The purpose of this study is to investigate the research trends of library and information science in Korea by means of the subject analysis of the Korean journal articles published during the last sixty years and by means of the ciation analysis of the literatures cited in the journal articles. The results of this study are as follows. First, the subjects of the journal articles are difference from the articles by publication period. The core subjects of the research have been changed over the years. Second, the subjects of library and information science literatures in foreign languages cited in the journal articles are difference from the literatures by citation period and by literature age. Third, the subjects of other disciplinary literatures in foreign langauges cited in the journal articles is difference from the literatures by citation period and by literature age. Fourth, although the half-life of library and information science literatures cited in the journal articles is difference from the literatures by subject, the half-life of the literatures of this discipline is 10-year.

The primary objectives of this paper has been to survey the present status quo and problems of the library and information science and to pursuit the perspectives of library and information science. For these, this paper has discussed (1) historical development of the library and information science, (2) the library and information science researcher's approach methods to the library and information science theory, (3) the present status quo and problems that are confronting in the area of the library and information science and (4) the perspectives of the library and information science and especially the library and information science education programs.

교육개혁 등 교육환경의 변화에 따라 문헌정보학의 학문적 특성과 위상의 재정립이 중요해 지고 있다. 이에 본 논문은 문헌정보학의 발전과정을 살펴보고, 대학의 학제상의 문헌정보학의 학문적 위치를 조사 분석하고, 각 대학 문헌정보학의 교과를 중심으로 학문적 특성을 파악한 뒤, 교수진의 학문적 배경을 살펴보고 이들을 바탕으로 문헌정보학의 학문적 특성을 이해하고 나아갈 바를 도색하고 있다.

This study aims to reveal the problems of the education of library management area in library and information science and to seek possible methods for solving the problems. It was revealed that the number of subjects of library management area was often changed by the influence of information science. It was also disclosed that the education of library management does not satisfy what the librarians' demand. The study provides the following suggestions for the better education of library management: first, the establishment of the standardization of library and information science curriculum which includes the provision of the number, title and contents of the subjects of library management and secondly, close cooperation with librarians when opening new subjects of library management area.

The purpose of this study is to give a challenge LIS field and serve a starting point for the discussion on iSchool. To achieve the study purpose, this study conducted in-depth interview with LIS scholars. Qualitative method was utilized to analyze the interview data. According to the study results, current curriculum reorganization is required for the success of Korean iSchool. In addition, the followings are the expected effects of iSchool: 1)increased possibility of interdisciplinary research and education, 2)expansion of LIS identity, and 3)creation of a new image of LIS. However, there was anxiety about losing LIS's unique identity as an librarian education institute.

This study is to examine into the research pattern of the each country then, Korea and Japan's library and information science researchers through the ISA database, to analyze the thesis in various aspects which is included in ISA database. It analyzed such as leading authors production. subjects, journals etc. In addition, the study is to analyze the form of citation of Korea and Japan's library and information science researchers by studying the citation written in the thesis of the internationalization of library and information science and indicate the direction of our study in the future.

The purpose of this article is to figure out the structural problems which have threaten both scholarship and profession of Library and Information Science in South Korea. In details, this study discusses such major weakness in Korean LIS as vague academic identity, poor research activities, and unreasonable educational systems. The emphasis for discussion is on identifying the unique and indigenous variables which have had deep influences on both development process and current crisis of Korean LIS. Finally suggested are the strategies and methods for promoting the good health of Korean Library and Information Science as an independent academic discipline as well as a prospective profession.

The purpose of this study is to identify several factors necessary to the curriculum development of the archives and records management in Korea by analyzing archival programs of to Schools of Library and Information Science(SLIS) in the U.S.A. Name of the schools, programs and their degrees, credits, required and elective courses, practice, research, facilities, and SAA guidelines of graduate archival programs are compared by analyzing websites and the literature review. There are a few LIS schools that concentrate archival education and most of the archival programs don't cover all of the core archival knowledge suggested in the LIS schools. In conclusion, the core curriculum of archival science should include history and preservation of archives, archives and records management, information technology, management principles, practicum, and research/ thesis. And a lot of cooperated research and conversation between educational institutions and practical fields are required.

본 연구의 목적은 국내 문헌정보학 프로그램의 현황과 문제점을 고찰한 후, 이와 개선을 통하여 효율적인 교육과정의 개선방안을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 질적인 서술방식과 계량적연구를 병행하여 수행하였다. 질적인 연구에서는 기존의 연구결과와 현황에 근거한 문헌정보학의 최근 동향에 대하여 서술하고, 기록보존 관련과목과 사서교사교육과정과 관련된 내용에 대하여 고찰하였다. 계량적 연구의 수행을 위하여는 먼저 문헌정보학을 3개분야 (도서관학, 정보학, 서지학과 기타분야), 15개 세부영역으로 나누어 분류하였다. 이 분류방식에 근거하여 준비된 설문지를 사용하여 대구경북지역 내 도서관 현장근무자 및 재학생들의 요구를 파악하기 위하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 206개의 이용가능한 데이터를 수집하여 여러 종류의 기술적, 추리적 통계분석방법과 SPSS를 사용하여 분석한 계량적 연구의 주요발견사항을 함께 기술하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 급속히 변화되는 사회 및 교육환경에 맞는 문헌정보학 교육과정의 개편에 일조할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

This study focuses on the identity establishment of library and information science. It suggests, as a way of establishing the identity, the necessity of promoting of business environment in library and information science. For this purpose, the study examines Korean cases that have damaged the identity, and analyzes why such damage has been done and how it affects the fostering of business environment in library and information. It also diagnoses the possibility of identity establishment such as, for example, professionalism of the librarian and creation of jobs through the fostering of business environment in library and information science.
