A Review of Proximity Assessment Measurements According to Fairway Patterns and Ship Size (항로형태 및 선박크기에 따른 근접도 평가기법에 관한 고찰)

  • An acceptable proximity assessment collision probability is widely considered to be less than $10^{-4}$ in maritime traffic safety audit schemes. In the 1970s, Fujii, Macduff and colleagues introduced various models for collision probability of aberrancy in the community. Although existing studies ensured acceptable proximity collision probability, around $10^{-4}$, they were constrained by assumptions. A lack of support for the proximity probability criterion has been investigated in this study for practical use. The appropriate proximity probability for different size vessels in both straight and curved lanes has been analyzed based on GICOMS data. As a result, reasonable proximity collision probabilities were determined for various vessel traffic conditions. Accordingly, necessary improvements in the maritime traffic system have been suggested in consideration for various maritime traffic situations and conditions.

A Basic Study on the Demand Analysis of Waiting Anchorage using Anchorage Capacity Index (정박지 용량지수를 활용한 대기정박지 수요 분석에 대한 기초 연구)

  • This study proposes a methodology for estimating the appropriate capacity of anchorage for ports requiring the establishment of waiting anchorage and then applying the methodology to the ports in Jinhae Bay to compare it with the anchorage capacity of major ports in Korea. To estimate the appropriate anchorage capacity, the "Anchorage Capacity Index" was used, which was calculated from the "Total Gross Tonnage" and "Simultaneous Anchoring Capacity". The calculations were made according to the anchorage capacity index of 0.89 of the target harbors. The adequate anchorage capacity index for the new waiting anchorage was analyzed at a level of 6.0. If the concept of anchorage capacity index suggested in this study is reflected as a new design criteria of waiting anchorage, it will be helpful for the safety of berth, safety of anchorage and effective operation of harbor.

Development of Guide and Facility Management App by using Augmented Reality and QR Code (증강 현실과 QR 코드를 이용한 안내 및 설비 관리 앱 개발)

  • An app based on the augmented reality and QR codes is developed in this paper. This app is for guidance to the harbor and management the facilities in ships. Using the smart device app people could receive guidance the course to visit Mokpo harbor and information for the port and ship's facilities. Through the utilization of smart devices, the app is easy to find the desired destination to and provide the convenience of tourists. In addition, by using the QR code people could see an explanation of the ship's facilities and write the inspection reports for the facilities.

  • The change of water level at Mokpo Harbour and its adjacent coastal area due to the construction of the Youngsan Estuary Barrage and the Third Land Reclamation Work of estuary barren had been roughly expected. Periodical floods, which occur 2 times per month, are also being observed at the low lying commercial areas near the Mokpo Old Harbor. Although it is said that the highest tidal current component among the tidal current records at the approaching channel to Mokpo Harbor is reduced to 6 kts, because of the esturary barrage, they do not give any precise statement or a deep analysis for the flooding and periodical water level change under certain environmental conditions. Moreover, they never tried the analysis of development plan considering the natural disaster such as typhoon or other extreme conditions. Thus, it is necessary to collect and analyze the data related to floodings, harbor oscillations, currents, and water quality , etc. because of the development considering the extreme condition. This study deals the problem of the water level change among the integrated analyses of the coastal area changes.   • Due to the development of Yongsan river estuary weir and Yongam-Kumho sea dike, Mokop coastal area is changed. Especially, Discharged water through Yongsan river estuary weir and Yongam-Kumho sea dike, may cause the environmental influences such as the changes of currents pattern and sedimentation in the vicinity of semi-closed Mokpo harbor. This study deals with the collection and analysis of discharge through estuary weir and sea dike, based on that, we analyzed a characteristics of a sea area from simulation. As the results of this study, it is known that discharge causes the changes of a tidal currents pattern and calculated depth variations showed close relation with tidal circulation.

Variations in Marine Environments and Phytoplankton Community around Mokpo Harbour (목포항 주변해역의 수질 및 식물플랑크톤 변동 특성)

  • This study was carried out to determine marine environments and phytoplankton community around Mokpo harbour on March to November during the period of 2004-2009. The remarkable fluctuations of marine environments were shown around Mokpo harbour depending on monthly and yearly. Among seasons, summer was a great that was associated with extremely releasing the freshwater from Youngsan River Weir, contributing to effect the fluctuations of water quality. Nevertheless of monthly and yearly, the molecular ratio of N:P was always shown in above 16 that was mainly attributed to freshwater discharge on March to November. This indicates that phosphorus playes an important role in limiting factor as growth in phytoplankton. During this study, Skeletonema costatum was found to be richer than the other groups of diatoms in terms of abundance and species number. Mokpo harbour, with the presence of a narrow avenue for exchange with offshore waters, has limited growth in phytoplankton, but this species is able to well adapt and fast grow under even high level of suspended solid and low intensity of light compared with other species. The discharge of freshwater is associated with significantly fluctuation of marine environments in this region, but it does not affect the quantitative and qualitative distribution of phytoplankton. It is necessary to persistently monitor based on water quality and phytoplankton community.

Effect of a Barrier on Tides in the Youngsan Estuary (영산강하구(榮山江河口)의 방조제건설(防潮堤建設) 조위변화(潮位變化))

  • This study represents results of analysis of sea level record at Mokpo for the years 1956~1982. The results are believed to be the first detailed analysis for the Port of Mokpo. The tidal constants are obtained from separate yearly extended harmonic analysis. The variability of these yearly analysis gives estimates of effects on astronomical tide due to Youngsan Barrier. Multiple statistics of sea level record for the years 1965~1980 and 1981~1982 are presented separately to evaluate the distribution of sea level frequency due to the construction of Barrier. Some of preliminary results are presented and indication of further studies are discussed.

  • It is essential for port planning, coastal zone management and environmental impact study to analyze the variation of current and water quality due to the development of water area and discharged water from estuary barrage and basin etc. Mokpo sea area downstreams from a long river and two large basins, the Yongsan river and Yongam-Kumho basins discharging much of water through water gates for the purpose of flood control and prohibition of salt intrusion to the inland fresh water area. In this study, the numerical calculations were carried out for the analysis of diffusion characteristics due to discharging operation, adapting the results of tidal current simulation ADI methord is applied to the governing equation for the movement of sea water and diffusion and 6-point method to the advection terms of diffusion equation. As the results of this study, it is known that the discharging operation causes increasing and/or decreasing of current velocity and enlarging and/or depressing of pollutant diffusion limits depending on the distance from the discharging gates and the mode of discharging operation. To utilize these result, the linked gate operation and the method increasing exchange of sea water must be considered.

  • This study aims to present about structural marina floats to yacht enhancement. Yacht marina facilities take long time and huge budget. The current ministry of land, transport and maritime affairs is planning to select an optimal design and spot for marina float base to yacht enhancement using Mokpo harbor. First, this paper focuses on marine floatation system to find requirements of selection. Second it points out sample structural marina floats in practice. Finally, this paper presents some recommendations for developing plan and method.
