An Effcient Lossless Compression Algorithm using Arithmetic Coding for Indexed Color lmage (산술부호화를 이용한 인덱스 칼라 이미지에서의 효율적인 무손실 압축 방법)

  • This paper introduces a new algorithm to improve compression performance of 256 color images called palette-based or indexed images. The proposed scheme counts each frequency of index values after present index value and determines each rank for every index value by sorting them in descending order. Then, the scheme makes ranked index image instead of original indexed image using the way to replace index values with ranks. In the ranked index image's distribution produced as a result of this algorithm, the higher ranked index value, the more present same values. Therefore, data redundancy will be raised and more efficient performance of compression can be expected. Simulation results verify that because of higher compression ratio by up to 22.5, this newly designed algorithm shows a much better performance of compression in comparison with the arithmetic coding, intensity-based JPEG-LS and palette-based GIF.

  • 본 논문에서는 실시간적인 요소와 높은 경험의 질을 요구하는 다자간 협업 환경에서 고해상도 비디오를 제공하기 위하여, 무손실과 저지연, 저비용의 특징을 갖는 비압축 HD 비디오를 처리할 수 있는 '비압축 HD 비디오 전송 응용' (Scalable Video Tool)을 구현하여 초고해상도 디스플레이를 위한 비압축 HD 가시화 서비스'를 구성한다. Scalable Video Tool (SVT)은 Microsoft 사의 Direct Show를 기반으로, 비압축 HD 카메라와 DV 카메라, WebCam의 영상도 실시간으로 처리가 가능하다. 초고해상도 디스플레이에 고해상도 비디오와 이미지 가시화를 지원하는 SAGE(Scalable adaptive graphics environment)[2]와 SVT를 연동하여 다자간 협업 환경에서 다양한 형태의 고해상도 비디오와 그래픽스 자료를 공유할 수 있는 시스템을 구성한다. 본 논문의 마지막에서는 $5{\times}11$의 격자 형태로 구성된 타일드 디스플레이 (Tiled Display)를 이용하여 제안된 시스템을 검증한다.

Research on Image Compression Quality and Limited Inclusion of DCT Coefficient (선택적인 DCT 상수의 사용과 이미지압축 품질에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the DCT based lossless image compression system which selects a limited number of DCT coefficients is proposed for the Lenna, Camerman, and Baboon image. The number of DCT coefficients to obtain a suitable image quality for the reconstructed image is computed by simulation. The image size of $256{\times}256$ are used in the experiment. The PSNR values for the reconstructed image by selecting limited number of DCT coefficients are found. It is shown that the minimun number of the coefficients for Lenna, Cameramen Baby and Babbo image to obtain PSNR=30 are N=16, 32, 37, 55, respectively. The result can provide the guideline of the importance of the DCT coefficient toward the compression for the tested image of the Lena, Cameraman, and Baboon.

  • This paper presents the design of a JPEG-LS codec for lossless image compression from AR/VR device. The proposed JPEG-LS(: LosSless) codec is mainly composed of a context modeling block, a context update block, a pixel prediction block, a prediction error coding block, a data packetizer block, and a memory block. All operations are organized in a fully pipelined architecture for real time image processing and the LOCO-I compression algorithm using improved 2D approach to compliant with the SBT coding. Compared with a similar study in JPEG-LS, the Block-RAM size of proposed STB-FLC architecture is reduced to 1/3 compact and the parallel design of the predication block could improved the processing speed.

  • In this paper, we propose a lossless compression algorithm using adaptive DPCM(Differential Pulse Coded Modulation) for enhancing the compression ratio. To improve the compression efficiency, various DPCM modification algorithms have been proposed. Proposed algorithm presents 16 DPCM methods and adaptively selects the DPCM method for each block. The experimental results show that proposed DPCM algorithm has better performance on compression ratio than JPEG standard.

  • Using enhanced ordering scheme of graylevel in an image, we can apply it to lossless image compression in this paper. The proposed method is ordering scheme to replace an original grayscale image with a particular ordered image without additional information. From the simulation, it is verified that the proposed method reduces the bit rates than plain ordering scheme. And it can be applied in various fields of lossless compression, water marking and edge detection.

  • PACS(Picture archiving communication system) is a system that enables medical images such as X -ray, CT, MRI, PET to be stored electronically viewed on computer screens so that doctors and other authorized people can access search the information as needed. But if they are not in hospital area for example on holiday or at night, that are not able to access the PACS system instantly. We have to solve this problem for more efficient patient care. So we try to suggest a method that use the PDA system that wireless LAN and CDMA cellular phone are equipped. This system may help to access easier to PACS system regardless of the location and can also attribute the development of telemedicne.
