The third, the context of affordance in smart-phone has the structure of circulation. The structure of circulation is as follows: Real affordance makes the perceived affordance, the perceive affordance makes the signifiers and the signifiers make new real affordance. This study could provide the theoretical basis for using signifier in smart-phone interface design.

  • Communication of art and the expansion of roles are some of the important discourses of art. For a while, many attempts were made to overcome the enjoyment of art by only a few elites and the alienation of roles. In the meanwhile, due to its formative nature, media art has contributed to the various expansion of roles as a familiar art in society and by communicating with the public in various play contents and industrial context. This study will take a step further and examined whether media art can assess and be used in social issues through the characteristic analysis of 'media art information visualization.' The general field of information visualization only focuses on the clarity of information delivery, so it is effective for intuitively identifying various information. However, stiff visual expression must improve user-friendly functions in an era in which users' sensibility is increasing, and it only focuses on the effectiveness of information delivery that its secondary social problem such as personal information protection must be compensated. Thus, this research analyze the characteristics of case works to examine how the visualization of media art information can approach social problems creatively, seek the expansion of the role of art and compensate the areas that general information visualization is missing.

  • The recent crises of Marxism do not mean Marx’s crisis. Marx said that he was not a Marxist. The purposes of this essay explore (1) the modern identity of the political economy; (2) the possibilities of mutual understanding between neoclassical economics and Marxist economics; (3) problems of the political economy in media and communication industry. I have begged for analytical Marxists, because of their good fruits. They accepted the methods of modern social science and they constituted a tremendous advance in the application of the scientific methods to the study of society. In insisting on micro-foundations(methodological individualism), analytical Marxism distinguished itself from structuralism and functionalism. I appreciate that analytical Marxism has reduced a theory to practice. But the works didn’t listen to everyone(from Marxists to un-Marxists), and explain everything. Making theory with production/consumption, macro/micro, and structure/behavior is a road to the political economy in the long run. It also applies to media and communication industry. The realm of media/communication is broad, which in philosophy, humanities, politics, economics, sociology, and engineering. And media policy is more complicated by politicians who look at the same situation from different angles. By the aid of interdisciplinary research, the political economy of media/communication shall explain at full length.

However, it is also suggested that the methods to fulfil desirable journalism in the digital age should be different from that of the mass communication age. The interviewees make propose that the journalist, as a network node, news curator or coordinator, should actively interact with the audiences facilitating their enhanced potential as a news 'prosumer'(producer and consumer).

  • Although the use of social media by doctors raises important issues concerning medical professionalism, the relevant professional bodies in South Korea have failed to issue clear guidelines on social media usage. The Korean Medical Association's newly revised ethics guidelines do require members to maintain dignity while using social media, but the idea of "maintaining dignity" is far from clear, and its premodern connotation prevents it from being reliably used in professional codes of conduct. The authors of this article examine the concept of maintaining dignity and conclude that once it is clarified and redefined it can and should be used as a viable ethical standard in a variety of contexts, including the use of social media. Social media's unpredictability and uncontrollability, and the blurred distinction between professional/public and personal/private can be a threat to medical professionalism. In order to deal with this threat, the concept of dignity is important. We present three examples in which the dignity of medical professionals is undermined and explain why these jeopardize public trust. We conclude that in order to maintain public trust the Korean Medical Association should provide more detailed guidelines on the use of social media by its members.

  • Drawn upon the analysis of Seoul community media, this study make six points. The generation of community is not essentially determined but has singularity and differences. Historical context, social conditionality, cultural orientation, and the subjects' will and anticipation bring out certain forms of community. Various power relations and desires are engaged in the formation of community. The process of the construction of community is necessarily and simultaneously mediated with collective acts of communication and sharing. Community is not so much cultivated within society as articulated with precariousness, negativity and limit. Community is able to create its own cultural sensibility and language to express it. Thereby community is a dynamics between articulation and disarticulation, convergency and divergency, similitude and difference living in our actual society.
