Two individuals ($sp_1$, $sp_2$) of purple and one individual ($sd_1$) of red hearted flower were selected from 18 years old Hibiscus syriacus trees obtained from the seeds treated with colchicine, and their morphological and physiological characteristics were investigated and following results were obtained. 1. The somatic chromosome number of the selected individuals, $sp_1$, $sp_2$, and $sd_1$ were 2n=160, while that of the check tree was 2n=80, indicating that the selected individuals, $sp_1$, $sp_2$ and $sd_1$ were tetraploid. 2. Peroxidase isoenzyme bands of high activity in selected individuals, $sp_1$, $sd_1$ and check tree were mostly in cathode, fixed band was f and v bands, and frequency of each band and their activity were not different between selected individuals, $sp_1$ and $sd_1$ and check tree. 3. The flowers of $sp_1$ individual were large in size and more dark purple than check tree's. The flowers of $sp_2$ individual were not increased in size, but they were dark purple and red heart at the base of the petal was expanded to 2/3 of the petal length. The flower of $sd_1$ individual was also large and some of the red lines from the petal base were extended to 2/3 of the petal length, which was much longer than those of the check tree. 4. Thickess of leaves, length of guard cells, diameter of pollens, wood fiber lengths and woody fiber widths were all increased in $sp_1$, $sp_2$ and $sd_1$ as compared to those of the check tree. 5. Survival percentage of cuttings was 80% with $sp_1$ and 36% with $sd_1$, and their growth performance were inferior to control in their second growing season.

그간 무궁화 보급운동은 무궁화가 가지고 있는 속성과 품종의 선택, 식재방법 및 관리에 대한 기본개념이 정립되지 않은 상태에서 추진되어온 결과 다소 잘못 된 점이 도출 되었을 뿐 아니라 국민들이 좋아할 만큼 성공되지 못하였다. 세계적으로 무궁화를 가로수나 정원수로 삼고 있는 나라는 온대지역에 속하는 대부분의 나라로 알려져 있고 특히 그리스나 이태리에서 주택가나 가로수로 식재 되고 있다. 그러나 그 가로수는 우리가 일반적으로 생각하고 있는 느티나무, 은행나무, 버드나무등과 같이 크게 자라는 나무가 아니므로 주택가나 꽃길조성에 식재 되어 왔다. 이제 무궁화는 어느 곳이든 잘 자라는 수벽이나 꽃동산으로 이용하고 아무데서나 잘 자란다는 "고정관념"을 버려야 한다. 우리가 아름다운 나라꽃을 보기 위하여 무궁화를 심었는데 자라지도 못하고 꽃도 피지 못하여 단지 무궁화나무의 형체만 가지고 있을 뿐 우리가 바라는 꽃나무의 구실을 못한다면 오히려 심지 않은 것만 못하다는 뜻이다. 양적으로 많이 심는 것보다 적은 량을 심더라도 가치 있게 심고 가꾸는 것이 더 중요하다. 그러므로 다음과 같은 적지를 잘 선정하여 심고 항상 충분한 비배관리를 해 주어야 한다.

한국통신은 현재 동경 116도 궤도에 무궁화1호 및 2호를 운영하며 통신 및 방송 서비스를 제공하고 있다. 무궁화 3호 위성은 대용량 위성으로 1/2호 위성의 중계기 용량을 모두 수용하며 동남아 지역을 대상으로 하는 가변빔 및 Ka-band 중계기를 탑재하고 있다. 3호 위성은 발사 후 동경 116도에 위치하여 올해로 수명이 다하는 1호 위성이 제공하는 서비스 및 2호 위성 서비스를 수용할 예정이며, 2호 위성은 113도로 이동하여 신규 서비스를 수용할 예정이다. 본 고에서는 무궁화3호 위성 탑재체의 설계사양 및 설계단계 성능분석에 대해 간략하게 소개하며, 분석결과와 실제 측정 데이터를 비교하였다. 또한 Ka-band 중계기의 주요 성능 파라미터들의 변화에 따라 디지털 통신캐리어를 가정하여 무궁화3호 위성 통신시스템의 비트오율 성능분석을 실시하였다. 시뮬레이션을 실시한 이유는 탑재체에 실제 서비스 캐리어가 실린 경우 탑재체의 통신품질을 예측하기 위함이다. 무궁화3호 위성의 공정현황 및 제공서비스에 대해서도 간략하게 소개하였다.

This study was worked to investigate the antioxidant activity and the blood circulation improvement effect of two Hibiscus syriacus extracts divided into fermented H. syriacus extract and non-fermented H. syriacus extract. As the results of in vitro experiment, both of fermented H. syriacus extract and non-fermented H. syriacus extract had the DPPH free radical scavenging effect and the high contents of polyphenol and flavonoid known as antioxidant components in dose-dependent manner. Six weeks female C57BL/6 mice were divide into four groups and fed high diets for 28 days. Also fermented H. syriacus extract and non-fermented H. syriacus extract was daily intraperitoneal administration for 28 days at 2 mg/kg of body weight of mice. In vivo C57BL/6 mice experiment of normal diet group (NOR), high-fat diet group (CON), high-fat diet plus fermented H. syriacus extract group (FHS) and high-fat diet plus non-fermented H. syriacus extract group (NFHS), each of total cholesterol, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein (LDL) was decreased in both of FHS and NFHS groups, meanwhile high density lipoprotein (HDL) was increased (p<0.01). Conclusion, the results confirmed that H. syriacus containing the high contents of the antioxidant activity components had the significant effects of blood circulation improvement.

우리나라도 통신위성을 갖게 됐다. "무궁화위성이 발사된 것이다. 비록 당초 계획 보다 수명단축이 예상되고 있긴 하지만 이번 무궁화호 발사로 위성시대가 개막된 것은 사실이다. 앞으로 통신위성이 가져다줄 영향은 매우 클 것이며, 정보시대를 더욱 실감나게 해줄 것이다."

Wrinkle formation and dryness are the most well-known symptoms of skin aging. This study investigated skin anti-aging and moisturizing effects of Mugunghwa (Hibiscus syriacus L.), the national flower of Korea. The effect of H. syriacus L. flower extract was examined in skin cells originating from humans in vitro and in hairless mice exposed to UVB in vivo. The in vivo study results showed that skin hydration-related factors such as involucrin, filaggrin, HAS1, HYAL1, and matrix metalloproteinase-I (a primary skin photoaging factor) were regulated by H. syriacus L. Additionally, epidermal thickness and collagen disruption, which resulted in wrinkle formation and skin dryness, were ameliorated by oral administration of H. syriacus L. These results indicate that H. syriacus L. flowers can play important roles in preventing aging and promoting skin moisturizing.

본 논문에서는 무궁화위성의 발사단계에서부터 궤도상 운용에 이르기까지 각 임무 단계별로 필요한 궤도제어 기법을 살펴보았다. 정지궤도 통신/방송 위성은 정지궤도 진입 및 정지궤도상에서 임무 수행을 위한 정밀 궤도 제어 등 궤도제어와 관련하여 궤도 결정과 함께 지상국용 임무설계 S/W를 필요로 한다. 정지궤도 위성의 이러한 궤도 제어 기술은 향후 국내의 자체 정지궤도 위성 개발시 관련 기술의 국산화에 많은 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다. 또한 현재 무궁화위성 1, 2호의 운용기술을 자체 습득하고 고도화하는 노력도 향후 계속되는 국내 수요에 대비하여 계속되어야 할 것이다.

본 연구는 지금까지는 초보 단계에 머룰러 있지만 무궁화위성의 발사를 계기로 점차 활성화되고 있는 우리나라의 위성사업에 대해 먼저 알아보고, 이 위성사업의 기술적, 경제적 파급효과를 분석하였다. 위성 서비스 시장 규모는 초기에는 500억원 정도에 머물겠으나, 무궁화위성의 수명이 거의 끝나가는 2005년에는 약 1500억원 정도로 커질 것이다. 그리고 위성 관련 단말기 시장은 연간 1500억원 정도 될 것으로 예상된다. 특히 DBS 서비스와 위성 비디오통신 서비스는 서비스 시장의 2/3 이상을 차지하는 큰 시장이 될 것이며, DBS 수신기 시장도 성장 가능성이 매우 큰 분야이다. 무궁화위성은 우리나라를 위성 보유국의 대열에 낄 수 있게 하였으며, 위성 제작 기술 보유국이 되는 기반을 마련할 수 있게 하였다. 무궁화위성 이후의 위성사업계획과 연구 투자 계획에 비추어 볼 때, 2000년대가 되면 우리나라도 위성 발사체 분야를 제외한 대부분의 위성기술을 보유하는 나라가 될 것으로 예상된다.

This study was carried out to develop new cultivars of Hibiscus species from crosses between introduced interspecific hybrids and cultivars in Hibiscus species. Fruit setting of interspecific crosses of Hibiscus strains was less than 10% and the number of seeds in the fruit was also in low level. Three individuals of specific flower and leaf characteristics were selected from crosses between introduced interspecific hybrid, 'Fujimusme'(♀), and H. syriacus 'Namwon'(♂) in 2004. A new strain, Hibiscus ${\times}$ 'W-26', was selected from the crossing of interspecific hybrid, 'Fujimusme'(♀), and H. syriacus 'Namwon'(♂), which had white flower and narrow separated petal. Hibiscus ${\times}$ 'WRB-2' was selected from the crossing of interspecific hybrid, 'Fujimusme'(♀), and H. syriacus 'Namwon'(♂), which had white flower and blue eye spot. Hibiscus ${\times}$ 'R-141' was selected from crosses between introduced interspecific hybrid, 'Shichisai'(♀) and H. syriacus 'Namwon'(♂), which had large flowers over 13 cm diameter and revealed tall tree type. Hibiscus ${\times}$ 'R-142' was selected from the crossing of interspecific hybrid, 'Shichisai'(♀), and H. syriacus 'Namwon'(♂), which had large flowers over 13 cm diameter and revealed tall tree type. The characteristics were succeded after grafting. Flower of 'R-142' had reddish violet color with red eye spot, whereas its parent had blue and purple flowers.
