Life cycle assessment was carried out to evaluate the environmental values of dimethylas a diesel alternative fuel with the assumption of dimethyl ether production from natural gas via synthesis gas. The whole life cycles from raw material acquisitions to the final usages of diesel and dimethyl ether were involved in the assessment. Inventory analysis showed that the most significant environmental impacts came from resource depletions and air emissions. Impact assessment revealed that dimethyl ether was environmentally better in the aspect of human health and ecosystem quality but worse in resource depletions compared with diesel fuel. Suggestions for environmental improvement of dimethyl ether as a diesel alternative fuel were prepared based on the assessment results.
This is a comparative study that shows the overall environmental impacts from concrete structures when different compressive strength of concrete applied to structural systems having the same reference flow with different durability. A total of 24 MPa, 40 MPa and 60 MPa cases is analyzed to define the characteristic using end-point perspective LCA methodology including the stages of production, construction, maintenance and disposal. As results, global warming, non-renewable energy and respiratory inorganics problems are the major issues for assessing environmental impacts of concrete products.

In order to evaluate the environmental load occurring from the whole life cycle of a facility, LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) adopted by ISO is not only applied as an individual product but rather a complicated system involving buildings and/or infrastructure in a wide range of scope. The introducing of LCA to a wastewater reuse facility will assist to understand not only the treatment of water contaminants but also the overall system related to the interaction of involved, potential issues. This research implemented LCA for the establishment of the wastewater reuse facility. The results show that a fresh water aquatic Eco-toxicological Impact (88.3%) is the largest environment concern and the maintenance & operation phase has the most impact on the environment utilizing life cycle for the wastewater reuse facility. The civil works and chemical treatments in the maintenance & operation phase led to the biggest environmental impact. The results of this research can provide pertinent data of investigating opportunities for environmental improvement not limited to public officers regulating environmental policies, and could be used to make decisions for an environmentally sound and sustainable design in the initial phase of construction.

This study aims to provide useful information when making a decision for the environmental assessment of infrastructure, based on Life Cycle Assessment(LCA). It estimates environmental load on environmental pollutants that are possible to occur by locations and by types of emergency spillway for Korean multipurpose dam, which is selected as a study case. For this purpose, this study examines the theories of LCA and calculates environmental load on environmental pollutants that generate during life cycle, to apply the suggested infrastructure to the case study of emergency spillway at the multipurpose dam. It also evaluates environmental load of emergency spillway by the estimated result, and draws the optimum alternative that is environmental friendly.

Iindium-tin-oxide (ITO) material was had to use in display application as transparent electrode. However it would be problems comes up, the depletion of indium, tin and energy consumption of production process. Therefore recently trend was demanded alternative ITO material and recycling/reused ITO. In this conditions, the environmental impact have to express correct value about recycling/reused ITO process. The life cycle assessment was valuable method in this process. Thus first step was carried out separating in/out put (material) sources and then, exactive data base (DB) was applied. The result of environment impact was calculated by affect categories and recycling rate was set to 34% (This value was measured in previous project). The rate (g) of ITO material was calculated by chemical equivalent. In result, environmental impact were revealed acidification potential and abiotic depletion and if do not recycle/reuse ITO, $ 476 per 1 ton waste in land.
In this study, performance and environmental characteristics of cyclone vacuum cleaners are analyzed and product improvement methods are investigated to minimize environmental effect of the cleaners using the result. A simplified LCA method is used to analyze environmental characteristics of the cyclone vacuum cleaners. Two cyclone vacuum cleaners with similar specifications are chosen for the experiment. Typical characteristics of cyclone vacuum cleaners such as energy consumption, suction force, noise and temperature are measured and compared. Most environmental effect was caused by the energy consumption in use phase of life cycle. Some ideas are created to reduce energy consumption of the vacuum cleaners in use phase like installing baffle, and methods to extend exchange period of filter. It is analyzed how recyclability rate of vacuum cleaners could be improved to reduce the environmental effect in whole life of the vacuum cleaners.

Generally, an EMU (Electronic Multiple Unit) is manufactured by assembling a large number of components and parts with extensive raw materials. Throughout its entire life cycle, much both the complicated system and long operating period. Therefore, it is necessary to the environmental performance of EMUs from raw materials to waste. In this study, RACE (Rail Assessment for Clean Environment) was developed as the software that can analyze the environmental RACE had several LCI (Life Cycle Inventory) database for main components as well as principal materials in EMUs. In the future, RACE can also be used as a tool for environmental communication between manufacturers and operators. Also, we will improve RACE continuously to assess more easily the environment of rolling stocks EMU for user.
