  • The reduction of $SO_2$ by CO over supported cobalt catalysts was investigated within the temperature range of $350{\sim}550^{\circ}C$, initial $SO_2$ concentration of 1000~10000 ppm, $CO/SO_2$ molar ratio of 1.0~3.0 and space velocity of $5000{\sim}15000h^{-1}$. Several types of supports such as ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$, $TiO_2$ were tested. The $SO_2$ conversion and selectivity to elemental sulfur were investigated using a differential fixed bed reactor at atmospheric pressure. The catalyst prepared by wet impregration of 5 wt % cobalt on ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ showed $SO_2$ conversion higher than 90% and COS yield lower than 6% at temperature above $400^{\circ}C$. The optimum $CO/SO_2$ molar ratio was investigated as 2.0. At higher $CO/SO_2$ molar ratio, the $SO_2$ conversion became higher but the main product was COS. The effect of $SO_2$ concentration and space velocity over $SO_2$ conversion and COS yield was not appreciable in the experimental range. The activated cobalt phase was detected as $CoS_2$ and the $CoS_2$ phase unchanged even after reaction.

  • thermochemical methane reforming consisting of two steps on Cu/Fe/Zr mixed oxide media was carried out using a fixed bed infrared reactor. In the first step, the metal oxide was reduced with methane to produce CO, $H_2$ and the reduced metal oxide in the temperature of 1173 K. In the second step, the reduced metal oxide was re-oxidized with steam to produce $H_2$ and the metal oxide in the temperature of 973 K. The reaction characteristics on the added amounts of Cu in Cu/Fe/Zr mixed oxide media and the cyclic tests were evaluated. With the increase of the added amount of Cu in Cu/Fe/Zr mixed oxide media, the conversion of $CH_4$, the selectivity of $CO_2$ and the $H_2/CO$ molar ratio were increased, while the selectivity of CO was decreased in the first step. On the other hand, the evolved amount of $H_2$ was decreased with increasing the added amount of Cu in the second step. The $Cu_xFe_{3-x}O_4/ZrO_2$ medium added with Cu of x = 0.7 showed good regeneration properties in the 10th cyclic tests indicating that the medium had high durability. In addition, the gasification of the deposited carbon in the water splitting step was promoted with the addition of Cu in the media.

  • Micron-sized alginate microparticles were formed in the water pools of reverse micelles (RM) composed of hexane/aerosol OT(AOT)/water through the gelation process between sodium alginate and $CaCl_2$. The size of microparticles formed increased as Wo (the molar ratio of water to surfactant) increased from 5 to 10. The microparticles became aggregated at Wo of 15, and stable RM no longer existed at Wo of 20. The characteristics of microparticles prepared at Wo of 5 and 10 showed significant differences in area, maximum diameter, minimum diameter, mean diameter, and perimeter of microparticles (p<0.05). However, there was no difference in appearance and roundness between the microparticles These results indicate that the size of microparticles are affected by Wo, whereas the overall shape of microparticles are not substantially influenced within Wo values used for stable RM formation. The mean diameter of microparticles was about $2{\sim}2.5\;{\mu}m$ and much smaller $(70{\sim}1,000\;times)$ than the reported sue of alginate microparticles formed in an aqueous medium.

  • Two types of modified celluloses which contain trinitrophenyl groups as chromophore were synthesized from carboxymethyl cellulose Whatman CM 70 and CM 32. Diaminoethyl groups were added to the CM 70 and CM 32 to make DAE-CM celluloses and then the DAE-CM groups were substituted by 2,4,6-trinitrophenyl groups to produce TNP-celluloses. Average particle size of the TNP-cellulose from CM 32 was $44.6{\pm}9.6{\mu}m$ in diameter and $127.9{\pm}22.5{\mu}m$ in length, which was much smaller than those from CM 70, however its TNP-moiety per gram determined by using the molar extinction coefficient $1.33{\times}10^4$ of ${\varepsilon}$-TNP-lysine at 345 nm, was 0.68 millimoles, which was 5.6-fold greater than those from CM 70. The absorption spectrum of TNP-oligosaccharides which were the soluble products of TNP-celluloses by a cellulase preparation Onozuka R-10, showed a maximal peak at 344 nm. Increases in the absorbance during hydrolysis were linear with the enzyme concentration, and the differences of slope values between two types of TNP-celluloses that the more semsitive assay could be achieved by using those from CM 32 as substrate at the low range of the enzyme concentration.

  • The effects of mole ratio(A/B) m and Ti-ion on the dielectric properties and microstructure of the microwave dielectric ceramics $(Ca_{0.7}Sr_{0.3})_m(Ti_yZr_{1-y})O_3$ were investigated. Ti ions substituted on Zr-sites in these modified $CaZrO_3$ composition strongly affect the sintering density and microstructure of the fired ceramic body. With increasing the amount of Ti substituted on Zr-sites, the sintered density rapidly increased and the dense microstructure was obtained for the compositions having mole ratio of 1.01, whereas the sintered density and microstructure are nearly constant with the content of Ti-ion for the compositions having mole ratio of 0.99. With increasing the content of Ti ion, the curve of TCC (Temperature Coefficient of Capacitance) as a function of temperature rotated clockwise and satisfied the COG characteristics for both of compositions with mole ratio of 0.99 and 1.01. The content of Ti ion seems to be more effective than mole with respect to the controlling of firing and TCC.

  • It is generated in DMF by activated catalysts of superoxo cobalt(III) complex, such as [Co(III)(Schiff base)(L)]O$_2$ (Schiff base; SED, SOPD and o-BSDT, L; DMF and Py) which mole ratio of oxygen to metal is 1:1 that oxidation major product of 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol by homogeneous oxidatve catalysts of oxygen adducted tetradentate Schiff base cobalt(III) is 2,6-ditert-butylbenzoquinone (BQ). And oxidation product of 3,3',5,5'-tetra-tert-butyldiphenoquinone (DPQ) is generated by activated catalysts such as $\mu$-peroxo cobalt(III) complex; $[Co(III)(SND)(L)]_2$$O_2$ (L; DMF and Py) which mole ratio of oxygen to metal is 1:2. It is difficult to identify these homogeneous activated catalysts such as superoxo and $\mu$-peroxo cobalt(III) complexes in DMF and DMSO solvents. But we can identify by P.V.T method of the oxygen absorption in pyridine solvent and by the reduction process occurred to four steps including prewave of O$_2$- in 1:1 oxygen adducted superoxo cobalt(III) complexes and three steps not including prewave of O$_2$- in 1:2 oxygen adducted $\mu$-peroxo cobalt(III) complexes by the cyclic voltammetry with glassy carbon electrode in 0.1 M TEAP as supporting electrolyte solutidn.

  • The effects of $Eu^{3+}$ doping on the structural, morphological, and optical properties of $MgMoO_4:Dy^{3+},Eu^{3+}$ phosphors prepared by solid-state reaction technique were investigated. XRD patterns exhibited that all the synthesized phosphors showed a monoclinic system with a dominant (220) diffraction peak, irrespective of the content of $Eu^{3+}$ ions. The surface morphology of $MgMoO_4:Dy^{3+},Eu^{3+}$ phosphors was studied using scanning electron microscopy and the grains showed a tendency to agglomerate as the content of $Eu^{3+}$ ions increased. The excitation spectra of the phosphor powders were composed of a strong charge transfer band centered at 294 nm in the range of 230~340 nm and two intense peaks at 354 and 389 nm, respectively, arising from the $^6H_{15/2}{\rightarrow}^6P_{7/2}$ and $^6H_{15/2}{\rightarrow}^4M_{21/2}$ transitions of $Dy^{3+}$ ions. The emission spectra of the $Mg_{0.85}MoO_4$:10 mol% $Dy^{3+}$ phosphors without incorporating $Eu^{3+}$ ions revealed a strong yellow band centered at 573 nm resulting from the $^4F_{9/2}{\rightarrow}^6H_{13/2}$ transition of $Dy^{3+}$. As the content of $Eu^{3+}$ was increased, the intensity of the yellow emission was gradually decreased, while that of red emission band located at 614 nm began to appear, approached a maximum value at 10 mol%, and then decreased at 15 mol% of $Eu^{3+}$. These results indicated that white light emission could be achieved by controlling the contents of the $Dy^{3+}$ and $Eu^{3+}$ ions incorporated into the $MgMoO_4$ host crystal.

  • Micellar aggregates are known to be useful for the selective isolation of biologically active materials such as amino acids, proteins, and enzymes from crude mixtures sparsely dispersed in water. In this study, the effects of pH, salt type and its concentration on the solubilization of $\alpha$-chymotrypsin into the organic micellar phase, which consisted of AOT (sodium 야(2-ethylhexy)sulfosuccinate) and iso-octane, were comprehensively examined. It was found that maximum extraction efficiency was attained at a pH below the isoelectric point of $\alpha$-chymotrypsin; at pH=5.0 for NaCl and KCl, and at pH=7.0 for $CaCl_2$and $MgCl_2$. In order to avoid complications stemming from the precipitationof protein at low pH interfaces, the protein concentrations in the organic and aqueous phases were directly measured. The size of the micelle water pool was estimated by measuring the molar ratio of the surfactant to the water, W(sub)o. The resulting values of W(sub)o were nearly constant at 30 and 19 for NaCl and KCl, respectively, and were independent of pH. The addition of 1:2 salts like $MgCl_2$and $CaCl_2$ led to much lower, but a constant value of, W(sub)o than the 1:1 salts.

  • The crystal structure of a bromine sorption complex of vacuum-dehydrated Ag+ and Ca2+ exchanged zeolite A(a=12,234(1) Å) has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods in the cubic space group Pm3m. The crystal was prepared by flow method using exchange solution in which mole ratio of AgNo3 and Ca(NO3)2 was 1:150 with a total concentration of 0.05M. The crystal was dehydrated at 360℃ and 2 ×10-6 Torr for 2days, followed by exposure to 180 Torr of Br2 vapor for 20min. full-matrix least-squares refinements converged to the final error indices of R1=0.111 and R2=0.101 using 90 reflections for which I>3o(I). About 3.1 Ag+ ions and 4.45 Ca2+ ions lie on the two crystallographically nonequivalent three-fold axes associated with 6-ring oxygens. A total of six bromine molecules are sorbed per unit cell. Each bromine molecule approaches a framework oxide ions axially (Br-Br-O=171(2)', O-Br=3.25(6) Å; and Br-Br=2,61(8) Å by a charge-transfer interaction.

  • In this study, Insoluble catalyst electrode for oxide systems were manufactured, by using of them, carried out experiments on electrolytic treatment of dyeing wastewater containing persistent organic compounds, and then made a comparative study of the efficiency of treatment for environmental pollutants and whether each of them is valuable of not as an electrode for soluble electrode(Fe, Al) and insoluble electrode(SUS, R.C.E; Replaced Catalyst Electrode) which were used in the electrolytic system. Besides, it was investigated the conditions for electrolytic treatment to find the maximum efficiency of electrolytic treatment. As the result of this study, by using of insoluble catalyst electrode for oxide can solved the stability of electrode that is one of the greatest problems in order to put to practical use of electrolysis process in the treatment of the sewage and wastewater and the result runs as follows; 1. The durability of insoluble catalyst electrode(R.C.E) can be verified the most favorable when the molar ratio of $RuO_2-SnO_2-IrO_2-TiO_2$(4 compounds system) is 70/20/5/5. 2. The efficiency of treatment was obtained a more than 90% goodness for CODMn and also a good results for T-N removal in the experimental conditions of the distance of electrode 5 mm, time of electrolysis 60 minutes, permissible voltage 10V, processing capacity $0.5{\ell}$.
