An AP Selection Scheme for Enhancement of Multimedia Streaming in Wireless Network Environments (무선 네트워크 환경에서 멀티미디어 서비스를 위한 AP 선정 기법)

  • Recently, there has been a growing interest in the use of WLAN technology due to its easy deployment, flexibility and so on. Examples of WLAN applications range from standard internet services such as Web access to real-time services with strict latency/throughput requirements such as multimedia video and voice over IP on wireless network environments. Fair and efficient distribution of the traffic loads among APs(Access Points) has become an important issue for improved utilization of WLAN. This paper focuses on an AP selection scheme for achieving better load balance, and hence increasing network resource utilization for each user on wireless network environments. This scheme makes use of active scan patterns and the network delay as main parameters of load measurement and AP selection. This scheme attempts to estimate the AP traffic loads by observing the up/down delay and utilize the results to maximize the link resource efficiency through load balancing. We compared the proposed scheme with the original SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio)-based scheme using the NS-2(Network Simulation.2). We found that the proposed scheme improves the throughput by 12.5% and lower the network up/down link delay by 36.84% and 60.42%, respectively. All in all, the new scheme can significantly increase overall network throughput and reduce up/down delay while providing excellent quality for voice and video services.

Prediction Accuracy Enhancement Based on Adaptive Reporting Schemes of Mobile's Mobility Status Information (적응형 이동정보 보고 알고리즘에 기반한 무선 단말의 이동성 예측 정확도 향상 방안)

  • Predictive channel reservation techniques have widely been studied in mobile cellular networks in order to meet the desired quality-of-service requirements. Those efforts are mostly concentrated on predicting the target cell that a mobile will move to and reserving the channel before the actual handoff, and subsequently reducing handoff-dropping probability and improving bandwidth utilization. In this paper, we propose adaptive reporting schemes that a mobile reports its mobility status information such as position, speed, and direction in an appropriate moment based on the user's mobility pattern characteristics and, hence the network can make a more-accurate prediction on the user's mobility. We show from the simulations that the proposed scheme is capable of keeping target cell prediction more accurate and required number of reporting through the wireless up-link channel lower.

Load Distribution Method based on Transcoding Time Estimation on Distributed Transcoding Environments (분산 트랜스코딩 환경에서 트랜스코딩 시간 예측 기반 부하 분산 기법)

  • Due to improved wireless communication technologies, it is possible to provide multimedia streaming service for mobile device clients like PDAs and cellphones. Wireless networks are serviced on low bandwidth channels and mobile devices work on limited hardware specifications. In these conditions, transcoding technologies are needed to adapt the media for streaming services to given mobile environments. To transcode from the source media to the target media for corresponding grades, transcoding servers perform transcoding jobs as exhausting their resources. Since various transcoding loads occur according to the target transconding grades, an effective transcoding load balancing policy is required among transcoding servers. In addition to transcoding process, servers should maintain QoS streams for mobile clients for total serviced times. It requires real-time requirements to support QoS for various mobile clients. In this paper, a new transcoding load distribution method is proposed. The proposed method can be driven for fair load balance between distributed transcoding servers. Based on estimated transcoding time, movie information and target transcoding bit-rate, it provides fair transcoding load distribution and also performs admission control to support QoS streams for mobile clients.

  • This paper proposes a neural net based-predictive connection admission control (CAC) scheme for multiclass users in wireless cognitive radio networks. We classifies cognitive users(cu) into real and non real time services, and then permit only real time services to reserve the demanded resource for spectrum handoff in guard channel for provisioning the desired QoS. Neural net is employed to predict primary user's arrival on time and demanded channels. Resource scheduling scheme is based on $C_IA$(cognitive user I complete access) shown in this paper. For keeping primary users from interference, the CAC is performed on only cognitive user not primary user. Simulation results show that our schemes can guarantee the desired QoS by cognitive real time services.

Multicast Coverage Prediction in OFDM-Based SFN (OFDM 기반의 SFN 환경에서의 멀티캐스트 커버리지 예측)

  • In 3rd generation project partnership long term evolution, wireless multicast techniques which send the same data to multiple users under single frequency networks have attracted much attention. In the multicast system, the transmission mode needs to be selected for efficient data transfer while satisfying the multicast coverage requirement. To achieve this, users' channel state information (CSI) should be available at the transmitter. However, it requires too much uplink feedback resource if all the users are allowed to transmit their CSI at all the time. To solve this problem, in this paper, the multicast coverage prediction is suggested. In the proposed algorithm, each user measures its transition probabilities between the success and the fail state of the decoding. Then, it periodically transmits its CSI to the basestation. Using these feedbacks, the basestation can predict the multicast coverage. From the simulation results, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme can predict the multicast system coverage.

Comparison of propagation models based on DTV field strength measurement in urban environment (대도심 DTV 전계강도 측정에 기반한 전파예측 모델 비교)

  • With the rapid development of wireless communication at VHF and UHF bands, there is an increasing need for the reliable propagation prediction tools. Therefore, the different propagation models that have been developed in many countries as well as korea has been trying to secure a model suitable for their geographical area but then it is giving us a different result when we compared it to measured values. In this paper, based on the measurements of DTV broadcasting services in domestic urban area, analysis and comparison of ITU-R P.1546 and BCAST models provide errors between measured and predicted values, and some points for improving SMI system has been proposed. As a result, P.1546 model provides the valid predicted data similar to measured data, but BCAST model has some problems of large deviation and higher prediction to measured data. In future, these problems and diffractions due to high buildings need to be studied further.

  • In sensor network environments, each sensor measures the physical environments according to the sampling period, and transmits a sensor reading to the base station. Thus, the sample period influences against importance resources such as a network bandwidth, and a battery power. In this paper, we propose new adaptive sampling technique that adjusts the sampling period of a sensor with respect to the features of sensor readings. The proposed technique predicts a future readings based on KF (Kalman Filter). By using the differences of actual readings and estimated reading, we identify the importance of sensor readings, and then, we adjust the sampling period according to the importance. In our experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our technique.

  • 본 시스템은 회귀 알고리즘을 이용한 실시간 모니터링 무선관리 시스템으로 현재 대부분의 업무는 모니터링 시스템과 같은 관제 시스템 및 다수의 PC 통합 환경에 맞춰 대규모, 동적 관리가 필요한 시스템의 요구가 증가하고 있다. 또한 다양한 관제 시스템이 만들어지고 있지만 모니터링 시스템의 경우 관리자가 항상 대기 및 관찰하여 상황에 따른 에러에 대하여즉각적인 대처는 할 수 있지만 예측이나 예방을 하기는 힘든 실정이다. 또한 이러한 예측이 가능할 경우 즉각적인 처리를 위해서 에러가 예상되는 PC의 성능 및 작업을 실시간으로 어떻게 통보하여 처리해야 할지에 대한 방법도 필요한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 회귀알고리즘을 적용하여 사용자 PC의 성능을 분석 한 뒤 일어날 수 있는 상황이나 에러 등을 PC나 모바일 APP을 통해 실시간으로 처리하기 위하여 이상 이벤트 관리 및 시스템자원 분석 모듈 구현, 다수의 PC를 관리하는 소프트웨어 설계와 구현을 통해 이러한 문제를 해결하여 다수의 PC를 관리하며 실시간적으로 여러 가지 이벤트를 예상하고 시스템의 효율과 최적화를 이루고자 하였다. 또한 모바일 APP을 활용하여 사용자 PC의 실시간 처리 및 관리가 가능하기 때문에 관리자가 좀 더 원활한 업무수행 및 대처에 도움을 줄 수 있다.

Fast handover using MN's mobility history in PMIPv6 (PMIPv6에서 MN의 이동히스토리를 이용한 빠른 핸드오버 기법)

  • PMIPv6(Proxy Mobile IPv6)는 네트워크 기반 이동성 지원프로토콜로 MN(Mobile Node)에 이동성을 제공하기 위해 제안되었다. PMIPv6는 기존 호스트 기반 이동성 지원 프로토콜에 비해 MN이 핸드오버 시그널링에 참여하지 않기 때문에 무선구간에서의 자원 사용량 감소, MN의 에너지 소비량 감소, 그리고 핸드오버 시그널링 비용 감소의 향상된 성능을 보인다. 하지만 PMIPv6에는 핸드오버 시그널링으로 인한 지연 및 패킷손실의 문제점이 있다. MN이 다음에 이동할 위치를 알고 핸드오버를 미리 준비할 수 있다면 빠른 핸드오버를 지원할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 MN의 이동경로를 저장하여 이동히스토리를 구성하고 MN이 다음에 이동할 위치를 예측함으로써 빠른 핸드오버를 지원한다.

Efficient Call Control Scheme considering Handover Duration Time in Next Generation Mobile Communication Networks (차세대 이동통신망에서 핸드오버 지속시간을 고려한 호 제어 방법)

  • 본 논문에서는 지속적으로 증가하는 이동통신 가입자를 수용하고 초고속 모바일 데이터 서비스를 제공하기 위해서 무선 자원을 효율적으로 사용하기 위한 호 제어 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법에서는 핸드오버 호 요구를 효율적으로 처리하고 서비스 품질을 개선하기 위하여 핸드오버 지속시간(핸드오버 요구부터 기존 채널 절단까지의 핸드오버 영역에 머무르는 시간)을 고려하여 핸드오버 영역을 먼저 벗어나는 순서를 예측하고 이를 기준으로 우선순위가 높은 핸드오버 호를 먼저 처리한다. 제안된 방법의 성능을 분석하기 위하여 시뮬레이션을 수행하였으며, 가입자의 새로운 호의 발생 시간 간격과 호의 통화시간을 지수분포로 가정하고 지수분포의 memoryless property 특성을 이용하였다. 수행 결과, 제안된 방법이 기존의 FIFO(First-In-First-Out) 방법에 비하여 호의 블록킹 확률과 강제 종료 확률이 감소(평균 25.2%)됨을 알 수 있다.
