This research analyzes the current status of personal name authority control and its impact on the end user searching against OPACs in public libraries in Korea. Further it also suggests the ways to improve the recall ratio in author search with a minimal modification, system-wise and authority-wise. on the KOLISNET as a stepping stone for other public libraries. Finally, a long-term plan for establishing proper authority work in public libraries including the National Library of Korea is briefly proposed. In order to find out whether authority works are conducted and examine how variant written forms of the same foreign name and variant names of the same person are treated, OPACS of the National Library of Korea, KOLISNET, and ten randomly selected public libraries were searched. Findings indicate that while the National Library of Korea was performing authority control, even incomplete, the rest did not appear to conduct any form or authority control. As a spinoff of the research, it is observed that in many public libraries their bibliographic records and retrieval methods are inaccurate, lacking consistency, and incomplete. In sum. it is strongly recommended that (1) as a start for authority work among public libraries personal name authority control should be conducted to enhance the identifying and collocating functions in OPACs, (2) a shared authority database, for which the National Library of Korea's authority database might be used. should be built for Public libraries.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accessibility of the Cakewalk SI-Drum for the screen reader users. An evaluation was performed by testing the accessibility of the [Virtual Instrument Editing] that is a part of MIDI Production of the NCS(National Competency Standards) by using the SI-Drum and the Sense Reader. The results of this study are as follows. The SI-Drum has almost no basic accessibility for the screen users to do an above task. But the screen reader users can perform the tasks by using Sense Reader's Mouse Pointer function and Position Memory function. To use SI-Drum more efficiently, SI-Drum's basic accessibility have to be provided fully. Several suggestions are proposed to develop a fully accessible SI-Drum for the screen users.

In this paper, we present design philosophy and implementation issues of a functionality testing tool for object-oriented database systems. A testing tool has been developed to validate UniSQL/X functionalities with C++ interface. A testing tool is designed under consideration of scaleability, simplicity and extendibility. The schema is deliberately constructed to verify the object-oriented functionalities such as abstraction, inheritance and aggregation. Each test item has been derived under various black box techniques such as equivalent partitioning and boundary-value analysis. The testing tool consists of six phases, namely, database creation, database population, construction of testindex, compilation and link, execution and result reporting, and final cleanup. The prototype provides more than 140 test items at 90 programs.

Recently, the development of Maritime Service Portfolios (MSPs) for the safe navigation of ship has been discussed internationally. For the successful service of the MSPs, first of all, studies for the standardization about the structure and data structure of MSPs should be preceded. Also, it is necessary to evaluate and assess whether the services are effective for safe navigation, and provided data and portrayal methods are proper. However, because great dangers will be accompanied when untested MSPs about their effectiveness and safety are applied in real ship navigation, it is necessary that effectiveness and safety of the MSPs should be proven under various navigational conditions and environments by simulation. In this paper, we propose a 3D navigation simulation system using desktop PC environment, which is proper for evaluating the effectiveness of MSPs. The system consists of three modules which are simulation scenario editor, 3D visualization of navigational environment and 2D navigational equipment. The scenario editor module provides an environment setting for simulation, such as properties, routes and positions of vessels and aids to navigations. It also provides functions to create a scenario for the simulation to operate. Additionally, the 3D visualization module provides 3D navigational environment which shows interplay between geographical and navigational environment based on the created scenario. The 2D navigational equipment module provides visualization functions of various navigational equipment, shows the interaction between ship's navigational equipment and ship's environment. The simulation scenario, in which various kinds of ships are routing in the port, is created by the developed simulation system, and experimented whether this developed system is appropriate to evaluate and assess the MSPs developed by the International Maritime Organization.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the integrated search services for integrated libraries operated by local governments in Korea. The target of analysis was integrated libraries operated by 25 local governments in Seoul, and the analysis elements were selected from service functions in 12 areas related to integrated search. The results of the study are as follows. First, the integrated library is an association of public libraries and small libraries in autonomous districts and provides integrated search services. The provided integrated search service function, types of bibliographic information, and facets are not diverse. Second, the records in the search results were mostly item types, not title types. Third, enrichment information supplementing book information consists of book introductions, related information, book-related keywords, and loan-related information. Fourth, integrated search shows the form of integrated OPAC based on integrated catalog DB rather than discovery-type search. It concentrates on providing an integrated search for catalog DBs distributed in public libraries or small libraries in the autonomous district. Fifth, most integrated libraries provide similar service types. Based on these results, improvement plans were proposed for domestic public libraries to expect discovery-type integrated search services.

This study aims to evaluate KOLIS-NET system by usefulness testing of 'KOLIS-NET client integrated system' and by usability testing of 'KOLIS-NET web site'. For evaluating the usefulness of the system, we used searching, ease of use, customer support as criteria, and used brainstorming and in-depth interview as evaluation method. On the other hand, for usability testing of the web site, we used cognitive walkthrough. Evaluation results are categorized and represented as page redesign, term consistency, function improvement and new functionality.

The purpose of the paper is to review the key factors of automation and information technology which have generally had the first and the most impact on traditional cataloging department and catalogers. Additioansl qualities and skills which the catalogers in this environment will need are indentified. The review is done through the examination of research reports and results of numerous library surveys. The overall climate of change is toward a process of conver gent evolution between catalogers and public service librarians. The heads of technical services departments and several catalogers in eight Korean academic libraries including National Central Library are interviewed to find out the present development of automation and any effect on cataloging staff in terms of work and organizational structure. It is too early to have any such changing impact as the automation is still in its implementing stage. However, they see the future when professional catalogers are expected to serve in much extended role as the automation stages are moving ahead.

The purpose of this paper is to plan and implement e-storytelling for improving children's creativity, which consists of e-storytelling, thinking questions, and character sticker canvas. Especially It makes children draw paintings feel easier by character sticker. This webapp shows the flash animation e-storytelling and gives the question to answer by painting with a fertile imagination on the canvas as transforming the character sticker. A user can input the title of painting and store it when finish the drawing. This is an educational tool which makes educatees think more and express their ideas through questions. Therefore, we can check how much children's imagination is changed and diversed by the stored paintings.

코퍼스는 기계 가독형으로 개장되어 있는 실제 사용 언어의 집합으로 자연어 처리에 필요한 여러 가지 언어 정보를 내재하고 있다. 이들 정보는 코퍼스 분석기를 이용하여 획득할 수 있으며 용례와 각종 통계 정보 및 확률 정보, 연어 목록 등은 코퍼스에서 추출할 수 있는 대표적인 언어 정보들이다. 그러나 기존의 한국어 코퍼스 분석 도구들은 용례 추출 기능만을 보유하여 활용 범위가 제한되어 있었다. 이에 본 논문에서는 대량의 한국어 코퍼스를 분석하여 용례뿐만 아니라 자연어 처리의 제분야에서 필요한 언어 정보들을 추출하는 방법에 대해 연구하였으며 이의 검증을 위해 KCAT(Korean Corpus Analysis Tool)를 구현하였다. KCAT는 코퍼스 색인, 용례 추출, 통계 정보 추출, 연어 추출 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 용례 색인을 위해서는 여러 가지 사전과 용례 색인 구조가 필요한데 KCAT에서는 가변 차수 B-Tree 구조를 이용하여 사전을 구성하며 용례 색인을 위해 버킷 단위의 역 화일 구조를 이용한다. 질 좋은 용례의 추출을 위해 KCAT는 다양한 용례 연산 및 정렬 기능을 제공한다. 또한 통계적 방법의 자연어 처리 분야를 위해 어휘 확률, 상태 전이 확률, 관측 심볼 확률, 상호 정보, T-score 등을 제공하며, 기계 번역 분야에서 필요한 연어를 추출한다.

OPAC is a very important interface for user to use and search library collection and electronic resources. The purpose of this study is to analyze empirically the impact of OPAC usability on user satisfaction and loyalty in an university library setting. The OPAC functions investigated are keyword searching, integrated searching, faceted navigation, relevance ranking, spelling check, recommendations, user participation, and Really Simple Syndication(RSS), etc. This study investigated what usability effects on user satisfaction and loyalty and suggested the way to improve user satisfaction and loyalty.
