Study on the Latent Heat Characteristics of the Organic Compound, $C_{28}H_{58}$ and the Inorganic Compound, $CH_3COONa{\cdot}3H_2O$ (유기잠열재, $C_{28}H_{58}$과 무기잠열재, $CH_3COONa{\cdot}3H_2O$의 잠열특성연구)

  • In this research, Octacosane($C_{28}H_{58}$) and Sodium Acetate Trihydrate($CH_3COONa{\cdot}3H_2O$) were selected as latent heat storage materials to store off-peak electricity or waste heat of an industrial plant. Experimental analyses were performed in terms of the variation of phase change temperature and latent heat, phase change stability for the long term utilization. The results were as follows. 1. The phase change temperatures of industrial grade Octacosane and Sodium Acetate Trihydrate were $60.7^{\circ}C$ and $57.4^{\circ}C$, the latent heat were 60.6kcal/kg and 51.1kcal/kg respectively. 2. The latent heat quantity of Octacosane was decreased with the increasing number of phase change cycles. It decreased from 60.6kcal/kg to 47.2kcal/kg upto 200 cycles and then no variation was observed after 200 cycles. 3. To prevent the supercooling of Sodium Acetate Trihydrate, the nucleating agent, Sodium Pyrophosphate Decahydrate of 3 wt% was added, and then the supercooling temperature (Tm-Tsc) was decreased from $25.7^{\circ}C$ to $1^{\circ}C$. The phase separation was disappeared by the addition of CMC-Na of 3 wt% as a thickener. It was found that the optimal quantity of nucleating agent and thickener was 4wt% considering the stability of SAT as a latent heat storage material. 4. The phase change temperature of Sodium Acetate Trihydrate($CH_3COONa{\cdot}3H_2O$) was adjusted from 57.4 to $46.2^{\circ}C$ by the addition of UREA. And then the latent heat quantity was decreased from 51.1 to 38.3kcal/kg. 5. When the heat storage capacities between the sensible and latent heat storage materials were analyzed and compared in heating process from 30 to $90^{\circ}C$, the heat storage capacity of Octacosane was 2.45 times larger than water and 12.5 times than granite at $60.7^{\circ}C$, and the heat storage capacity of Sodium Acetate Trihydrate was 2.53 times larger than water and 12.91 times than granite at $57.4^{\circ}C$.

Nutrient Composition and Physicochemical Properties of Korean Taro Flours According to Cultivars (품종별 국내산 토란 분말의 영양성분 및 이화학적 특성)

  • Three varieties of taro flours (Altoran, Josaengjong, and Jaeraejong) were analyzed to evaluate their nutrient composition and physicochemical properties. Moisture contents of the three taro cultivars varied from 5.74-10.30%. Among the three cultivars, Altoran flour had higher protein and fat contents than other cultivars. There were 17 kinds of amino acids in the three taro flours. The major fatty acids in the three taro flours were linoleic acid (46.5-51.4%), palmitic acid (21.7-25.8%), and oleic acid (12.3-18.7%), and two thirds of the total fatty acids were unsaturated fatty acids. Potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, and calcium were the most plentiful minerals in the three taro flours, and the free sugars were glucose, fructose, and sucrose. The total dietary fiber contents of the three taro flours ranged from 12.97 to 17.60%. From these results, Altoran contained a high level of dietary fiber, minerals, essential amino acids, and free sugars. Jaeraejong showed the highest water absorption index. The water soluble index of Altoran was higher than that of the other cultivars. From the differential scanning calorimeter results, the gelatinization temperatures of the three taro flours were $84.98-89.91^{\circ}C$. The pasting temperature of the three taro flours was from 46.77 to $49.30^{\circ}C$ by rapid visco-analyzer. Among these varieties, Josaengjong had the highest peak viscosity and final viscosity, whereas Altoran had the lowest. These taro cultivars are expected to be potential material for application in taro processed foods, due to their gelatination and pasting properties.

Synthesis of the Fe2O3-CoO-Cr2O3-MnO2 pigments by co-precipitation method (공침법에 의한 Fe2O3-CoO-Cr2O3-MnO2계 안료 연구)

  • The inorganic pigments of $Fe_2O_3-CoO-Cr_2O_3-MnO_2$ were synthesized by the co-precipitation method. $FeCl_3,\;CoCl_2,\;CrCl_3\;and\;MnCl_2$ are used for the starting raw materials, and 2 N-KOH for precipitator. $MnCl_2$ is secured with 10 mole%, and 6 composition ratios are used with three ingredients to synthesize the pigments. The samples were calcined at $1350^{\circ}C/1.5h$. The resulting pigments were characterized by using XRD, FT-IR, SEM, and UV spectrophotometer. 6wt% pigments were applied to lime glaze and lime-barium glaze respectively firing at $1260^{\circ}C$ for oxidation atmosphere and $1240^{\circ}C$ for reduction one. The results of color analysis by using UV spectrophotometer showed black, bluish black and dark grayish green.

  • Fungi which produce red pigment were isolated from tapioca chips, Korean Koji, air, and plant leaves. Among the Fungi, T-1 strain was selected as test strain. This strain was identified as a Monatcus sp. by the morphological propeties. Various culture conditions, and physical and physiological characteristics of red pigment were studied. According to the studies of culture conditions, optimum condition was found to be pH 6.5; 4 days of incubation; temperature, 32~33 c: 3.5% of Tapioca chips powder as carbon source, 0.2% of sodium nitrate as nitrogen source and 100 ml of medium in the 500 ml Erlenmyer flask at a rotary shaker (rpm180) as aeration condition. Also effective levels of vitamins, amino acids and inorganic compounds was found to be l$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml of folic acid and niacin; 0.3% of L-arginine, L-glutamic acid and L-proline; and 0.001% of manganese dioxide giving good results.

  • Candida brumptii was one of the best isolates which could grow on alcohol distillation slops (reported in the previous paper). Attempts were made to investigate the cultural conditions for cell mass production by this strain, and the results obtained were as follow. The supernatant of the alcohol distillation slops without dilution support ed better growth of the strain than diluted ones. The addition of ammonium sulfate (0.2%), ammonium phosphate (0.1-0.2%), potassium phosphate (0.2%) to the supernatant resulted in positive effects for the growth, among the various inorganic nitrogen and other salts supplements. BOD and COD of the supernatant were reduced approximately 30% and 20%, respectively in 3 days culture. Cell production was maximized when grown at $35^{\circ}C$ and pH 5.0. The yield of cell mass was 1.03% by dry weight and its crude protein content was about 52.65%

Fabrication Process and Impact Characteristic Analysis of Metal Matrix Composite for Electronic Packaging Application (전자패키징용 금속복합재료의 제조공정 해석 및 충격특성평가)

  • This study developed fabrication process of $SiC_p/Al$ metal matrix composites as electronic packaging materials by squeeze casting method. The $SiC_p$ preform were fabricated in newly designed preform mold using about 0.8 % of inorganic binder(SiO$_2$) and 5 vol.% of $Al_2O_3$fiber. To infiltrate the molten metal into the preform, fabrication condition such as the temperature and the pressure were selected. Applying the fabrication conditions, heat transfer analysis were preformed using finite element method and thus analyzed the temperature distribution and cooling characteristic during the squeeze casting. For the fabricated composites, impact toughness and thermal expansion coefficient were measured. The metal matrix composites developed in this study have 0.2~0.3 J impact toughness, $8~10 ppm/^{\circ}C$ thermal expansion coefficient and $2.9~3.0g/cm^3$density which is appropriate properties for electronic packaging application.

Characterization and Analysis of Painted Pigments for the Clay Statues in Donggwanwangmyo Shrine, Seoul (서울 동관왕묘 소조상 채색안료의 정밀분석 및 동정)

  • The Donggwanwangmyo Shrine was built in the period of Joseon Dynasty in 1602. There are Clay Statues (Gwanwo, Jangbi, Woojanggun, Juchang, Jojaryoung and so on) enshrined in the inside of the main hall. Original color of these Clay Statues are deteriorated by inorganic pollutant like dust. And the origanal forms were damaged during several process of restorations and repaintings. This study carried out XRD, SEM-EDS, P-XRF and chromaticity measurement for characterization of pigments which painted on Clay Statues. As a result, cinnabar, hematite and red lead were used to paint in pigments for the red and brown colors. Light red pigment was made by gypsum with these minerals that make colors. Graphite and gold were used to color of black and gold pigment, respectively. Green pigment is identified of malachite, atacamite and glauconite. Blue pigment which is clearly painted on Clay Statues is interpreted a morden industrial pigment that were painted at repair work. White pigments are detected calcite, gypsum and silver white. Orpiment and litharge were used to color of yellow and light yellow pigment.

Preparation of Organic-inorganic Hybrid PES Membranes using Fe(II) Clathrochelate (Fe(II) clathrochelate을 이용한 유.무기 PES 복합막의 제조)

  • Metal-templated condensation of cyclohexanedione dioxime and phenylboronic acid in the presence of Fe(II) sulfate heptahydrate proceeds cleanly in methanol to furnish the Fe(II) clathrochelate. An organic/inorganic hybrid membranes composed of Fe(II) clathrochelate and polyethersulfone was prepared by using phase inversion method. For membrane preparation, the Fe(II) clathrochelate was highly soluble (3~5 g/L) in DMF, NMP, and DMAc, which meets the requirements for the solubility of metal complexes in polar aprotic solvent used in membrane preparation. It was stable even in the presence of strong acids, such as trifluorosactic acid (pKa = 0.3). It was characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, and their stability in solution phase studied in the presence of (i) strong acids or (ii) competing chelates. Organic/inorganic hybrid membranes were prepared with polyethersulfone, polyvinylpyrrolidone, p-toluenesulfonic acid, Fe(II) clathrochelate and DMF by using nonsolvent induced phase inversion method. The addition of Fe(II) clathrochelate leads increase of surface pore density, mean pore size and flux. We can obtain highly asymmetric membranes by addition of Fe(II) clathrochelate.

백상지 공정수가 백상지 물성에 미치는 영향

  • 용수 다소비 산업인 제지산업은 날로 심해지는 환경규제에 대처하기 위해 청수사용 량을 줄이고 백수의 재활용을 극대화하며, 궁극적으로는 폐수를 배출시키지 않는 무방류화 공정의 실현을 위해 많은 연구와 노력을 경주하고 있다. 제지공정의 폐쇄화가 성공적으로 이루어지기 위해서는 폐수의 처리를 통한 수질 개선 및 처리수의 재활용을 제고하는 방안을 채용할 수 있으나, 제지공정의 막대한 용수 사용량을 생각할 때 방출되는 공정수를 이와 같 은 방법으로 완전히 정화, 재사용한다는 것은 경제적으로 비현실적이라 할 수 있다. 따라서 공정수의 정화 및 정화된 처리수의 재활용율 제고를 통하여 제지공정의 무방류화를 실현하 더라도 공정수의 수질 악화는 필연적으로 발생하게 되며 따라서 이에 대한 다각적인 대처 가 요청된다. 제지공정의 무방류화에 따른 수질의 악화는 용수 내 미세분 및 이온성 물질의 누적 을 통해 이루어지며, 이로 인해 펠트 플러깅, 첨가제의 성능저하, 슬라임 및 악취 발생, 제품 의 품질저하 등 여러 가지 문제들이 발생하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 백상지 공정의 폐쇄화를 실험실적으로 재현하여 용수 내 미세분 및 각종 이온성 물질의 누적이 종이의 불성에 미치는 영향을 평가하고자 하였다. 백상지 공정 수 내에는 도공파지의 유입과 다량의 충전제 사용에 의하여 상당량의 회분성분이 미세분으 로 포함되어 있다. 이에 백상지 공정의 폐쇄화 단계에 따라 용수 내 누적되는 회분의 특성 변화를 파악하고, 이것이 종이 물성에 대한 영향을 살펴보았다. 또 백수의 재활용에 따른 각 종 이온성 물질의 누적이 종이의 물성에 미치는 영향도 평가하였다. 이러한 이온성 물질의 대상은 칼습 경도 및 전기전도도에 영향하는 무기 이온성 물질과 COD 및 BOD에 영향하는 유기 이온성 물질로 구분하여 평가하였다. 이후 계내에 존재하는 각 이온성 물질의 농도 증 가에 따라 종이를 제조하여 물성의 변화를 파악하였다.

Effect of Municipal Sewage Sludge on Soil Chemical Properties and Growth of Rose (Rosa hybrida L.) (생활하수슬러지가 토양 화학성 및 장미의 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to find out the effect of municipal sewage sludge on the growth and heavy metal content of rose and soil chemical properties. Municipal sewage sludge was applied to soil at rate of 0, 3, 5, 10 and 15 ton/10a, the plant height, flower number and stem size of rose were found to be increase in the treatments of sewage sludge. Contents of mineral nutrients in rose stem were determined to be higher at municipal sewage sludge application plots than those of no application. But, there were not any significant increases of heavy metal contents in soil and rose stem with the sludge applications. from the results of this study, it is apparent that the application of municipal sewage sludge would not increase available heavy metals in soil.
