본 연구는 미국 ALA (American Library Association)가 인정한 문헌정보학 석사과정 (Master of Library Services) 교육과정에서 연구방법론의 현황과 특성을 분석하고, 문헌정보학 프로그램이 개설된 기관 내 다른 대학원 프로그램에서의 연구방법론의 위상을 문헌정보학과와 비교하였다. 연구결과 문헌정보학의 경우, 연구방법론에서 다루어지는 내용들이 매우 다양하고 일관성이 없었으며, 다수의 문헌정보학 프로그램들 내에서 연구방법론이 필수과목이 아니었으며, 상위20위에 드는 학교 중 절반만이 연구방법론을 필수과목으로 요구하였다. 그러나, 문헌정보학 프로그램이 개설된 기관 내의 자연과학 프로그램, 대부분의 사회과학 프로그램, 경영학 석사과정 (MBA), 사회복지학 석사과정들이 연구방법론을 핵심과목으로 요구하였으며, 이들 분야들은 자신의 분야의 특수성을 반영하는 연구방법론 과목을 개설하였다. 또한 이들 분야의 프로그램들을 승인하는 국가적인 기관들이 연구방법론의 필수과목 개설을 명시하였다. 털 연구는 문헌정보학의 학문적 경쟁력을 강화하고, 연구의 질을 향상시키기 위해서는, 문헌정보학 학문의 특수성을 반영할 수 있는 연구방법론의 개발과 연구방법론의 핵심과목 지정이 중요함을 제시한다.

As the Library and Information Science(LIS) has developed as an academic discipline, the importance of its research has also been emphasized. In that context, this study examines the theoretical underpinning of research in LIS, provides background of this study, analyzes research articles published in the Journal of the Korean Library and Information Science Society and the Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management between 1993 and 1997 and, based upon the analysis, explores some perspectives on research in LIS.

The purpose of this study is to examin the women' s issues in Library & Information Science and to develop a FLIS (Feminist Library & Information Science). This study sample consists of 83 articles published during 1970-1996 in 21 major LIS journals of Korea, America, and England. This study presents a women' s representation mode in LIS that allows categorization of women' s issues into three distinct but related categories: 1) women as information producer, 2) women as information user, and 3) women as information manager. This study suggests that FLI be based on Feminism and take gender as a analytic category of LIS research.

이 연구는 우리나라 문헌정보학 연구자들의 연구 논문 및 그곳에 인용된 문헌의 주제 및 간행 시기별 분포를 조사, 분석함으로써 우리나라의 문헌정보학 연구 동향을 밝힌 것이며, 그 조사 대상 문헌은 1970년부터 1990년까지 발표된 우리나라 문헌정보학 연구자들의 연구 논문 298편 및 여기에 인용된 외국의 문헌정보학 문헌 5,701편이다.

This study examines research themes, the relationship with other disciplines of Library and Information Science in other to analyze general research trends in the field of Library and Information Science. This study aims to identify the academic landscape of the field of Library and Information Science by analyzing the research areas of the four major domestic journals using structural topic modeling and network analysis. The results show that each journal focuses on different research areas. The Journal of the Korean Society for Library and Information Science covers the most comprehensive range of research areas in the field, while the Journal of the Korean Biblia Society for Library and Information Science shows a similar research trend but with a higher preference for research areas related to library management and library programs. The Journal of Korean Library and Information Science Society deals more with topics related to school libraries and reading education and the Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management focuses more on information technology and information science. This study is able to provide valuable foundational data for researchers in submitting their papers and for the topical specialization and diversification of the journals in the field of Library and Information Science.

This study aims to investigate the scholarly communications and citation influences in library and information science field by conducting journal citation network analysis. For data collection, four major journals in library and information science field were chosen and 4,471 of research papers and 18,424 of citation records were collected from Korean Citation Index. The results show that Journal of the Korean Society for Library and Information Science was the most influential journal with highest citation in LIS fields, while Journal of the Korean Society for Library and Information Science Management influenced other research fields.

The study analyzes mission statements of Library and Information Science schools in the United States. It aims to reveal identities of LIS by Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The study examines the strategies or stereotypes of academic mission statements in LIS as a genre. Mission statements are analyzed using discourse analysis to find common ideology using agency, modality, and lexical analysis. A comparative analysis of two mission statements is also conducted within discursive practices to reveal characteristics of two schools. This study has value in that it provides implications for other ideological discussions applicable to LIS.

This study aimed to investigate key research areas in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) by analyzing trends and identifying emerging topics. To facilitate the research, a collection of 40,897 author keywords from 11,252 papers published in the past 30 years (1993-2022) in five journals was gathered. In addition, keyword analysis, as well as Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and correlation analysis were conducted, utilizing variables such as the number of articles, number of authors, ratio of co-authored papers, and cited counts. The findings of the study suggest that two topics are likely to develop as promising research areas in LIS in the future: machine learning/algorithm and research impact. Furthermore, it is anticipated that future research will focus on topics such as social media and big data, natural language processing, research trends, and research assessment, as they are expected to emerge as prominent areas of study.
