  • Recenty, there has been great interest in MANET from various areas. In this paper we focus on performance analysis of on demand routing protocols surf as DSR, AODV, and TORA in MANET. We have conducted several simulations concerned with application service data such as sensor, text. voice, and video data. And then, we have evaluated the performance of three protocols in a pre-designed ad hoc network, which is consisted of 20 nodes. As a result, we have obtained quantitative data for packet delivery fraction, average end to-end delay, routing load, channel utilization from upper layer and supportable routing protocol for application service data. The results can be used for designing specific-purposed ad-hoc networks.

  • In this paper, we introduce a testbed for testing the RF energy transfer technology in the Internet of Things (IoT) environment, and provide experimental results obtained by using the testbed. The IoT environment considered in this paper consists of a power beacon, which is able to wirelessly transfers energy via microwave, and multiple sensor nodes, which makes use of the energy received from the power beacon. We have implemented the testbed to experiment the RF energy transfer in such IoT environment. We have used off-the-shelf hardware components to build the testbed and have made the tesbed controlled by software so that various energy and data transmission protocol experiments can easily be conducted. We also provide experimental results and discuss the future research direction.

  • The casualties due to slope failures such as landslide, rock fall, debris flow etc. are about 24% in total casualties caused by natural disasters for the last 10 years. And these slope failures are focused in the season in which typhoon and torrential rain take place. Not much attention, however, have been put into landslide mitigation research. Meanwhile, USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) forms the self-organization network, and transfers the information among sensor nodes that have computing technology ability. Accordingly, USN is embossed a social point technology. The objective of this paper is to develop a prototype system for slope failure monitoring using USN technology. For this we develop module that collects and change slope movement data measured by two tiltermeter and a tension wire, store transferred data in database. Also we develop application program that can easily analyze the data. We apply the prototype system to a test site at KICT for testing and analyzing the system's performance.

  • As web based software has developed recently, service via web has increased gradually. For this, many research organizations and reports call web is the platform of software. While web based technologies have developed, middleware of WSN and its application service has been developed from desktop based operation system. So WSN's technology reached uppermost limit of desktop application. There's difficulty in integrating, distributing and maintaining & repairing for WSN due to a tightly-coupled structure which's related closely to the hardware of sensor nod. Unlike this, web has a loosely-coupled structure and an opened system, so web service or Rich internet application (RIA) is helpful to solve the above limits. Especially, RIA is web application but can be the platform of WSN' application because it gives us various methods to communicate with user interface similar to desktop application. In this study, I suggest Message System for WSN Using RIA, expanding WSN's interconnectedness and accessibility to internet.

  • In conventional cooperative communication data rate is 1/2 than non cooperative protocols. In this paper, we propose a full data rate DF (Decode and Forward) cooperative transmission scheme. Proposed scheme is based on time division multiplexing (TDM) channel access. When DF protocol has full data rate, it can not obtain diversity gain under the pairwise error probability (PEP) view point. If it increases time slot to obtain diversity gain, then data rate is reduced. The proposed algorithm uses orthogonal frequency and constellation rotation to obtain both full data rate and diversity order 2. Moreover, performance is analyzed according to distance and optimized components that affect the system performance by using computer simulation. The simulation results revealed that the cooperation can save the network power up to 7dB over direct transmission and 5dB over multi-hop transmission at BER of $10^{-2}$. Besides, it can improve date rate of system compared with the conventional DF protocol.

  • To offer indoor location-aware services, the needs for efficient and accurate indoor localization system has been increased. In order to meet these requirement, we presented the BLIDx(Bidirectional Location ID exchange) protocol that is efficient localization system based on sensor network. The BLIDx protocol can cope with numerous mobile nodes simultaneously but the precision of the localization is too coarse because that uses cell based localization method. In this paper, in order to compensate for these disadvantage, we propose the fingerprint overlapping method by modifying a fingerprinting methods in WLAN, and localization system using proposed method was designed and implemented. Our experiments show that the proposed method is more accurate and robust to noise than fingerprinting method in WLAN. In this way, it was improved that low location precision of BLIDx protocol.

  • In this paper, we implemented an android mobile management application of intelligent prevention of disaster system which can manage the current status monitoring and whether operating or not by using Ubiquitous Sensor Network based self wireless communication system of scattered emergency light, fire extinguishers and sprinkler inside the high complex building. This system is composed with fire facilities attached sensor nodes, management server for collection of information and control, and smart phone application that transmits and receives information with management server. As a result of the test, the embodied android-based smart phone application to be performed anywhere could confirm status and monitoring information of fire facilities which are communicated with the management server.

  • In indoor environment, the combination of the two variations, large scale(path loss) and small scale(fading), leads to non-linear variation of RSSI(received signal strength indicator) values as distance varied. This has been one of the difficulties for indoor location estimation. This paper presents new findings on indoor RSSI characterization for more accurate model building. Experiments have been done statistically to find overall trend of RSSI values at different places and times within the same room. From experiments, it has been shown that the variation of RSSI values can be determined by both spatial and temporal factors. These two factors are directly indicated by the two main parameters of path loss model. The results show that all sensor nodes which are located at different places share the same characterization value for the temporal parameter whereas different values for the spatial parameters. The temporal parameter also has a large scale variation effect that is slowly time varying due to environmental changes. Using this relationship, the characterization for location estimation can be more efficient and accurate.

  • Mobility management is one of the most important research issues in 6LoWPAN, Since the IP-WSN application domain is expanded to real-time applications such as healthcare and surveillance systems, a fast and seamless handover becomes an important criterion in 6LoWPAN. However, a draft of IETF 6LoWPAN WG for mobility support does not decrease handover delay. Although LoWMob supports a fast intra-PAN handover. it can be supported when the infrastructure node has the location information of the other nodes in the mobile node's moving direction. In this paper, we propose a fast and seamless mobility protocol to support intra-PAN handover, named intra-MARIO. In intra-MARIO, a parent node of the mobile node preconfigures its handover to the PAN when the parent node detects its movement, thereby reducing the handover delay. Since intra-MARIO also supports route optimization, the mobile node can communicate with its corresponding nodes through the optimal route. In this paper, we analysis the signaling cost and evaluates that the handover can be completed in 20ms by simulation.

  • This work tackles the problem of conventional reinforcement learning scheme which has a relatively long training time to reduce energy consumption in underwater network. The enhanced scheme adjusts the learning range of reinforcement learning based on distance estimation. It can be reduce the scope of learning. To take account the fact that the distance estimation may not be accurate due to the underwater wireless network characteristics. this research added noise in consideration of the underwater environment. In simulation result, the proposed AQ-NAV scheme has completed learning much faster than existing method. AQ-NAV can finish the training process within less than 40 episodes. But the existing method requires more than 120 episodes. The result show that learning is possible with fewer attempts than the previous one. If AQ-NAV will be applied in Underwater Networks, It will affect energy efficiency. and It will be expected to relieved existing problem and increase network efficiency.
