This study aimed to investigate key research areas in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) by analyzing trends and identifying emerging topics. To facilitate the research, a collection of 40,897 author keywords from 11,252 papers published in the past 30 years (1993-2022) in five journals was gathered. In addition, keyword analysis, as well as Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and correlation analysis were conducted, utilizing variables such as the number of articles, number of authors, ratio of co-authored papers, and cited counts. The findings of the study suggest that two topics are likely to develop as promising research areas in LIS in the future: machine learning/algorithm and research impact. Furthermore, it is anticipated that future research will focus on topics such as social media and big data, natural language processing, research trends, and research assessment, as they are expected to emerge as prominent areas of study.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the research trends of library and information science in Korea by means of the subject analysis of the Korean journal articles published during the last sixty years and by means of the ciation analysis of the literatures cited in the journal articles. The results of this study are as follows. First, the subjects of the journal articles are difference from the articles by publication period. The core subjects of the research have been changed over the years. Second, the subjects of library and information science literatures in foreign languages cited in the journal articles are difference from the literatures by citation period and by literature age. Third, the subjects of other disciplinary literatures in foreign langauges cited in the journal articles is difference from the literatures by citation period and by literature age. Fourth, although the half-life of library and information science literatures cited in the journal articles is difference from the literatures by subject, the half-life of the literatures of this discipline is 10-year.

This study aims to identify the academic landscape of the field of Library and Information Science by analyzing the research areas of the four major domestic journals using structural topic modeling and network analysis. The results show that each journal focuses on different research areas. The Journal of the Korean Society for Library and Information Science covers the most comprehensive range of research areas in the field, while the Journal of the Korean Biblia Society for Library and Information Science shows a similar research trend but with a higher preference for research areas related to library management and library programs. The Journal of Korean Library and Information Science Society deals more with topics related to school libraries and reading education and the Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management focuses more on information technology and information science. This study is able to provide valuable foundational data for researchers in submitting their papers and for the topical specialization and diversification of the journals in the field of Library and Information Science.

본 연구의 목적은 국내 독서치료 주제 연구 문헌을 배출한 학문분야와 주요 연구 내용, 여기에 영향을 미친 문헌의 주제 분야를 도출하고 독서치료 주제 연구 문헌을 바라보는 타 문헌들의 시각을 통해 독서치료 주제 연구 문헌의 성격을 다각적으로 파악하는 것이다. 이를 위해 한국 학술지 인용색인 데이터베이스의 데이터를 활용하여 자아 중심 주제 인용 분석을 실행한 결과 독서치료 연구는 문헌 정보학계의 관련 연구를 토대로 하여 임상적 독서치료를 중심으로 이루어지고 있으며, 문헌정보학 외에 교육학 분야의 연구가 활발하고 유아 정서지능과 영화치료를 주제로 하는 문헌들에 응용되고 있음이 나타났다.

본 논문은 문헌정보학의 연구동향을 규명하기 위하여 1957년부터 1997년 12월까지 국내에서 출판된 단행본 1,855종을 내용분석(Content Analysis)을 이용하여 저자별 생산성, 주제별 생산성, 대학별 생산성, 연구방법별 생산성에 대한 분석을 살펴봄과 동시에 그 결과를 통한 핵심전공주제, 핵심저자, 전공분야별 핵심저자, 언어분석 등을 각각 수량적으로 분석 조사하였다. 이 같은 연구는 문헌정보학의 핵심주제와 관심영역, 주제의 편중과 분포, 학문의 전반적인 흐름을 파악할 수가 있었다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate a trend of research in the field of information science in Korea. For this purpose, the study analyzed the subject of each citing and cited articles appeared in the 'Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management' 302 original articles appeared in the journal from 1984 to 2004 were analyzed. 3,270 foreign literatures of library and information science field being cited in the original articles and those 2,492 cited foreign literatures of other field then library and information science were analyzed by subject, by publication year, and by citing age.

This study analyzed authors' use of theory in 654 articles that appeared in two core library and information science journals during last three decades. In order to analyze degree of theory use of LIS, such as, publication productivity, growth and distribution of theory in subfields. name and origin of theory, usability of each theory, subfields and journals, and so on, content analysis of LIS theories was performed through conceptual and empirical study. For the purpose of this study, we suggested a couple of new analytical methods, so called, ‘Subfield Classification Scheme’ within LIS, and ‘5 Degrees of Theory Use’ model for the first time.

This study applied dynamic topic modeling on titles and abstracts of 55,442 academic papers in 85 SSCI journals from 2001 to 2020 in order to analyze research topic trend in library and information science. The analysis revealed four major themes of library management, informatics, library service, and library system in 10 major topics. The results also showed subtopics in information science and library management topic areas to change over time, while library service remained stable over 20 years to establish itself as a robust topic. In addition, medical information emerged as a significant sub-topic of informatics, thus exemplifying the interdisciplinary characteristics of library and information science field.

The purpose of this study was to provide an overview of the historical process of library and information science domain since 1970 in Korea. This study analyzed major subjects of 5,915 articles which were published through six academic journals in LIS area from 1970 untill 2015 by year and over 10-year periods. The results showed the development process of LIS domain itself and 4 sub-domains through subject analysis of 6 academic journals.

This Study analyzed the use of statistics in 1,768 research articles published in 2001-2004 in 4 korean & 6 English core journals in the field of library and information science. Korean journals made significantly less use of descriptive and inferential statistics. Of the 663 inferential statistics used in 345 of the 1768 articles, the most frequently used inferential technique was multivariate analysis. There was significant difference in inferential methods used in Korean & English journals, also in traditional library science journals and information science journals.
