Model tests on free standing pile groups and piled footings with varying a pile spacing in two layered soils are carried out. The influence of pile cap on the behaviors of end bearing pile groups is analyzed by comparing the bearing behavior in piled footings with those in a single pile, a shallow footing(cap alone) and free standing pile groups. From the test results, it is found that the bearing characteristics of cap-soil-pile system are related with load levels and pile spacings. Before yield, the bearing resistance by cap is not fully mobilized, however, as the applied load increases, the bearing resistance of cap approaches to that of cap alone and settlement hardening occurs after yield due to the compaction caused by the contact pressure between cap and soil. By the cap-soil-pile interaction, shaft friction and point resistance of piles considerably increase with dependency of pile spacings. In two layered soil, the increasing effect of dilatancy in dense sandy soil adjacent to pile tips, increases the point resistance of pile.

Generally most of pile foundations are constructed with group pile rather than single pile. The study on efficiency and bearing capacity which are major elements for rational design of this group pile has been actively progressed, whereas there are truly only a few studies of negative skin friction working on group pile due to the consolidation of ground. The purpose of this study is to determine, among the elements of negative skin friction applied to pile, the occurrence modality of negative skin friction at center, side, and corner of $3{\times}3$ group pile using model test and, based on those observations, to propose the effective design direction of group pile.
Many transmission towers, high-rise buildings and bridges are constructed near steep slopes and are supported by large-diameter piles. These structures may be subjected to large lateral loads, such as violent winds and earthquakes. Widely used types of foundations for these structures are pier foundations, which have large-diameters with high stiffness. The behavior of a pier foundation subjected to lateral loads is similar to that of a short rigid pile because both elements seem to fail by rotation developing passive resistance on opposite faces above and below the rotation point, unlike the behavior of a long flexible pile. This paper describes the results of several numerical studies performed with a three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) of model tests of a laterally loaded short pile located near slopes, respectively. In this paper, the results of model tests of single piles and pile groups subjected to lateral loading, in homogeneous sand with 30$^{\circ}$ slopes and horizontal ground were analyzed by the 3-D FE analyses. The pile was assumed to be linearly elastic. The sand was assumed to have non-associative characteristics, following the MC-DP model. The failure criterion is governed by the Mohr-Coulomb equation and the plastic potential is given by the Drucker-Prager equation. The main purpose of this paper is the validation of the 3-D elasto-plastic FEM by comparisons with the experimental data.
In this study, a complex behavior connector is proposed to overcome the problems that may occur when small pile pipe and micro pile is used as a friction pile concept in the lower foundation of an oil sand plant where a piloti foundation is used. The individual settlement and heaving of piles were connected in one group to allow the composite behavior. This study performed to analyze the load carrying capacity to identify a complex behavior. In addition, the shape of the composite behavior connector was examined to apply the advantages of pile-group and piled raft foundations to oil sand plants. A scale model was constructed to measure the behavior of the load. The stability and weakness of the device were selected to determine the shape of the connector using the scale model testing.

Theoretical equations are derived to estimate the larteral earth pressures acting on piles with various shape of pile section due to lateral soil movements. And also examination of characteristics of the equations and comparison with other equations are carried out. The equations can be derived by calculating the difference between the two earth pressures acting on front and back sides of pile's row under plastic state satisfying Mohr-Coulomb's yield criterion, which is developed on tile soil between two piles among the piles in a row. The theoretical equations can reasonably consider the pile section-shape, the pile interval and the plastic condition in the soils just around piles. Additionally, the factors about soils and piles influencing on the lateral earth pressures are clarified and the high reliability of the equations is proved.

In general, Korean Lightweight Concrete used Heat insulating material for building and filler for civil construction, backfill material for tunnel, office floor fillers, lightweight blocks and so on. These expand the range of use ALC(autoclaved lightweight concrete) on the soft-ground at regular intervals during road construction by installing piles used as substrates for the process is under study. In this study, behavior characteristics on the soft-ground of pavement analysis was used to test the geo-Centrifuge. Prototype pavement reduced to 1/30 slab form of the composition as kaolinite model tests were conducted in the soft ground. Pile Arrangement (having 36 component pile with an array of $3{\times}12$) was used to group of piles. Tests of gravity 30 level the centrifugal force acting Light-weight pavement models. Based on the Prototype pavement of the behavior characteristics of pavement behavior characteristics were estimated. FMA analysis of the 10 times as big 39.4kg (actual load 35 ton) of the lateral load is applied to the case 7.8mm (actual behavior 23.4mm) behavior was fine.

It is known from the previous study on the behavior of sharter single pile during simulated seaquake induced by the vertical component of earthquake that the compressive capacity and the soil plugging resistance of single open-ended pipe pile were completely degraded. But, the capacity of single open-ended pipe pile with greater penetration and the capacity of piles group with shorter penetration were expected to be stable after seaquake motion. In this study, first single pile, 2-pile or 4-pile groups with several simulated penetrations were driven into the calibration chamber with saturated fine medium sand and the compressive load test for each installed pile or pile groups was performed. Then, about 95% compressive load of the ultimate capacity was applied on the pile head during the simulated seaquake motion. Finally, to confirm the reduction of pile capacity during the simulated seaquake motion, the compressive load test for each single pile or pile groups after seaquake motion was performed. During the simulated seaquake, compressive capacities of single open-ended pipe pile and piles group installed in shallow sea were not decreased. But, the stability of open-ended pile installed in deep sea was depended on the pile penetration depth. So, single open-ended pile with greater penetration of 27 m was stable, and 2-pile and 4-pile groups with penetration more than 13m were stable. But, 2-pile groups with penetration of 7m was failed, and the compressive capacity of 4-pile groups with penetration of 7m was degraded about 15%.

In this study, the virtual fixed point analysis and 3D fully modeling analysis for bent pile structures are conducted by considering various influencing factors and the applicability of the virtual fixed point theory is discussed. Also, the optimized column-pile length ratio is analyzed for supplementing virtual fixed point design and examining a more exact behavior of bent pile structures by taking into account the major influencing parameters such as pile length, column and pile diameter, reinforcement ratio and soil conditions. To obtain the detailed information, the settlement and lateral deflection of the virtual fixed point theory are smaller than those of 3D fully modeling analysis. On the other hand, the virtual fixed point analysis overestimates the axial force and bending moment compared with 3D fully modeling analysis. It is shown that the virtual fixed point analysis cannot adequately predict the real behavior of bent pile structures. Therefore, it is necessary that 3D fully modeling analysis is considered for the exact design of bent pile structures. In this study, the emphasis is on quantifying an improved design method (optimized column-pile length ratio) of bent pile structures developed by considering the relation between the column-pile length ratio and allowable lateral deflection criteria. It can be effectively used to perform a more economical and improved design of bent pile structures.
The SCP(sand compaction pile) method which is a vertical reinforcing technique for soft ground using a sand compaction pile has received increasing popularity in Korea. Currently, there are different methods to evaluate the bearing capacity of the reinforced ground by the SCP method. However, a method that can consider the effect of the replacement ratio on the bearing capacity is not yet available. This study investigated the effect of the replacement ratio on the bearing capacity of the reinforced ground by the SCP method. The study involved laboratory experiments which were conducted on a centrifuge facility. Test conditions included various ranges of replacement ratios (20, 30, and 40%), centrifuged consolidation, and loading. From the results of the study, a method which can evaluate the bearing capacity of the reinforced ground was proposed and verified using the weighted average of the replacement ratio.
