  • In this paper, we describe a method of defining an object's real length in order to compare objects' lengths precisely using all real length units in the real world. The browser in our study represents an object's length by referencing to the physical length property defined at modeling when it displays the object. Since objects' lengths are appropriately scaled according to these units, objects can be precisely and visually compared in sire using real world length units. The concept of defining the real length unit is extended to the X3D specification. The units are ranged from $10^{-24}(yotta)\;to\;10^{24}(yocto)$. In addition, we explain the method for processing LOD (Levels Of Detail) and for applying the property of LOLD (Levels of Length Detail) when objects with different LOLD are read into the browser.

  • Computer graphics technology has advanced such that all objects can be represented within a computer display. However, because computer displays have a finite resolution, the variety of objects that can be realistically represented together in the same view is restricted by the difference in their relative size. In addition, objects cannot be rendered according to their physical properties in terms of real length units in current computer graphics technology. To solve these problems, we have defined a method that allows objects to be described using real-world physical property units, such as metric units, in a computer graphics system, and developed a 3D browser based on X3D, which implements the concept of relative proportion properties.

  • The technology of virtual environments has been developed with better-quality appearance on a computer display in mind, but without consideration for objects' precise measurements in physical units. With the increased application of computer graphics in a variety of areas, there is a need for precise measurement functionality in addition to visualization. This paper describes the definition of physical properties using measurement units for X3D based virtual objects, to provide their precise physical information in virtual environments. To this end, we have included the physical property node in the X3D specification. The physical measurement units, such as length, mass, time, temperature, etc., are based on SI units (International System of Units).

  • Current computer graphics technology creates and displays virtual objects in a normalized environment. We cannot know or assume the real physical properties of objects related to appearance without textual information. It is also difficult to represent any two objects in relation to each other when the difference between the two objects' size is large because of the limited resolution of the computer display. In order to solve the problem, we define and implement the real length property among the physical properties in virtual environments. We define the concept of LOLD (Level of Length Detail) to represent real-world length for objects in metric units such as millimeter, meter, kilometer, etc.

  • The Picturesque Style of the $18{\sim}19th$ Century Romantic landscape gardening had features of both irregularity and variety. These features were applied to $19{\sim}20th$ Century urbanism, which was called 'Urban Picturesque'. Preceding research has found that pedestrians take more interest in streets modeled after 'Urban Picturesque' principles mainly focused on physical appearance. further development of this research was undertaken through an experiment focused on pedestrian activity as well as physical factors through a case study of the Duksugung-gil, Insadong-gil and Myoungdong-gil. The results of the research are as follows. Although the physical conditions of the street in Duksugung are fitted more on Urban Picturesque principles than the other two case studies, the degree of pedestrian interest was highest for the street in Insadong due to excellence both in physical appearance and the diversity of cultural activities available in it. In conclusion, it can be said that to achieve the fdl effect of a Picturesque urban scene, a diversity of place-appropriate activities related to socio-cultural programs should be combined with an excellent physical appearance.

  • Animation works have been peformed by the objective sensitivity and experience so far. Software designs have been also manufactured based on intelligent data because they are easy to objectify and digitalize. In contrast, there are many elements, which human senses are hard to objectify and digitalize. This study investigates how to digitalize and objectify human senses and how to use them as the quantitative data and its subject is a flying path. In the experiment, this study collects some sensitive words for how human beings express the living path. The evaluation words for sensitivity through the collected sensitive words are extracted and the sketch images for the flying path are collected from the extracted evaluation words for sensitivity. Based on the collected sketch images, the samples of real moving image, which are the core of this study, are manufactured. Then, quantification theory III and I are used in order to analyze the correlation between the sensitive words representing the flying path and the samples of moving image. As a result, this study can figure out the structure of sensitive words and the samples of moving image and analyze the physical stimulating elements for the flying path. The flying path corresponds to the path that the object has passed. Some unique sensitive words are expressed by means of interacting some sensitive stimulating elements after looking at such a path. There are some elements that stimulate the senses and they include the physical elements such as speed, rotation, pattern and length of arc. The purpose of this study is to objectify and quantify the animation works that are created by animators' subjective thought and experience and to use them in animation works in the future.

  • We report an implementation of the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey at a site that corresponds to a ruined castle. The objective of the survey was to characterise buried archaeological structures such as walls and tiles in Van Khan Tooril's Ruin, Mongolia, by 2D and 3D GPR techniques. GPR datasets were acquired in an area 10mby 9 m, with 10 cm line spacing. Two datasets were collected, using GPR with 500MHz and 800MHz frequency antennas. In this paper, we report the use of instantaneous parameters to detect archaeological targets such as tile, brick, and masonry by polarimetric GPR. Radar polarimetry is an advanced technology for extraction of target scattering characteristics. It gives us much more information about the size, shape, orientation, and surface condition of radar targets. We focused our interpretation on the strongest reflections. The image is enhanced by the use of instantaneous parameters. Judging by the shape and the width of the reflections, it is clear that moderate to high intensity response in instantaneous amplitude corresponds to brick and tiles. The instantaneous phase map gave information about the location of the targets, which appeared as discontinuities in the signal. In order to increase our ability to interpret these archaeological targets, we compared the GPR datasets acquired in two orthogonal survey directions. A good correlation is observed for the alignments of reflections when we compare the two datasets. However, more reflections appear in the north-south survey direction than in the west-east direction. This is due to the electric field orientation, which is in the horizontal plane for north-south survey directions and the horizontally polarised component of the backscattered high energy is recorded.
