In dependency parsing of long sentences with fewer subjects than predicates, it is difficult to recognize which predicate governs which subject. To handle such syntactic ambiguity between subjects and predicates, this paper proposes an 'S-clause' segmentation method, where an S(ubject)-clause is defined as a group of words containing several predicates and their common subject. We propose an automatic S -clause segmentation method using decision trees. The S-clause information was shown to be very effective in analyzing long sentences, with an improved parsing performance of 5 percent. In addition, the performance in detecting the governor of subjects was improved by $32\%$.
Our study aimed to analyze and reinterpret, by an acoustic approach, the descriptions of the 18th century prosody and introduce the figurative pronunciation system, which is the International Phonetic Alphabet pioneer. Our methodology compares and analyzes grammars and documents on the transcription system and restructures the prosodic structure. It is certain that the 18th century grammarians widely accepted the prosody theories made by Arnauld & Lancelot of the seventeenth century. In particular, grammar scholars accepted the dichotomous classification of the accent structures as prosodic and oratorical accents. The prosodic accent has a relation to intonation, and the oratorical accent has as its key elements intonation and intensity. Regarding the temporal structure, the lengthening of the final syllable was observed systematically by grammarians of the 18th century. This time structure is similar to that of today. Therefore, we can conclude that the final elongation, an essential characteristic of the modern French accent, has already played an imbued role in 18th century prosody. Despite this, the 18th century grammarians did not assign it the status of accent, as it was a stereotype that matches accent with intonation.

This paper proposes a method to recognize vowels and consonants in a handwritten Hangul text, in which the sizes of chracters and the spaces between characters are not uniform. In this method, all characters in the thinned image of a handwritten Hangul text are transformed into strokes, and the attributes which represent the relations between strokes are extracted from these strokes, and the attributes which represent the relations between strokes are extracted from these strokes. The vowels and consonants are recognized by applying attributed grammars to the strokes and attributes.

한국어는 구문요소의 문법기능이 표면구조상에 명시되는 구문특성을 갖고 있다. 이러한 특성은 한국어의 문법체계가 feature중심으로 전개되고 있음을 의미한다. 한국어에서의 feature 특성과 이진 결합 관계를 중심으로 하는 chart parsing 알고리즘을 제시하고 한국어 chart parser을 구현하였다.

Negative polarity items(NPIs), which function as quantifiers are licensed in a syntactically strict way by negatives, which function as qualifiers, resulting in universal negating interpretations as pairs. We present a proposal to explain the related phenomena, in which the syntax and the semantics are closely related to each other, with Combinatory Categorial Grammar. For this purpose, we first adopt the usual approach to scrambling, but control its overgeneration with the use of markers, taking into account the complex syntactic phenomena involving NPIs and scrambling in Korean. We also propose to utilize polarity intensity as a novel feature, in order to account for the universal negating interpretations when NPIs are combined with negatives. Our proposal also explains the difference in readings when other quantifiers or qualifiers intervene the NPI and the related negatives.
