The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between neck posture and range of motion and neck disability index(NDI) in young adults with reduced cervical lordosis. This study selected 34 young adults with cervical lordosis reduced (Cobb's angle less than 35 degrees). The assessor measured neck flexion, extension, left lateral flexion, right lateral flexion, left rotation, right rotation and forward displacements of all subjects using cervical of range motion instrument, Then, the NDI was evaluated. After all assessments, degree for cervical lordosis was divided into two groups: bottom group(severe cervical lordosis) and top group(mild cervical lordosis). The bottom group was significantly higher in Cobb's angle, extension, left lateral flexion, right lateral flexion, left rotation, right rotation and forward displacement compared to the top group (p<.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups in flexion, NDI(p >.05). In comparison of subscale of NDI, top group was significantly higher in pain, lifting, and headache than bottom group (p <.05). In correlation analysis, Cobb's angle showed significant positive correlation with flexion, extension, left lateral flexion, right lateral flexion, left rotation and right rotation(p<.05), and showed significant negative correlation with forward displacement, NDI(p<.05). Cobb's angle showed a significant negative correlation with pain, lifting, and headache of subscale of NDI(p<.05). The findings of this study potentially suggest that neck posture may affect the cervical range of motion and pain.

This study aims to examine the correlation between pectoralis minor, shoulder mobility, and neck range of motion on rounded shoulder posture for Life-care increase in Women university student. The 80 female adults with rounded shoulder posture were selected for this study. Measurements of shoulder height were obtained by measuring the rounded shoulder posture using a caliper. To measure the length of pectoralis minor, a tape measure was used to measure from the point where the 4th rib and sternum meets to the inferior medial side of coracoid process. Shoulder mobility was measured by holding fists in both hands, then raising one side of the elbow until the palm on that side can be placed on the back, while lowering the other side of the elbow until the back of the hand on that side can be placed on the back. Neck range of motion was used to measure the neck movement including the flexion and the extension, lateral flexion to the right or to the left, and rotation to the right or to the left. The results of this study showed that there are significant negative correlations between pectoralis minor index, shoulder mobility, and neck range of motion in rounded shoulder posture(p<0.05). From these results, in female students with rounded shoulder, the lateral flexion of the neck to the left decreased as the left shoulder mobility increased, the neck extension decreased as the right pectoralis minor shortened, and the rotation of the neck to the left decreased as the left shoulder mobility increased.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to estimate the reliability of cervical range of motion measurement in healthy adults using smart phone application and goniometer that can be easily applicated in clinical setting. Methods : The cervical range of motion was measured as the flexion, extension, right rotation, left rotation, right lateral flexion, and left lateral flexion. To measure the reliability of intra-rater and inter-rater reliability, the same examiner performed two measurements and the other examiner performed once, total measurement were performed three times. The order of tests was randomized and two examiners didn't know the results of measurements. Results : Thirty healthy adults were participated. The result of this study shows that there were are no significant differences in all movements except the right lateral flexion in comparison of average angle of smart phone application and goniometer. The intra-rater reliability of smart phone application and goniometer showed ICC as .841~.958 and the inter-rater reliability showed ICC as .720~.944 for all movements. Conclusion : These results suggest that smart phone application and goniometer have proven to be reliable in measuring the cervical range of motion. Smart phone application can be used as a useful tool in clinical setting due to fast and accurate measurements of cervical range of motion.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of different sitting postures on range of motion, strength and proprioceptive sense of neck. Fifteen healthy university students participated in the study. Depending on upright sitting position and slump sitting position, range of motion and joint position sense were measured by using Dualer IQ. Also, the maximum isometric strength and force sense were measured by using linear force. As a result, we found that the maximum angle of neck extension and the maximum isometric strength at flexion were significantly higher in upright posture than in slump posture. Also, the maximum angle of neck flexion and the maximum isometric strength at extension were higher in slump posture than in upright posture. According to the result, proper proprioception can have an beneficial effect on postural revision of neck and body by providing the information that cognize the position of head through and sustain upright posture.

Background: this study examined the Chiropractic therpy's influences on range of motions and pains with patients who have neck pain. Methods: In an experimental study with a two-group(chronic neck pain vs acute neck pain) design, 16 participants were enrolled for 2 weeks, 4 times, from march to april, 2013, with 8 acute neck pain patients and 8 chronic neck pain patients in chiropractic threrapy. Results: after the chiropractic threrapy, range of motions improved and pains were reduced significantly in both acute and chronic neck pain patients(P<.05). Conclusion: the chiropractic threrapy was effective in improving range of motions and reducing pains in persons who have acute and chronic neck pain. Thus, the chiropractic threrapy could be a resource for continuing study and adaptations to enhance the quality of life and well-being of neck pain patients.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of deep neck flexion exercise(DNFE) and thoracic range of motion exerecise(TROM) on the pain and forward head position(FHP) in stroke patients. Thirty-six patients were randomly assigned to DNFE group, TROM group, and control group. pre and post intervention, pain(VAS), Craniovertebral angle(CVA), cranial rotation angle(CRA), FHP, and TROM were measured. As a result. The DNFE group and the TROM group showed significant differences in VAS, CVA, CRA, FHP, and TROM pre and post intervention(p <.05), and the two groups showed VAS, CVA, CRA, FHP, and TROM compared to the control group (p <.05). In conclusion, in patients with stroke, DNFE and TROM were effective in restoring FHP and neck pain. We hope that they will be used in the interventional program for stroke patients in clinical practice.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of cervical and thoracic joint mobilization on cervical pain, cervical range of motion(ROM) and balance in adults with forward neck posture. A total 26 subjects were divided into a cervical joint mobilization group(CMG, n=13) and a thoracic joint mobilization group(TMG, n=13). performed joint mobilization three times per week for four weeks. As for changes in pain and ROM, statistically significant decrease were founded within group comparison(p<.05). In changes of static balance within group comparison, the CMG showed statically significant improvement in right foot on eyes closed(p<.05), while there were no significant changes in the TMG(p<.05). There were no significant differences were observed between group comparison(p<.05). In changes of dynamic balance within group comparison, the CMG and TMG were showed statistically significant improvement(p<.05). Non-specific chronic neck pain (CNP) is a prevalent disorder and often accompany with pain, fatigue, reduced range of motion (ROM), and hand function. Although various types of drug are commonly used to manage the symptoms following CNP, there is a need for therapeutic exercise and alternative medicine interventions that have few side effects or are easy to apply. Present study investigated the effects of salt pack and neck exercise for life care of the elderly with non-specific CNP. Sixteen patients with non-specific CNP were recruited and randomly assigned into two groups: the intervention group (n=8) or the control group (n=8). All patients performed neck self-exercise for 30 min/day, 5 times a week for 1 week. And the subjects in the intervention group additionally received salt hot pack for 20 min per session. Visual analogue scale (VAS) and pain pressure threshold (PPT) using algometer were used to assess pain intensity (primary outcome). ROM of shoulder joint and grip strength were measured to test shoulder and hand function (secondary outcome). There were significant improvements in the intervention group (p<.05), while the subjects in the control group did not show a significant change after intervention (p>.05). Also, the intervention group show significant differences in VAS and PPT compared to the control group (p<.05). Thus, our results demonstrated that salt pack and neck exercise have a positive effect for life care in elderly patients with non-specific CNP.
