Effect of Betaine on Immune Response in Laying Hens (비태인이 산란계의 면역 반응에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of betaine on immune response in laying hens. A total of 72 ISA-brown laying hens were divided into four groups of 18 hens each and fed corn-soybean meal based diets with addition of 0, 300, 600 and 1,200 ppm betaine for four weeks. The effect of betaine on splenocyte proliferations with mitogens, concanavalin A(Con A) and pokeweed mitogen(PWM), were assayed after incubation using [3H] thymidine uptake. Proliferations of splenocyte were significantly increased by activation of mitogen Con A or PWM. Mitogen effects of Con A were increased by Con A plus betaine injection(0.1 mM), whereas PWM effects did not affect in PWM plus betaine injection(0.1 mM) in vitro. Splenocyte of laying hens fed betaine tended to proliferate in the presence of PWM, but appeared to be slightly suppressed in the presence of Con A in vivo. Proliferation of splenocytes which were stimulated by Con A or Con A+betaine injection(0.1 mM) were increased in dietary 600 ppm betaine, but inhibited in dietary 1,200 ppm betaine supplementation. Spleen weights and sheep red blood cell(SRBC) titers of hens fed betaine tended to increase compared to those of control, but were not significantly different. These results suggested that betaine could increase splenocyte proliferation in vitro.

Effect of Dietary Supplementation of Yellow Loess on Physiological Performance and Carcass Grade in Pigs (황토의 식이 내 첨가에 의한 돼지의 생리적 특성과 등급판정에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to examined the effect of dietary supplementation of yellow loess on the growth performance and blood component profiles in pigs. A total of one hundred fifty three pigs (60 one weeks old piglets and 93 adult pigs). Piglets were randomly divided into 3 groups which were control, control + 0.5% yellow loess, control + 1% yellow loess. We measured body weight and weight gain among treatment group. Indeed, we obtained hematological data with WBC, RBC, Hb, Hct, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, and PLT in all loess supplemented group compared to the control. Adults were divided into 2 group (control and control + 1% yellow loess) and serum albumin levels in 1% yellow loess supplemented group was significantly higher than the control group (p<0.01). Amount of crude fat in feces was significantly reduced in yellow loess supplemented group (p<0.001), but no differences were observed at crude protein and crude ash in both groups. In carcass weight and back fat thickness, no significant differences were observed between control and yellow loess supplemented groups. The carcass grade was improved by the dietary supplementation of yellow loess compared to the pig fed control. As a results, dietary yellow loess improves nutrient absorption and carcass grade.

Development of Carbonization Technology and Application of Unutilized Wood Wastes(I) -Carbonization and It's Properties of Thinned Trees- (미이용 목질폐잔재의 탄화 이용개발(I) -수종의 간벌재 탄화와 탄화물의 특성-)

  • Objective of this research is to obtain fundamental data of carbonized wood wastes for soil condition, de-ordorization, absorption of water, carrier for microbial activity, and purifying agent for water quality of river. The carbonization technique and the properties of carbonized wood wastes(thinned trees) are analyzed. Proximate analysis shows the thinned wood contains 0.22-0.73% ash, 77-80% volatile matter, and 10-14% fixed carbon. The charcoal yield decreases and the shrinkage rate increases as the carbonization temperature and time increase. The charcoal yields of Larix leptolepis, Pinus rigida and Pinus densiflora are high, whereas those of Pinus koraiensis and Quercus variabilis are low. The shrinkage rate by carbonization has same trend as water removal of wood. The specific gravity after the carbonization decreases about 50% comparing to green wood. The charcoal has 0.89-4.08% ash, 6.31-13.79% volatile matter, and 73.9-83.5% fixed carbon. As the carbonization temperature and time increase, pH of charcoal increases. When the carbonization temperature is $400^{\circ}C$, pH is about 7.5. When the temperature is between 600 to $800^{\circ}C$, pH is about 10 with small difference. The water-retention capacity is not affected by the carbonization temperature and time. The water-retention capacity within 24hr is about 2.5 - 3times of sample weight, and the equivalent moisture content becomes 2-10% after 24 hr.

Quality Characteristics of the Potato Juice-Added Functional White Bread (감자즙을 첨가한 기능성 식빵의 품질 특성)

  • Quality characteristics of functional bread added with different concentrations of potato juice and processed by basic formulation were investigated. Specific volume and baking loss of bread added with 20% potato juice (potato juice : water = 20 : 80) were the highest. Moisture and crude protein contents increased with increasing content of potato juice, while crude lipid content decreased. Lightness (L value) and yellowness (b value) of bread decreased with increasing content of potato juice, while redness (a value) increased. Texture measurement showed springiness, cohesiveness, and brittleness increased with increase of potato juice content. Highest sensory scores for color (p < 0.001), flavor, and taste (p < 0.05) were obtained from bread added with 20% potato juice, while appearance (p < 0.01) and texture (p < 0.01) of control bread were highest. Glycoalkaloid contentsof bread added with 50 and 100% potato juice were 2.85 and 5.79 mg%, respectively.

  • Three different diet were made with meat for Crossbred pig ($^{\circ}_{+}$, 195 days old, $l15{\pm}5\;kg,\;Landrace{\times}Yorkshire{\times}Duroc$) and used as feed for rats after transformed into 12% protein, These diets include a pork not fed with tangerine peel during finishing period (Control, $T_0$), a pork fed with 3 and 5% tangerine peel during growing and finishing period, respectively ($T_1$), and a pork fed with 6 and 10% tangerine peel during growing and finishing period respectively($T_2$). The effects of the diet on physiological activities of rats were studied by feeding 17 weeks-old Sprague-Dawley rats with the three diets for 4 weeks. The feed intake, weight gain, feed efficiency ratio, and weight of liver, kidney, spleen and epididymal fat pad for the rats was similar among the diets. The total lipid level of liver was similar among $T_0,\;T_1\;and\;T_2$. However, it was found that $T_1\;and\;T_2$ had significantly lower triglyceride and cholesterol level than $T_0$(p<0.05). All the diet groups showed similar trends in terms of the serum total lipid, phospholipid, triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol level, and atherogenic index, hemoglobin level, and ${\gamma}-GTP$, ALT, AST and ALP activities.

Studies on the Electrochemical Dissolution for the Treatment of 10 g-Scale Zircaloy-4 Cladding Hull Wastes in LiCl-KCl Molten Salts (LiCl-KCl 용융염 내에서 10 g 규모의 Zircaloy-4 폐 피복관 처리를 위한 전기화학적 용해 연구)

  • The electrochemical behaviors of 10 g-scale fresh and oxidized Zircaloy-4 cladding hulls were examined in $500^{\circ}C$ LiCl-KCl molten salts to confirm the feasibility of the electrorefining process for the treatment of hull wastes. In the results of measuring the potential-current response using a stainless steel basket filled with oxidized Zircaloy-4 hull specimens, the oxidation peak of Zr appears to be at -0.7 to -0.8 V vs. Ag/AgCl, which is similar to that of fresh Zircaloy-4 hulls, while the oxidation current is found to be much smaller than that of fresh Zircaloy-4 hulls. These results are congruent with the outcome of current-time curves at -0.78 V and of measuring the change in the average weight and thickness after the electrochemical dissolution process. Although the oxide layer on the surface affects the uniformity and rate of dissolution by decreasing the conductivity of Zircaloy-4 hulls, electrochemical dissolution is considered to occur owing to the defect of the surface and phase properties of the Zr oxide layer.

  • 이제 카트 정렬과 휠 셋업에 필요한 최적의 변수들을 알아보았다. 실제 세팅은 위에서 언급한 내용 이외에도 많은 것들을 고려하여야 한다. 타이어 접지력의 세팅은 경기장, 날씨, 제품의 불 균일성 등을 고려하여 야 한다. 즉, 어떤 경기장은 코너의 반경이 다른 경기 장 보다 크며 어떤 경기장은 코너가 매우 많기도 하여 세팅을 상황에 맞게 하여야 하는 것이다. 각각의 변수를 세팅할 경우는 중간 값을 취하는 것이 바람직하여 이 중간 값을 취하는 것이 바람직하며 이 중간 값을 각각의 경기장의 특성에 맞추어 변화시키면 되는 것이다. 예를 들면, 접지력이 작게 발생되는 경기장(혹은 매우 추운날씨) 에서는 캐스터를 코기 하여 초기 회전 발생이 용이하게 할 수도 있다. 또한 토우인 값을 크게 하여 타이어가 마찰을 더욱 많이 발생하여 타이어의 온도가 급격히 상승하여 원하는 접지력의 수준에 용이하게 도달할 수 있게 하는 것이다. 그러나 이러한 세팅은 다른 핸들링 문제를 야기할 수 있다는 것을 이해하여야 하며 이러한 문제를 해결하는 또 다른 노력이 필요하게 되는 것이다. 가장 중요한 것은 후륜 내측으로부터는 조종 성능을 향상시키는데 필요한 접지력을 거의 기대하지 못한다는 것이며 마찰이 적게 발생하여 손쉽게 동력 손실을 초래하고 있다는 것이다. 그러므로 회전을 할 경우에도 속도를 낮추어서는 안되며 이렇게 하이야 핸들링이 매우 용이하게 되는 것이다. 그러나 위의 설명에서도 보았듯이 일부 세팅을 변경하면 여러 곳이 그 효과가 나타난다. 예를 들어 후륜의 간격을 변화시키면 카트에서 무게이동 뿐만 아니라 회전 시에 가속이나 감속에 의한 회전 토크의 효과도 달라지게 된다. 특정한 세팅의 변화가 어떻게 작용할 것이라는 확신을 가지고 있다고 할지라도 세팅에서 가장 중요한 것은 주행 기록이다. 여기서 설명되어진 많은 내용이 주행 기록을 향상시키기를 바라는 바이다.간이 육색과 총육색소 함량에는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 관능적 특성평가 중 육색과 육즙참출은 대조구와 비교하여 CLA급여 처리구가 유의적인 차이가 없었으나, 근내지방 축적 정도와 전체적인 기호성은 대조구에 비하여 CLA 급여 처리구가 유의적으로 높은 평가를 받았다(p<0.05). 간격은 술 후 1년 후까지도 지속적으로 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 따라서 이 기간동안에는 추적관찰이 필요한 것으로 생각된다.경미하게 나타났으며, 이는 2% 흥국 첨가식이의 섭취로 인한 bromobenzene 대사 및 유해산소 해독의 촉진에 기인되기 때문일 것으로 생각된다.다.과 및 지질과산화억제효과의 순과 일치하였다. 총 flavonoid 함량은 DPPH 라디칼 제거효과에 대한 $IC_{50}$/ 값과 높은 상관관계(r=-0.9924, p<0.01)를 나타내었다.이 우수한 심근보호 효과를 나타내나, 허혈시간이 2시간을 초과하면 심근의 혈역학적 기능과 미세구조의 변화는 중등도의 저온(22∼24$^{\circ}C$)에서 유의하게 악화되었다. 이 같은 결과로 볼 때 심근 허혈시간이 2시간을 초과한다면 심근 온도를 낮추어야 할 것으로 판단된다. 7.2, with 64.0% of office workers having an average level between 6- and 9.   • This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of the feeding value for the wild legumes silage-making with additives. The chopped Kudzu (Puerarie thunbergii Bentham) of wild legumes was ensiled by the conventional method in the small experimental silo of 2 liters. The additives used in the present experiments were water (8%),water (8%) plus corn starch (3%) and water (8%) plus glucose (3%). These additives as well as that of control without additive were set up and these silage were compared with the conventional corn silage. The fermentative qualities and the characteristic of fiber (neutral detergent fiber, NDF; acid detergent fiber, ADF; acid detergent lignin, ADL) of silage produced was determined by chemical analysis, and dry matter digestibility (DMD) was evaluated by pepsin-cellulase technique. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1 The weight of Kudzu silage was lost under the 10% for all the treatments. 2 In degree of pH for the Kudzu silages with glucose, starch, control and water treatments were high 3.80,4.04,4.57 and 5.34, respectively.

Preparation of Proton Conducting Crosslinked Membranes From PS-b-PHEA Diblock Copolymer and Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PS-b-PHEA 디블록 공중합체와 폴리비닐알콜을 이용한 수소이온 전도성 가교형 전해질막의 제조)

  • This work demonstrates the preparation of proton conducting crosslinked polymer electrolyte membranes by blending polystrene-b-poly(hydroxyethyl acrylate) (PS-b-PHEA) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) at 1 : 1 wt ratio. The PHEA block of the diblock copolymer was crosslinked with PVA using sulfosuccinic acid (SA) via the esterification reaction between -OH of membrane and -COOH of SA, as confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy. Ion exchange capacity (IEC) continuously increased from 0.14 to 0.91 meq/g with increasing concentrations of SA, due to the increasing portion of charged groups in the membrane. In contrast, the water uptake increased up to 20.0 wt% of SA concentration above which it decreased monotonically. The membrane also exhibited a maximum proton conductivity of 0.024 S/cm at 20.0 wt% of SA concentration. The maximum behavior of water uptake and proton conductivity is considered to be due to competitive effect between the increase of ionic sites and the crosslinking reaction according to the SA concentration.

Effects of Soil pH on Crude Components and Essential Oil Contents of Codonopsis lanceolata Trautv. (토양 pH가 더덕의 조성분과 정유성분 함량에 미치는 효과)

  • This experiment was to determine the effects of soil pH on crude components and aromatic constituents of Codonopsis lanceolata. Vine length of Codonopsis lanceolata grown at soil pH of 6.5 was longer(299cm) compared to that grown under other soil pHs. Fresh root weight increased at soil pH of 5.5 and 6.5, showing 17.9 and 15.6g per plant, respectively. Contents of crude components such as protein, fat, fiber, and ash decreased as soil became alkalized and crude ash content ranged from 2.99% to 3.85 %, showing a similar response to soil pH. Forty-eight volatile aromatic compounds in the root of Codonopsis lanceolata were identified by GC/MS. Major aromatic compounds were 1-hexanol, cis-3-hexanol, and trans-2-hexanol. In particular, trans-2-hexanol was highest in soil pH of 6.5, attaining the 156.87% area. Essential oil content was also highest at soil pH of 6.5 with 0.007%. As a result, it was considered that the soil pH of 6.5 was most effective for the improvement of essential oil and aromatic constituents in the roots of Condonopsis lanceolata Trautv.
